Alright, I will never be the one to review the new shows first, because I always wait for DVD's. So I decided that I would go back, find some of my favorite shows, and review them when I have the time. So here is the first one I shall review.
ROH First Anniversary Show
Match One: Michael Shane vs. Colt Cabana vs. EZ Money vs. Chad Collyer
Fun, fun match here. Great stuff from everybody. Shane looked as good as I have ever seen him in this match. Cabana was great as always. EZ Money, like Shane, looked pretty much as good I have ever seen him. I enjoy Collyer much more when he isn't in a singles match. Every guy did their part in this match. Great sequence of dives 3/4 of the way through, and a great sequence of finishers near the end. Good match. ***
Match Two: TWA Students vs. The Carnage Crew
If you have seen their RRC II and DBD matches, this will dissappoint the hell out of you. There was some good stuff while it lasted, but it was way to short and the no finish hurt it. *
Match Three: Jay Briscoe vs. Mark Briscoe
WOW. This match was GREAT. I loved every second of it. It seemed like the two had been practicing this match for years. So fluid, such nice sequences, such great wrestling all around. I never saw their HIB match, but this match was great. Incredible finish as well. Has to be seen to be believed. ****
Match Four: Steve Corino vs. Homicide
I love both of these guys, but this match just wasn't that good. Didn't even come close to their BFSE or WOTW matches. It was an ok match, but definately nothing to write home about. **
The Infamous NYC Riot
Well, I loved this. Even though I knew it was fake, it was just done so damn well. You could tell the people at the show thought this was a real riot. Everyone did a great job, and it was really entertaining. The DVD shows this 3 different times, from three different cameras. I would watch all 3 once, and then just skip over them next time.
Match Five: THe Outkast Killahs vs. The Ring Crew Express
Not even a match, as CW Anderson comes out and takes all of them out. DUD
Match Six: CM Punk vs. CW Anderson
This wasn't as bad as the people at the show thought, but it wasn't very good. I thought it was better than Cide/Corino from earlier, but not by much. Anderson is better as a tag wrestler. **
Match Seven: Bryan Danielson vs. Samoa Joe
This match was fun as hell and pretty stiff. Just a very well put together match by these to. This match was very underappreciated IMO. Good wrestling here. ***1/2
Match Eight: Paul London vs. AJ Styles vs. Low-Ki
WOW. This match was off the charts fun. Winner of this match gets a title match later. All three guys looked great. Some great moves from all three. Incredible kicks by Low-Ki in this. Some moves that stick out are Low-Ki giving a top rope hurricanrana to Styles who is powerbombed by London as he lands, and a middle rope Ki Krusher. Fun, Fun match. ****1/4
Match Nine: Xavier(c) vs. Paul London
This match was so good. It was perfectly worked. Xavier is an awesome heel, and got some great heel heat. London pretended in the beginning of the match he couldn't do his dropsault because he was so tired from the last match. He was stumbling across the ring and pretending to be exausted perfectly. Great wrestling from both guys, and an ending that really pissed off the fans. Good stuff here. ***3/4
Match Ten: DHS/SAT/Divine Storm vs. Special K
This was a mess. Some fun spots and stuff, but overall it sucked. This was a real waste of Jodi Fleisch. He should have been in a single's match against somebody good. Just a complete mess of a match. Xavier/London should have been the ME. *
Some great flashbacks are shown troughout the Tape/DVD of ROH's first year. Very good flashback picks. Some of them are the first Briscoe/Briscoe match, the Shane/London streetfight, and the EOHB 3 Way. Good extra stuff.
Some very good promos. London, Ki, and Styles all give seperate one's about become ROH Champion. Cabana does some funny stuff. The Group is formed by Steve Corino. Good stuff.
Well there you have it, ROH's One Year Anniversary. Fantastic show. A must have for any ROH fan.
Thoughts? Comments? Any are appreciated.
