These were my first Puro shows ever. I'll review both of them in this thread. El Number Uno PPV 2003 first:
Toryumon El Numero 2003 PPV
Advanced Warning: I will probably get some of these names wrong.
Dragon Scramble Battle Royal - VERY fun battle royal. Dragon Kid did some impressive hurricanranas in the beginning of the match. Some stand out funny moments of the match were when everyone was chopping Fuji, and he doesn’t move. Then he chops everyone in the ring and the crowd goes nuts. Pretty funny. Another funny moment was when everyone was encouraging Araken to go after Owashi(the big fat guy), and somebody roles Araken up from behind and everyone jumps on him. Fun match, can’t really rate battle royals though.
SUWA vs. YOSSINO - Solid match here. Some great submissions by YOSSINO and some nice powere moves by SUWA. The submission YOSSINO used to finish off SUWA was awesome. Short, but fun match. **1/4
CIMA vs. Yokosuka - Very good match. CIMA had some very cool moves, and Yokosuka did a good job of working on CIMA’s neck after he hurt it early on. Fun match, both guys were impressive. The last 2 or so minutes were awesome. ***
Masaaki Mochizuki vs. Millano Collection AT - Mochizuki rode a scooter to the ring, which was funny as hell. Some nice mat work to start the match. AT has a lot of simply awesome submissions. He ties up Mochizuki to the ropes at one point which was cool. Some very nice exchanges towards the end. The ending sucked, but the match itself was good. ***
Magnum TOKYO vs. Genki Horiguchi - Fun, although very short match. Magnum hit some nice power moves, but at the same time showed that he could fly as well. Genki gets some HAGE chants. Genki wins with the BACKSLIDE FROM HEAVEN! *¾<br><br>Stalker Ichikawa vs. Yoshihiro Takayama - Pure comedy match. Funny match, but can’t really rate it.
CIMA vs. YOSSINO - FUN match. Short, around 4 minutes, but the action never stops. CIMA and YOSSINO have both impressed me a lot so far on this show. YOSSINO works on CIMA’s neck for a little bit(which was worked on in CIMA’s first match). He then goes for his arm to set him up for his submission finisher whcih CIMA reverses into a rollup, but only gets 2. He then hits the Air Raid Crash for the win. Fun match. ***1/4
Masaaki Mochizuki vs. Genki Horiguchi - Genki starts out with a nice flip dive to the floor on Mochizuki. He then hits 3 missile drop kicks and a moonsault on Mochizuki. Mochizuki has a ton of simply awesome kicks in this match. Genki moves on with the BACKSLIDE FROM HEAVEN! Short, but fun match. **3/4
Dragon Kid, Araken, Second Doi, Anthony, and Ultimo Dragon vs. YASSINI, Shuji, Saito, Fuji, and TARU - This was AWESOME. Incredible action through the whole match. I can’t even remember all the stuff that was in this match. Super fun match, match of the night so far. ***½ simply for the fun factor of the match.
CIMA vs. Genki Horiguchi - HOLY. CRAP. This was INCREDIBLE. I’m at a loss of words. I can’t really say anything except, BUY THIS TAPE NOW SIMPLY FOR THIS MATCH! ****½. I am probably over-rating this, but I was simply blown away by it. Great match.
Questions:
1. Why was the Great Sasuke there, and what was the interaction beween him and Ultimo all about?
2. Why was Takayama there, and what belt was he wearing?
3. Who was the midget who did the Tope Con Hilo in the 10 man tag?
Notes to self:
1. Learn Japanese.
2. My star ratings are crazy.
3. Buy more Toryumon.
Verdict: This tape was definitely worth the ten bucks. The main event alone was worth 20. The 10 Man tag was incredibly fun. The battle royal to start off the show was fun. The 4 quarter final matches were all solid. The 2 semi final matches were good. This was a GREAT show. I recommend it to anyone. I will definitely be buying some more Toryumon when I get the chance.
I will review NOAH 9/12 later after I watch it.
