Seperation Saturday is over and some of the contenders have solidified their spot, with others rising to the occassion and some seperating themselves from the Top 10. My Top 5 stays the same as I felt that all of those teams deserved to hang onto their spot based on their performances. Rounding out the Top 10 is Michigan (moving up 6 spots due to their demolition of Notre Dame), Texas, Georgia, Virginia Tech and Louisville. A lot of the teams in the middle stayed the same despite losing to top tier opponents (Tennessee, Nebraska) or losing by very small margins on the road in questionable circumstances (Oklahoma). Rounding out the Top 25 was difficult because 2 teams fell out (Miami and Texas Tech) but no one really played well enough to get a spot in the Top 25. There are lots of teams that are ranked from 26 to 40 that could show up in the Top 25 pretty quickly if they put on a good performance against a quality opponent.
The biggest move of the week was Michigan due to their absolute demolition of Notre Dame. The question remains if Michigan is that good or Notre Dame is just that overrated. But take nothing away from Michigan as they won huge in a hostile environment. Clemson was also a top mover this week as they moved from 25 to 19 with their victory over FSU. One of the reasons they moved up was not necessarily that they played that well but that there were teams that lost in front of them. That being said, they would be Top 15 if they had a good special teams unit. Oregon moved up 4 spots with their controversial victory over Oklahoma.
After one of the biggest college football days in years this week looks very quiet on paper with only 2 match-ups between ranked teams (Ohio State/Penn State and Michigan St/Notre Dame) and honestly those don't look too appealing to me. There are some other interesting games out there (Cal/ASU and Wisconsin/Michigan) but nothing that is can't miss from where I sit.
