I thought I would repost this since the card was soooo damn good:
We open up with a solid Daniels/Prophecy promo setting up the main event.
Next up is "Samoa Joe's Ring". God I love this segment. Today Joe shows us how to apply an abdominal stretch. Then Bryan Danielson shows up and shows Joe a more effective way to apply the stretch~! Then Joe shows us how to take your opponent down to the mat from this position...as does AmDrag. Then Joe shows us how to apply a submission from that position. And AmDrag shows him a better more painful way~! God this is great. Joe and AmDrag then talk about their match tonight as tag partners and AmDrag talks about beating Joe for the ROH World Title (oh what we could have seen were it not for AmDrag's New Japan push. Oh well, at least he's getting paid~!).
FIRST MATCH:Matt Stryker vs. Alex Shelley
First off we have a new commentator! Chris Lovey is joined by Chris Nelson (who I really liked in this match. He has a VERY professional sound).
The 3-rope break rule is in effect for this match and it was used wisely. Really solid mat work. Shelley does something in every match I have ever seen him in that makes me say "I've never seen that before". He truely is "talent on loan from God". Good solid way to start the show.
SECOND MATCH: Nigel McGinness vs. Cody Hawk (HWA Title Match)
Surprisingly good match here despite Hawk not really being ROH caliber. Of course Nigel is and much like Shelley in the first match he always comes up with something innovative or creative during the match.
Next Up is another edition of "Good Times Great Memories" with your host Colt Cabana and his special guest Ace Steele. Not as good as usual but this is interrupted by CM Punk and Tracy. Punk then berates Steele/Cabana for goofing off when they should have their "game faces" on for their war tonight with The Prophecy. Really great mic work here by Punk.
THIRD MATCH: Chris Sabin vs. Jimmy Jacobs
I am sensing a positive trend here. Good matches. Innovative moves. Good stuff. Three for three on this show so far for ROH.
FOURTH MATCH:
Jimmy Rave vs. Caprice Coleman vs. Rainman vs. Todd Sexton (Four Corner Survival)
Really fun change of pace here as the Wildside guys bring their style to ROH. A little pit of everything in this one ranging from submissions, to brawling, to high impact moves (love Coleman's backbreaker into a piledriver) and high flying moves. Good stuff. Everyone looks good although no one really looked great.
FIFTH MATCH: AJ Styles vs. Homicide
Good match. Not great. Seemed to meander a bit in the middle. Both guys put forth great effort as always and pulled out a couple of new tricks. I'll probably say this was around ***1/4 which is disappointing for their standards but still a really good match. Homicide pulled off another AWESOME TOPE CON HILO where he bounced off AJ and into the stands. He a torpedo~! Really solid finishing sequence to the match as well. Good stuff.
SIXTH MATCH:
Special K (Dixie, Joey Matthews, Hydro & Slim J) vs. The Carnage Crew and Dunn & Marcos
Really FUN change of pace here with the only downpart being the run-in by Abyss (YAWN~!). Put hey back to positives for all you Salvation Army members we get the ROH debut of Salvatore Rinauro AKA Mellow~!
SEVENTH MATCH: Jay & Mark Briscoe vs. Samoa Joe & Bryan Danielson (ROH Tag Team Title Match)
WOW. This was a f*cking great match. **** minimum here (maybe it's the booze talking but probably not). This was the best non-NOAH tag-match I have seen in FOREVER (d*mn you KENTA and Marufuji you have ruined me for all tag-team matches). Here are some random highlights:
AmDrag starts off with some SWANK matwork on Jay. d*mn that trip to England sure did pay off for AmDrag. Joe comes in and stretches Mark. AmDrag with some of his trademark STIFF forearms~! And then rips his arm out of it's socket and all is right in the world. Briscoes get in some brief tag-work with some quick tags. Mark strikes AmDrag with forearms as AmDrag begs for another...and another...and another. AmDrag LOVES the pain~! AmDrag returns the pain with the European Uppercut in the business. AmDrag goes back to destroying Jay's arm. Joe comes in and continues the assault. Briscoes use double-team tactics to escape. Jay In. AmDrag with a STIFF running forarm in the corner. NEVERENDING AIRPLANE SPIN by AmDrag~! He rolls thru and the runs to the top rope for a DIZZY flying headbutt~! Briscoes gain the advantage and Mark hits a lazy chop that AmDrag NO SELLS and then STIFFS both Briscoes with uppercuts~! Ref turns his back. Doomsday Device by Briscoes! They double team AmDrag with their patented Heelish tactics. Jay spits at Joe. AmDrag sells his beating...God this is good.
Briscoes split the ring in half and work over AmDrag. Boston Crab by Mark. Heel Tactics and Jay has AmDrag in the Crab. Awesome Springboard knee from Jay. Briscoes's miscommunicate. Roaring forearm by AmDrag~! Hot tag to Joe. It's offically ASS KICKING TIME. Joe In. Samoa Joe is Brutality Defined. Forearms...Sidewalk slams...Atomic Drop...Big Boot...Power Bomb...STF...Joe is FucXing up the Briscoes! He is a one man wrecking crew. Rolling Cradle Time! Into the choke~! Jay breaks it up.
AmDrag back in. CATTLE MUTILATION~! New Champs? NO! Broken Up. Briscoes double team AmDrag with a Mafia kick/STIFF German suplex combo. Doomsday Device but AmDrag rolls thru for the pin...1-2-NO! It's a Pier Six Brawl as Joe is in.
OLE! OLE! OLE! OLE! OLE! OLE! OLE! OLE!
AmDrag with a belly-to-back suplex from the top rope. 1-2-NO!
OLE! OLE! OLE! OLE! OLE! OLE! OLE! OLE!
Stiff forearms in the ring by AmDrag but Jay counters with a STIFF Mafia kick off the ropes! They battle....JAY DRILLER...1-2-3! Briscoes retain....
AWESOME MATCH....
Wow and that wasn't even the main event.
*Breathes again*
EIGHTH MATCH:The Prophecy (Christopher Daniels, Dan Maff & BJ Whitmer) vs. The Second City Saints (CM Punk, Colt Cabana & Ace Steel)
I liked the Main Event a lot it had a really big match feel to it. The problem was that I was coming off an AWESOME LIVE 6-man match from Wildside the previous night (Rainman/Christopher Daniels/Azrael vs. AJ Styles/Altar Boy Luke/Gabriel) so this 6-man didn't seem as good as it probably was (not that the Wildside match was better....but there is just something about seeing it "live" versus on tape).
They did a great job on the ending of the match and how it played out (don't want to spoil it for anyone). Overall good work in the 6-man match.
Overall, I would HIGHLY recommend that you guys pick up this tape. It is probably the best ROH release (just beats out BTO)I have seen in the last 6 months besides MES and FB2004 (counting all releases since DBD).
