College Football is basically life in the south so let's take a look at who Cbs.sportsline.com has as potential Heisman candidates for this year:
Brian Brohm, QB
School: Louisville
Class: Junior
Ht: 6-4 Wt: 224
Comment: The only thing that can stop this Cardinals legacy is a repaired ACL and another shaky Louisville defense. Hey, we're tired of the Louisville woulda, coulda, shoulda. Time to get to a BCS bowl.
Michael Bush, RB
School: Louisville
Class: Senior
Ht: 6-3 Wt: 250
Comment: Good call not going to the NFL. Bush would have been only a mid-rounder despite 24 touchdowns last year. With a 6-3, 250-pound frame he can turn the corner and hit you in the mouth.
Jamaal Charles, RB
School: Texas
Class: Sophomore
Ht: 6-1 Wt: 190
Comment: The Big 12 offensive freshman of the year shared time at tailback and still ran for 878 yards and 11 touchdowns. He won't be overshadowed by Vince Young this year, he'll be the man.
Ted Ginn Jr., WR
School: Ohio State
Class: Junior
Ht: 6-0 Wt: 175
Comment: Running precise routes and becoming a leader. His 167 receiving yards against Notre Dame in the Fiesta were more than a quarter of his season total coming into the game.
Kenny Irons, RB
School: Auburn
Class: Senior
Ht: 5-11 Wt: 202
Comment: This South Carolina transfer eased the loss of Ronnie Brown and Cadillac Williams. Irons got 397 of his 1,293 rushing yards against the SEC championship combatants (LSU and Georgia).
Dwayne Jarrett, WR
School: Southern California
Class: Junior
Ht: 6-5 Wt: 200
Comment: To think this New Jersey product was so homesick he almost left campus as a freshman. With 29 career TD catches, Jarrett is within three of the Pac-10 record after two seasons.
Calvin Johnson, WR
School: Georgia Tech
Class: Junior
Ht: 6-4 Wt: 225
Comment: Circus catches? CJ is the circus. The Eastern Time Zone version of Jarrett. Incredible hands and 4.4 speed.
Chris Leak, QB
School: Florida
Class: Senior
Ht: 6-0 Wt: 212
Comment: Statistically, he's going to go down as one of the best ever at Florida and the SEC. But first he's got to keep Tim Tebow from taking the job.
Adrian Peterson, RB
School: Oklahoma
Class: Junior
Ht: 6-2 Wt: 211
Comment: Ready to resume another 2,000-yard chase after injury problems. Peterson has to hope the line is rebuilt sufficiently.
Jeff Samardzija, WR
School: Notre Dame
Class: Senior
Ht: 6-0 Wt: 175
Comment: What can't this guy do? All-American receiver, pitcher, trendsetter with his 'do. He broke out against Washington (164 yards on Sept. 24) against the coach who wouldn't play him.
Steve Slaton, RB
School: West Virginia
Class: Sophomore
Ht: 5-10 Wt: 185
Comment: With quarterback Patrick White, Slaton is one half of "The Jackrabbits." Slaton ran for 1,128 yards as a freshman.
Brady Quinn, QB
School: Notre Dame
Class: Senior
Ht: 6-4 Wt: 232
Comment: The only Notre Dame quarterback to surprass 400 yards in multiple games (five times). The only other quarterback on that list, Joe Theismann, did it once.
Troy Smith, QB
School: Ohio State
Class: Senior
Ht: 6-1 Wt: 215
Comment: Started the final five games of '05 (going 4-1). Left his Heisman calling card: 408 yards in total offense against ND in the Fiesta Bowl.
Garrett Wolfe, RB
School: Northern Illinois
Class: Senior
Ht: 5-7 Wt: 174
Comment: Nation's leading returning rusher (1,588). If the Huskies make a BCS run, Wolfe will get an invitation to New York.
