better late than never...
last weeks ranking in parenthesis
1. Indianapolis 3-0 (1)
Last Week: beat Jacksonville 21-14
Beat #3 Jacksonville in a tight one last week. They have a very favorable schedule coming up and Indianapolis could be on top for a while.
Next Game: Jacksonville (2-0)
2. Seattle 3-0 (2)
Last Game: Beat NY Giants 42-30
They stuck it to the Giants in the first half last week before holding on for a victory. They've got a really tough match-up with the Bears this week before a bye week that they need so Shaun Alexander can heel.
Next Game: @ Chicago (3-0)
3. Jacksonville 2-1 (3)
Last Week: lost to Jacksonville 21-14.
Lost a tight game to number 1 ranked Indianapolis so they maintain their spot as they've beaten 2 pretty good teams so far in Pittsburgh and Dallas
Next Game: @ Washington (1-2)
4. Cincinnati 3-0 (7)
Beat Pittsburgh 28-20
Beat defending Super Bowl champs Pittsburgh in impressive fashion to go 3-0. Carson Palmer looks like he's back and is attempting to provide leadership to this merry band of misfits.
Next Game: New England (2-1)
5. Chicago 3-0 (8)
Beat Minnesota 19-16
A win on the road against the only other good team in their division is like 2 wins. Huge game this week for Chicago against the defending NFC Champs Seattle.
Next Game: Seattle (3-0)
6. San Diego 2-0 (10)
So far they have dominated their weaker competition by a score of 67-7. Is trading for Billy Volek a sign that they don't trust Phillip Rivers or just insurance? They have a tough game this week against Baltimore so a lot of questions should be answered.
Next Game: @ Baltimore (3-0)
7. Baltimore 3-0 (5)
Last Week: Beat Cleveland 15-14
The Ravens remain a mystery as they have wins over win less Cleveland, Tampa and Oakland. We will find out a lot this week as they go against San Diego, who despite having a very young QB looks like solid team.
Next Game: San Diego 2-0
8. New Orleans 3-0 (-)
Last Week: Beat Atlanta 23-3
Is this team for real? They've beaten 2 of the worst teams in the NFL and won a game at home against the Falcons in maybe the most hyped home game in recent NFL history. Everything seemed to go their way and they played a great game. Can they keep this momentum of what had to be an emotional high? They've got Carolina and Philly in the next 3 and those games will tell us the truth.
Next: @ Carolina (1-2)
9. Denver 2-1 (-)
Last Game:
They won on the road at New England in a really pick-me up game for team going into the bye week.
Next Game: Oct 9th vs Baltimore (3-0)
10. Atlanta 2-0 (4)
Last Game: lost to New Orleans 23-3
Everything that could go wrong last week, went wrong. Blocked punt for a touchdown, dropped touchdown reception, blocked field goal, drive killing no-call on a blatant pass interference. All those things taken into consideration they got outplayed and out coached in the New Orleans homecoming hoopla game. I don't think the Saints are quite as good as they played and I don't think the Falcons are as bad as they looked on Monday night. The Falcons really need John Abraham and Patrick Kerney back at full strength but must first face Arizona this week before their bye. Even with those injuries (and the injury of MLB Ed Hartwell) the defense played good enough to win as they only gave up 16 points.
Next Game: Arizona 1-2
11. Minnesota 2-1 (11)
Last Game: lost to Chicago 19-16
They earn some brownie points for a tough loss. This team is still coming together and they have a couple of very winnable games coming up in Buffalo and Detroit before their schedule takes a turn for the tougher after the bye week (Seattle, and New England
Next Game: @ Buffalo (1-2)
