I don't know how many of you caught Edgar Martinez's retirement ceremony or at least the recaps, but it was the coolest thing I had ever seen in the history of professional sports. Bud Selig was there and not only gave his approval that Edgar should be in the Hall of Fame, but from now on the designated hitter award shall be known as the Edgar Martinez award. He also got a street nammed after him in front of Safeco Field, $100,000 donated to the Childrens Hospital in his and his wife's name, $12,000 donated to another charity, a seat from the King Dome as well as Safeco, a painting, a few other misc items, but most importantly he got a baseball bat lamp.
The funniest part of the night was before the game Selig came out to officially recognize Ichiro's breaking of Sissler's all time hit record to mostly boos, then he totally redeemed himself by the naming of the Edgar Martinez award. The Ichiro ceremony was cool too. Sissler's family handed him an autographed St. Louis Browns hat as well as a 44oz Louisville Slugger.
