Pretty crazy draft with the Lions picking another WR (although a great on in Calvin Johnson) and Brady Quinn free falling with Cleveland picking him up in the late first round (sucks for him that he lost millions of dollars and ended up with the same team that was debating on taking him 3rd- but instead got him 22nd).

Falcons ended up with a solid first round pick of DE Jamal Anderson of Arkansas which fills a need left by Patrick Kerney. He was the best available talent here that filled a need so IMO it was a very good pick. Would have liked to have LeRon Landry, or Gaines Adams but they were gone.

Falcons picked Justin Blalock (OL from Texas) with their first pick of the second round. Great pick as he should be able to step in and play as a rookie.

Third pick (also a second rounder) was Chris Houston (CB from Arkansas). Seems like a solid pick. Wonder if this means that Jimmy Williams moves to safety or if he battles Williams for the number 2 CB spot alongside DHall.

Fourth pick (3rd rounder) was Laurent Robinson from Illinois State and Roddy White pops into my head. I have no idea how this is going to pan out but there have been some great WRs to come from smaller schools (TO, Rice). He apparently compares to Laverenus Coles.

I'm surprised that we didn't get Sydney Rice or Dwayne Jarrett instead of Houston in the second round but hopefully they know something about Houston and Robinson that I don't.

I know I would've rather had the combo of Brady Quinn and either Sidney Rice or Dwayne Jarrett instead of the combo of Ted Ginn Jr. and John Beck. The Dolphins prove once again why they've sucked the past few years, because they can't draft anyone worth a crap. They haven't been able to draft since the Jimmy Johnson days of getting great late round draft picks in Zach Thomas and Jason Taylor. Even Jimmy Johnson though had a bunch of bad picks. He did better drafting in the later rounds than with 1st round draft picks.

As for the Falcons, I think they did a good job with their draft. I think the Vikings had one of the best drafts (Bengals did pretty well too on their top half). I thought the Titans had a terrible draft, and I'm sure they're gonna realize in a few years that their new GM isn't any better than Floyd Reese. Michael Griffin is a fine 1st rounder but Chris Henry as their #2 pick is pathetic! This guy averaged 3.3 yds per carry for Arizona (total of only 500+ yards last season) in the freakin' Pac-10. They pretty much implied that they picked him because of his 40 time being the best among running backs. Wow, never realized a 40 time meant more than how you performed on the field. I see a total bust in the making there (although I don't believe this guy even deserves the "bust" label no matter how bad he performs considering he hasn't done crap in his career to begin with).

The more I think about the Falcons draft the more I like it. They got 3 guys that potentially could start for them next year in DE Anderson, CB Houston and OL Blalock. They also picked up some guys in the later rounds which IMO will make the team in CB David Irons (he's a scrappy competitor. Any SEC fan knows that this guy has talent). They also picked up the #2 rated C in the draft in Ohio State OL Doug Datish who can play mulitple line positions. They picked Martrez Milner of Georgia in the 4th round and even though he has iffy hands he is an outstanding blocker and will help with the run game.

The wild cards are the 3rd round pick in WR Laurent Robinson and 4th Round pick OLB Stephen Nicholas (especially with Demarrio Williams getting injured). I have also heard from more than one source that S Daren Stone has the ability to be a steal.

I think overall that we did get any "sexy" picks but we did a good job filling needs on the team with guys that will have the ability to make the team and make an impact this year.
