I just rented this movie today and i cant say that it changed my political views. Because i already am anti the war, anti-bush administration and for the safe return of our troops. So the movie really spoke to my side of the story. It presented the information in a VERY biased way, but the facts presented were pretty startling to say the least.
My favorite part of the dvd wasnt part of the theatrical release, it was an extra about Arab-American stand up comedians. There comedy and sense of humour about the whole issue of discrimination against them is hillarious
So anyone hate this movie who has seen it? hate it who HASNT seen it? Hate Micheal Moore? (i am NOT a fan of his, just wanted to see the movie based on the fact it spoke to my political views) Anyone shocked by the movie? Offended? Confused? I just want to get some discussion (hopefully friendly) about the issues it presented

I'm very anti-Bush so the movie didn't really change any opinions of mine, but it did give a lot of information I didn't previously know. I guess I'm easy bait for a movie like that seeing as half of the time I went into a deep depression that people actually voted for Bush and the other half of the time I wanted to get out of my seat and punch the damn screen. My favorite part was when they were in front of the Saudi embassy and the police showed up.

Check out bowlingfortruth.com for some of the info on how he slants the truth. This site also has some info on the 9/11 movie. In conclusion, I did not watch 9/11 because I knew what I would get. And that's a movie not a documentary.

YUP! I agree with Kev's post totally. Bowling was really persuasive partisan film-making under the guise of being unbiased. The whole bank scene where he opened up a savings account and walked out with a gun was extremely mis-leading. And the Charleton Heston segment was totally in poor taste. I have no doubt that 9/11 is more of the same. Because the movie is a *cough* "documentary", all of the proceeds are going to him. Not the troops in Iraq, not the families and victims of 9/11, right into the pocket of Michael Moore. Everything I've heard about this movie makes it seem like I'd hate it, so why bother giving him the time of day to watch it? So I can be informed of the truth that THEY DON'T WANT YOU TO KNOW>!>!?! Gimmie a break. In a related note, my neighbor is extremely anti-Bush. He's an elderly fellow... nice enough guy, and a WW2 vet to boot. So yesterday I come home from registering to vote, which I had put off for way too long. Now I registered as an independent since I don't want to get tons of junk mail (or perhaps I'll get twice as much), but I'm dead set on riding the Bush/Cheney ticket this year, and he was aware of this. Anyway, I come home and mention where I had just come from and he goes on this tirade of how everyone he knows is voting for Kerry and how I should. Then he says (as a shoot, I think) that I should stay home on November 2nd. Now, logically, my vote is useless since Kerry is going to win DE anyway (the state traditionally votes Democrat), giving him all of its THREE electoral votes. I was a bit urked by this, and he did later grudgingly apologize, but this country is so divided right now that it's ridiculous. Hell, my dad is vehemently anti-Bush with no logical reason and he can't even vote (he's still a British citizen despite living here for 40 some odd years)! Maybe it's because he reads the New York TImes. Darn, going off on a tangent... So, yeah. Uh. What was I talking about? Um... oh yeah, F Michael Moore, and GO NADER!!! ;D

Fahrenheit 9/11 is pretty much preaching to the choir. People who support Fahrenheit 9/11 most likely use the movie as a rallying point in their shared anti-Bush sentiment. I liked both Bowling for Columbine and Fahrenheit 9/11. I do not support Bush, but I believe people should view movies, TV, books, video games, etc. critically.
Yes, Michael Moore's films are partisan, but pretty much every documentary is. It's very difficult to present any objective truth in a 120 min. movie (like reality TV, we the audience must recognize that several post-production steps were taken to draw the audience into a certain kind of thinking). A documentary director is presenting an argument through creative editing, interviews, and such in hopes of persuading the audience. They are sort of video essays. Nature documentaries, for example, will use, on purpose, certain kinds of music or statistics to make people feel sorry for endangered animals--but the audience doesn't HAVE to care. Beyond the Mat is a documentary, but some people in the audience probably never bought Blaustein's argument that we should respect wrestlers as normal people (these people would probably call wrestlers fakers or quacks). These films all fall under the category of "documentary," but we don't necessarily have to agree with its message.
I find that most people who blast Fahrenheit 9/11 dislike the concept or are Bush supporters to begin with. And that's their opinion, but I wish people would see that is indeed a documentary and that is a reason why it sold so well. It's not just because it's controversial or the audience was brainwashed into Michael Moore's kind of reasoning--some people in the United States (and a lot of foreign countries--it did well in Japan) seriously believe in its cause. They are against Bush for real reasons.

I think Kev and Kaid should see this movie, just to give an opinon. I have REAL strong opinons on Gun Control as my best friend was murdered by an excon who got a gun from the government, so im sure i would like Bowling, but i havent gone out of my way to see it because im really not intrested in learning something i know first hand
The movie is TOTALLY one sided, which is what i really DIDNT like, but the stories of the soldiers from IRAQ who are against the occupation and the drama of wathcing a mother go through the loss of her son in War are what make this movie worth watching. The constant anti-bush stuff is annoying, but some of the Bush-Bin Laden family conenctions presented (which are true and real, no fabrication there) are slightly startling. All and all i think its silly for someone to NOT watch something and form an opinon on it. Watch it, then hate it and no one will blame you.

I did see Bowling for Columbine, but was kinda turned off by it which makes me hesitant to watch 9/11. However, I agree that I shouldn't bash the movie if I haven't seen it.

I've seen all of Moore's documentaries and enjoyed each of them. As long as people realize it's not the news (fair and balanced), then all's well.
There's a movie out that is supposed to "debunk" Moore's views. I'm planning on watching it soon. I also took the time to search through Google and find a few sites that "revealed" the lies in Fahrenheit 911. Now I have to decide if THEY are telling the truth...

One of the major things that turned me off about "Bowling" was that it just seemed like a vehicle to put himself over. Every single scene had him showing (from his point of view) how much smarter he was then everyone else he was interviewing. I don't have very strong political beliefs but when someone is blatently pulling the wool over your eyes (like Moore did with this film) it is very insulting.
