I just watched this tape so I thought I'd share my thoughts on it. For future reference I score on a 5 star (*) system and I tend to be an easy rater, so just a heads up if you disagree with some of my ratings. I also have a tendency to score based on what I expect out of the match, so if I expect crap and it's good, then it'll generally get a higher rating. Lets get it on!
Abdullah The Butcher, Ebedullah The Butcher & Yasu Urano vs. Shigeo Okumura, Gran Hamada & Taichi Ishikari (11:58) Let me be the first to say that Abdullah is the most worthless piece of shizzle in professional wrestling today. To be completely honest I was distracted by Abdullah’s ability to grow titties on his titties. His titties’ titties droop over his waist!!! This guy is seriously so fat that he can hardly move. He gets the finish after he waddles over to the legal man, waves his hands around, and places his hand on his opponent’s throat. Aside from Abdullah the Butcher having less mobility than Droz, the match really didn’t do much for me. Ebedullah the Butcher was just a chunky dude in a mask that looks surprisingly like Ebessan’s (one of the clowns from team Japan on TNA) and Yasu Urano looked out of place. The other team really didn’t have any stand out moments, as the match was just to put over Abdullah. ¼*<br>
Nobukazu Hirai & Ryuji Hijikata vs. Nobutaka Araya & Hideki Hosaka (9:08) This match seemed like the contestants were just going through the motions. Nothing really spectacular, but not a bad match by any means. *1/2
TAKA Michinoku , The Gladiator (Mike Awesome) & Bull Buchanan vs. Arashi, Masayuki Kono & Hi69 (12:09) Who told Bull Buchanan he could get in awesome shape and learn how to wrestle? Seriously, throw everything you thought about the guy out the window because he surprised the all-living hell out of me during this match. He even walked the ropes and then jumped off into a neck breaker. The opposing team didn’t get much offense during the match as it was just to promote R.O.D., but it was worth it. TAKA didn’t seem to do a whole lot besides get off a few kicks, but Awesome finished the match when he did an awesome bomb from the ramp, over the top rope, and into the ring. This match kicked butt and so does Buchanan. ***1/4

Hardcore Tag Match: Tomoaki Honma & Kazushi Miyamoto vs. NOSAWA & MAZADA (12:27) This match was AWESOME. I thought hardcore matches had pretty much been played out to death, but this killed that idea. NOSAWA & MAZADA pretty much dished out the pain to Honma & Miyamoto the entire match; that is until H & M come back at the end and get the pin. This match had everything from tables, ladders, what I believe was a snowboard, kendo sticks, and the most feared weapon in any hardcore match…a stuffed Pooh Bear. That’s right! Pooh Bear 3:16 whooped some serious ass in this match. ****
Genichiro Tenryu vs. Masanobu Fuchi (10:43) Tenryu is, simply put, a pissed off old guy who doesn’t let little bitches like Fuchi push him around. After almost choking Fuchi out and knife-edge chopping him until his chest starts to bleed, Tenryu puts him away with a powerbomb in an easily won match. Sure it was pretty much a squash, but it was pretty fun to watch. **1/2
AJPW World Jr. Heavyweight Title: Kaz Hayashi vs. BLUE-K (14:31) (Hayashi becomes the 21st champion) BLUE-K? Who the hell is BLUEHOLY CRAP IT’S TAKA MICHINOKU! In his second match of the night, TAKA faces Kaz Hayashi for what I assume was the vacated AJPW World Jr. Heavyweight Title. The match itself was ok, but maybe only because I expected more out of these two. Don’t get me wrong, the match wasn’t bad in any sense, but aside from two moonsaults it wasn’t much of a cruiserweight style match. Hayashi ends up getting the win and the belt. **3/4
Taiyo Kea vs. Satoshi Kojima (19:23) This match emphasized one thing I had never thought about before. You know how Stone Cold and others wear those huge metal knee braces? Well wouldn’t those hurt if you used them as a weapon? Taiyo Kea did and ended up beating Kojima in a hard fought battle. Even though Kojima lost, these two are obviously not finished with each other as they continued to brawl after the match was over. I really don’t know what else to say besides this was a great match and both men seriously kick ass. ***

Keiji Muto & Bob Sapp vs. Jamal & D-Lo Brown (15:05) While writing this review I’m trying to come up with the words to describe how huge Bob Sapp really is, but I just can’t do it. Jamal looks like a little kid compared to him. Aside from Sapp being huge, this match was really fun. D-Lo drew some huge heat mocking Muto several times and Jamal matched Sapp blow for blow. My favorite spot in this match is at one point D-Lo does a move on Muto, gets on one knee to mock one of Muto’s famous poses, then BAM, gets hit with a shining wizard. Muto and Sapp end up winning when Muto hits D-Lo with a shining wizard…from the top rope while he’s sitting on Bob Sapp’s shoulders! Easily the match of the night. The funniest part about Bob Sapp is he does this yelling/grunting after every move, but it’s not the kind you would expect from a guy that huge. It sounds like he’s going through puberty while yelling. Really, it’s pretty funny. ****1/2 Triple Crown: Toshiaki Kawada (c) vs. Shinya Hashimoto (19:57)You know when the entire mat gets covered in streamers that somebody is going to get his ass whooped. After seemingly swimming out of his sea of streamers, Kawada shows Hashimoto why he’s the Triple Crown champion. I was wrong when I expected a wrestling match in this one. If anything this was an all out fight because I can’t even count how many times Kawada kicked Hashimoto. The near twenty-minute fight didn’t seem nearly that long, as the entire match was nonstop action with very little rest holds. Kawada is officially on my cool list. **** Final thoughtsI HIGHTLY RECCOMEND you check out this PPV. I got it for $15 on two VHS tapes through www.highspots.com. In my opinion this PPV had much better matches than Wrestlemania 20 (and costs $35 less). The greatest part about this PPV is it's a Japanese style, yet it's not so far off of the American strong style that the average American fan wouldn't find it too boring. Even though there are virtually no cruiserweight matches, there are still plenty of exciting matches. If anything you need to watch this PPV just to see NOSAWA try to chocke somebody out with Pooh Bear. NOTE: Sorry about posting this in the Puroresu forum, my bad.

I had a feeling it was Ebessan but I have only ever seen him with a top on, so I wasn't sure if he really was that chunky or not. Either way he did virtually nothing during that match besides feed off of what little pop Abdullah got.

Mostly just flailing. He really wasn't in the match much, but when he was he usually just exhanged blows with Jamal. His moveset consisted of lariats, a basement drop kick, a gorilla press slam, chokeslam, and a headlock. I really don't think I forgot to include any moves on that list. He was just there for star value.

That's pretty much the same as he did on the 11/2/03 Michinoku Pro show (which was VERY good BTW) although that was more of a comedy match (Jinsei Shinzaki & Chi-Nen Hokkai vs Bob Sapp & Tsubo Genjin).

Hey Rick, is highspots a good place to order tapes? Is the quality good, and how fast is the delivery usually? Thanks for the help.

Highspots was great to order from. I ordered that event plus the January Toryumon PPV, which together consisted of four tapes, on a Friday and I had them in my hands on the next Wednesday. They even have custom fancy schmancy highspots tape sleeves. I actually just got done ordering the 2003 Toryumon Numero Uno tournament that Kev liked so much as well as the last Toryumon X show.

Ok thanks. I'm probably going to be ordering El Numero Uno 2003 and NOAH 9/12(I think) within the next week from Highspots.

You should definitely get these two tapes (as these feds are both great and completely opposite). Here is what Meltz rated 3 of the matches from the 9/12 NOAH show: Kenta Kobashi vs. Yuji Nagata 9/12/03 ****1/2 Takashi Sugiura vs. Michael Modest 9/12/03 ***1/2 KENTA & Naomichi Marufuji vs. Yoshinobu Kanemaru & Makoto Hashi 9/12/03 ****1/2
