Traded tapes with a guy and got this ROH show, original tape not a copy... I am not interested in giving ROH any money (due to the possibility i may be giving money to Feinstein), but I suppose they get nothing from me making a trade..
ROH 1/10/04 "The Battle Lines are Drawn"
Heh first thing i notice when I take the tape out of the box there's a sticker on the tape that says this tape is protected from being copied by "Macrovision"??!? So supposedly if i have two vcrs hooked up to copy this, it won't work. Well my VCRs were hooked up and it played just fine. And I consider this the HEIGHT OF HYPOCRISY when a company built on BOOTLEG TAPES is now trying to prevent others from doing the same. Give me a break!
Prophecy promo - The camera is way too close, I can see every pore on Daniels' face.
Samoa/Danielson promo - TOO CLOSE!! BACK UP ALREADY!
The ROH announcer has an annoying voice and says AITCHHHCHC all the time.. He doesn't say "indvidual", he says INDIVITCCHHHUAL etc. He says TCCHHH so much pretty much all you hear on comentary is TCCCHHTHCHTHCHTHCH. Also he can't even pronounce words correctly. He says "EK scape" and "EK specially". Not once.. EVERY TIME! There's one thing TNA has over ROH, I'll take Tenay over this gimp any day. As for Don West... Well... uhh... GO RED GOOOOOO!!
Stryker vs Alex Shelley - Fun, good match, love the 3 rope break rule. Shelley with a couple creative holds. Stryker looks like Vince Russo's head pasted onto an athletic torso.
Nigel McGuinness vs Cody Hawk - For the HWA title... Nigel looks like Garrison Cade and had a number of really cool looking pin variations. Cody was a tall guy with blonde hair and a beard, he was ok.. Kind of HOSSY though... OK match. Nigel did a neat bladejob.
Colt Cabana has a talk show kinda thing, with special guest Ace Steel. Kinda funny, then CM Punk walks in and cuts a pretty awesome promo telling them to stop goofing around. I think they almost busted out laughing when CM said: "No more goofing around! No more SQUIRRELS ON WATERSKIS!" hehe. Man, TNA gets the least out of EVERYONE.
Chris Sabin vs Jimmy Jacobs - First let me say... I have heard things about Jacobs but had never seen him before. People said he did a bruiser brody kind of gimmick where he wore shaggy boots and yelled HUSS! I had a picture in my head of a shorter version of the most famous bruiser brody ripoff - Vinnie Mack's Berserker. But then I get a look at him - he's a scrawny indy kid with the shoulder-length hair, no beard, one of those silver ball necklaces black tights with "HUSS" on them and furry boots like the car in Dumb and Dumber. Now, I am no Bruiser Brody expert. I've mostly seen clips of matches - One that stands out is a match in Japan of Brody vs Onita, Brody storms through the crowd with his crazy hair and huge beard SWINGING A CHAIN OVER HIS HEAD, and japanese fans are running from him in absolute fear. The crowd goes apesh*t for this match, with Brody as this insane beast and both men brutalizing each other outside of the ring, and when onita rolls in the ring at 19 of a 20 count the crowd goes APEsh*t. Then I see cute little hardy clone #435 JIMMY JACOBS yelling HUSS! This is absolute HERESY! Jimmy Jacobs is the GODZUKI to Brody's Godzilla.
Besides all that, this was a very good match. Sabin has an awesome arsenal, and there was a number of great spots, including one where Jacobs goes for a senton and Sabin lifts his knees, looked BRUTAL! So while I am offended by Jacobs' gimmick, this was a great match - except of course for the announcing, where Lovey Smith or whatever the hell his name is yells so loud at the finish your TV speakers might blow out.
Jimmy Rave vs Rainman vs Caprice Coleman vs Todd Sexton - Rainman immediately wins me over when he steps off the knee into a SPINNING BACK HEEL KICK! Fun match, lots of big moves (there's a fisherman's buster within the first 60 seconds) - kind of makes it hard to build up to a finish when you start off with the most damaging moves there are. Great series of dives, nice finish, all 4 guys looked good.
AJ Styles vs Homicide - Great match.. At one point, Homicide does a tope con hilo, rolls of AJ's back and flies face first into a pile of chairs just barely vacated by the fans. Homicide was checked on, he wanted to continue, and that got him over big time because he looked like he got killed. Awesome finishing sequence, great match.
Carnage Crew vs Ring Crew Express vs Special K? SCRAMBLE - Bunch of guys in this fun scramble. Low amount of highspots, concentration on a series of 1 on 1 sequences where everybody gets a chance to shine. My man Jay Lethal is in this, pulls off a sweet wheelbarrow suplex on one of the Ring Crew guys. I fucking hate the carnage crew, they are the BRADSHAWs of ROH in every sense of the word. Purposeless bladejobs a-go-go in this, too. ABYSS runs in and helps special K win, crowd loves it. He is accompanied by sluts. Serious, that's what the announcer refers to them as. Where'd Abyss find sluts in the bowels of the TNA asylum?
Briscoes vs Brian Danielson & Samoa Joe - Pretty good I guess. I forgot the Jay Driller was that double underhook into a inverted suplex (sitout) that Jay Lethal did at the JAP DUB show. Final 1/3 was good stuff.
Colt Cabana, Ace Steel & CM Punk vs BJ Whitmer, Danny Maff & Christopher Daniels - Pretty good six man, the bulk of it focused on CM Punk's team isolating Danny Maff. Then things broke down and we got a good series of nearfalls... Then a REF BUMP? In ROH? Well at least they declared it a no contest... To make the fans happy the wrestlers kept going.. the valets went at it - no catfight, they actually wrestled (looked "eh"), and eventually it all boiled down to Punk giving Daniels a top rope angel's wings THROUGH A TABLE! Daniels hit with his chest and face, what a sick bump....
Overall - Good show!
