1. Indianapolis 5-0 (2)
Last Week: BYE
Coming off of a bye week the best regular season team in football should continue it's winning ways with a match-up against up and down Washington before an AFC showdown with Denver.
This Week: Washington (2-4)
2. Chicago 6-0 (1)
Last Week: Survived Arizona 24-23
They looked like world beaters for 2 weeks in a row. Last week they laid an offensive egg against a team who had lost 4 straight games and been dominated by Atlanta. The Bears defense proved that they are major league as they provided the offense for the team but the Bears simply can't win in the playoffs with an offense that is this inconsistent. Still, they have the luxury of having the easiest schedule in the history of the NFL so they should have the best record at the end of the regular season so someone will have to beat them on their home turf. Grossman is tied for second in the league (behind Charlie Frye) for most picks. Grossman needs to remember that his job (as Bears quarterback) is not to win ball games but not to lose them.
This Week: BYE
3. Denver 4-1 (3)
Last Week: beat Oakland 13-3
The defense continues to be dominate as they've only given up over 10 points once this year. After this week it gets a lot more serious as Indy and Pittsburgh are coming up on the schedule.
This Week: @ Cleveland (1-4)
4. New England 4-1 (4)
Last Week: BYE
Just win baby, that's what the Patriots seem to do week in and week out and year in and year out. They also have the benefit of playing in the weakest division in the AFC this year. They should coast to a division title.
This Week: @ Buffalo (2-4)
5. San Diego 4-1 (6)
Last Week: beat San Fransisco 48-19
They still have yet to get a big win against a quality opponent (other than Pittsburgh who was struggling at the time) but they've have looked solid and are riding out the easy part of their schedule. Their true tests lie ahead but the AFC West is not what it once was. Rivers is the second rated quarterback (behind McNabb), will he hold up in his first year as starter?
This Week: Kansas City (2-3)
6. Carolina 4-2 (10)
Last Week: beat Baltimore 23-21
They are 4-0 with MVP candidate Steve Smith in the line-up. They have a tough match-up this week with Cincy and then take on Dallas
This Week: @ Cincinnati (3-2)
7. New Orleans 5-1 (-)
Last Week: Beat Philadelphia 27-24
They seem to be for real as a legit playoff contender as they have already taken out Philly and Atlanta.
This Week: BYE
8. Jacksonville 3-2 (11)
Last Week: beat NY Jets 41-0
Showed a lot of heart 2 weeks ago in their 41-0 drubbing of the Jets as they could have laid down after losing two straight close games to Indianapolis and Washington.
This Week: BYE
9. Seattle 4-1 (-)
Last Week: beat St Louis 30-28
Right now their goal is to keep their head above water with MVP Shaun Alexander out serving his Madden cover suspension. Their only loss is to the top team in the NFC so they should set their sights right now at staying on top of their division and making a run for the conference when Madden releases Alexander to play again.
This Week: Minnesota (3-2)
10. Baltimore 4-2 (5)
Last Week: lost to Carolina (23-21)
Two straight losses 2 Denver and Carolina stings a bit. So does the injury to Steve McNair but supposedly he will be back after their bye week.
This Week: BYE
11. Philadelphia 4-2 (8)
Last Week: lost to New Orleans 27-24
Riding high off their big victory against rival Dallas proved costly as they got bit by New Orleans. Philly needs to keep their heads on straight if they want to contend for an NFC championship. They also need to get become more balanced if they expect to make it beyond the first round or two of the playoffs. Right now they are riding McNabb and his 1800+ yards of passing but he is going to be gassed come playoff time if this keeps up.
This Week: @ Tampa Bay (1-4)
