Eh....Both teams played like sh*t. Neither deserved to win but Vandy salvages a split. Georgia could be in trouble from here as they have a loss to Florida up next and after that they will be playing every game for their season.

We needed the split. Big win for us, as we need to hold serve at home. I thought this may be a higher scoring game, but it turned into more of a grind-it-out type game.

I don't think y'all are in that bad of shape to be playing every game like it's your season from here on out. What hurt both of us yesterday was Kentucky pulling out a win at Arkansas yesterday. Kentucky still has to play Florida twice and they have to play several more tough games where I think they won't win. If ppl are saying UT can get in at 7-9 in conference play, then y'all aren't in bad shape as far as the NCAA tourney goes right now.

Well Georgia just absolutely destroyed South Carolina at South Carolina tonight but Mike Mercer got hurt and it doesn't look good but I'm waiting to see what happens. Worst case scenario is that he is out for the year and Billy Humphrey and Terrence Woodbury are really gonna have to step up their game. This is the first time that Channing Toney's transfer might actually effect us this year. We've got a make-up game against Kennesaw St and then a home game versus Auburn coming up so those are 2 games that we have to put in the win column.

The knee gave way as he tried to stop. It was put in an inflatable cast and Mercer was wheeled off the floor to a standing ovation.

"His knee did come out of socket," Georgia coach Dennis Felton said. "They were able to slip it back in socket probably within about 90 seconds. But there's significant ligament damage and he's likely out for the year."

Ouch...that hurts for UGA's tourney hopes losing Mercer. We got destroyed by UT yesterday. I never saw that coming. We played like crap though, as we couldn't hit anything all game it seemed. Hopefully we can do the same thing to South Carolina this Wednesday as y'all did yesterday. I was pretty disappointed with Florida not blowing out UK yesterday. I still hope UK will end up having a bad 2nd half where they lose a lot of games. Hope the same for UT as well. ;D

Bulldogs’ Mercer Undergoes MRI Exam

ATHENS, Ga. --- Georgia basketball player Mike Mercer, who injured his right knee in the Bulldogs’ win at South Carolina last night, underwent a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) exam Sunday afternoon to determine the extent of his injury.

The results of Mercer’s MRI exam will be known by Monday afternoon.

Mercer injured his right knee with 9:47 left in Georgia’s 73-54 win over the Gamecocks in Columbia. He accompanied his teammates on their return trip to Athens after the game.

A sophomore from Snellville, Mercer was the team’s second-leading scorer (13.6 ppg) and assist man (3.3 per game) and its leader in minutes played (29.3 per game). He was the Bulldogs’ only player to have started in all 23 games thus far.

Georgia (14-9, 6-5) ventures out of the Southeastern Conference schedule in its next game, when the Bulldogs play host to Kennesaw State on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.

ATHENS, Ga. --- Results of a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) exam confirmed that Georgia basketball player Mike Mercer suffered knee injuries that will keep him out of action for the remainder of the 2006-07 season.

Mercer, a sophomore guard, injured his right knee with 9:45 remaining in Georgia’s win at South Carolina on Saturday. An MRI exam performed Sunday revealed that Mercer ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), and also incurred a second-degree sprain of the medial collateral ligament (MCL) in his knee.

“This is a tough break for both Mike and our team,” Georgia head coach Dennis Felton said. “But both Mike and his teammates will fight to move forward. Mike’s spirits are good right now and I’m glad for that because, for the next six months, he will need to keep a positive attitude as he works to regain his strength and athleticism.

“Our team is faced with another challenge now. We will have to work with extra determination and togetherness to overcome the loss of Mike in our lineup. I have no doubt that we will do just that.”

Mercer is expected to recover fully from his injuries, according to team trainer Colby Pohlmann. He has begun rehabilitation with the UGA Sports Medicine department and is scheduled to undergo surgery on his knee in 10-14 days.

It'll be tough to overcome the injury. How' s the conference schedule look for y'all the rest of the way? I know you still have Kentucky and Florida, correct? Plus I would assume you still have to play UT at least once (I can't remember y'all playing them at all).

We've got a stretch run that is favorable with Auburn, Mississippi and the Mississippi State. After that it's Kentucky and Tennessee. We've already played Florida twice.

Yup. Kinda shocked by that result. Luckily Georgia took care of Auburn at home and now take on a pretty tough Ole Miss team on the road (they are tied for the lead in the West at 6-6). Gaines and Humphrey both played 40 minutes- Gaines was huge with 21 pts, 8 boards and 7 assists.
