I have a TON of wrestling to watch and NO time. I was planning on sitting down and watching some WORLD-1, IWA Mid-South or puro tonight when I checked my mailbox. Low and behold there were 2 packages. YEAH~! I got my old Stampede tapes that I bought (some TJ, Teddy and the crew) and a WPCW Hawaii DVD that I ordered last week (it came with a T-Shirt!).
Here is the match listing:
WPCW "Superstars, Legends & Locals Hawaii Tour 2004"
Teddy Hart vs. Kaimana
Jimmy Snuka vs. Metal Maniac
Bret Hart, Special Guest Speaker
AJ Styles vs. Prince Iaukea
Sabu vs. Saturn
Kaniala vs. Dark Ninja
Samoan Island Tribe vs. Buff Bagwell/Hellraisers
Barbarian vs. JT Wolfen
AJ Styles vs. Teddy Hart
plus bonus footage...
So here are my thoughts/ramblings on some of the matches that I watched:
Teddy Hart vs. Kaimana
If you liked Teddy then you will like this match. Kaimana looked decent and didn't do anything wrong but this was the Teddy Show as he started with some nice mat work before pulling out a nice front flip to the outside, then countering a foot choke in the corner into a drop toe hold, Teddy then pulls out the middle rope moonsault (a thing of beauty), then hits a Maximo Implosion type headdrop move, then his signature DDT from the top rope, then a SSP, and finally Open Heart Surgery for the win. Good stuff.
AJ Styles w/Don Muraco vs. Prince Iaukea
I enjoyed this match. Iaukea has put on some weight but did his part in the match. AJ played heel throughout the match (since Iaukea is local) with Muraco interfering once to pull the ref out of the ring. Overall a fun match. More of a showcase for AJ then anything else.
Sabu vs. Saturn
Tables, Chairs, Spikes, Blood and Bad Tattoos...OH MY~! If you are a fan of Sabu, Saturn or intense brawls then this is your match. I thought it was FUN.
AJ Styles vs. Teddy Hart
I was really looking forward to this match and it DID NOT disappoint. Wow this was great. I'm sure I am overrating it but I liked it alot (I'll have to watch it again to determine how many snowflakes to throw their way...definitely upper 3's if not more)...
They start with an intense lock-up to the ropes. It is broken up. They get face-to-face in the center of the ring and talk trash. AJ with a side headlock...Teddy reverses into a wristlock and follows thru into a headlock. AJ reverses into an armbar...Teddy reverses...AJ reverses...NICE SEQUENCE...AJ grounds him with a headlock take down. Teddy reverses into a headscizzors. They trade reversals back and forth. GREAT ACTION.
To their feet Teddy with a side healock. To the ropes and AJ NAILS his signature dropkick sequence. AJ whips Teddy to the corner. Teddy reverses but then misses a shoulder block. AJ goes to the outside for a springboard but Teddy blocks it and AJ goes sprawling to the outside. Teddy goes for a front flip from the ring to the floor but AJ moves. AJ in the ring and goes for a high cross body to the floor but Teddy moves! AJ up quickly and NAILS Teddy with a SICK superkick. AJ back in the ring and hits a BEAUTIFUL dive onto Teddy who was outside the ring.
Back in the ring. AJ with a high knee drop. Teddy fires back with punches and then hits a nice backdrop into a facebuster. Teddy then hits a fireman's carry into a facedrop. Teddy picks up AJ for the BURNING HAMMER! NO! AJ drops out of it and they exchange a few chops. AJ goes for StylesClash. NO! Teddy with a backdrop.
Teddy climbs the middle ropes and hits an AWESOME moonsault onto a standing AJ.
Back to their feet and Teddy maneuvers NICELY into an ARMBAR submission~! AJ to his feet and throws some forearms. Off the ropes and Teddy hits a back elbow smash. Teddy with his SPINNING DDT~! Teddy smashes AJ into the turnbuckles head first and then hits a back suplex.
To their feet as they trade punches. AJ to the ropes and comes off with his signature quebrada into a reverse DDT. AJ follows up with a spinning kick. Then a STIFF clothesline that flips Teddy. Quick powerslam by AJ. 1-2-NO!
AJ throws Teddy to the corner but Teddy kicks AJ as he approaches. Teddy to the top and hits his signature DDT as he comes off and plants AJ face first into the mat. Ummmm....Canvas. 1-2-NO! AJ to his feet first and hits an awesomely STIFF german suplex to Teddy and rolls thru and hits a back suplex into a facebuster on Teddy. 1-2-NO!
AJ goes for a rana but Teddy reverses it into a powerbomb. Teddy sets up AJ and goes up top. OPEN HEART SURGERY! NO AJ moves out of the way. AJ to the top but Teddy pushes the ref into the ropes. AJ falls onto the turnbuckles. Teddy mounts the turnbuckles and fires away at AJ. Teddy goes for a rana but AJ blocks it and holds onto Teddy and NAILS him with a STYLES CLASH from the TOP~! 1-2-3!
Wow. Great match.
