This may be the best player in College Football right now. Barely started any games in his career and came out of nowhere, and now it seems like he can't be touched. He is CF's answer to Peyton Manning, and with this past weeks performance (340 and 4 TD's) he now has 18 TD's and NO PICKS on the year.
Is he taking the heisman, or is in going to someone else this year? (please Nobody say Jason White, he sucks) I think Breylon Edwards and Cedric Benson have a shot (as does Adrian Peterson) but right now early on we're in Ortons world.
Thoughts?

Orton has been incredible so far. He is definitely the frontrunner. However, you must admit that Purdue has played NO ONE of any substance so far. So he has put these numbers up against Syracuse, Ball St, Illinois and Notre Dame. It will be interesting to see how he fares against the better Big 10 teams (Wisconsin, Michingan, Ohio St). That being said the Big 10 looks pretty bad this year so it's definitely a chance for Orton to put up some HUGE numbers and walk away with the heisman without really playing any above average competition.
Based on stats you also have guys like Matt Leinhart, Cedric Benson, Cadillac Williams and Adrian Peterson who are still in strong contention for the trophy.
Personally, from a totally selfish hometeam perspective I would LOVE to see David Pollack of Georgia at least get in the Top 10 in voting. He is this generations Herschel Walker for Georgia fans. He is the sparkplug that makes the defense go and affects every play in some way. Unfortunately he doesn't play a "sexy" position for Heisman hopefuls so thus is not even considered. BUT if the Heisman is supposed to go to the BEST player in College Football then Pollack should no doubt be in the Top 10 if not the Top 5.

Pollack is awesome but won't take it. I think Greene is pretty kickass though. I'm betting on Orton now just because of the weaker conference and the stats so far, but Tennessee is trying to get Benson over the rushing record so he's playing every minute of every game, so he may take it as well.

Well, Orton was proven stoppable six weeks ago, as he had about 3 average/below games after I posted that. I still think he's not just a "system guy" as he came off an injury last week and put on the best QB performance in all of college football this year:
31-55 for 522 yds and 6 TD's, no pics
Thats pretty close at least. What an awesome game from a down to earth seeming guy.
