Alex Shelley vs. Jay Lethal
Really strong opener that had a great story (and back story) and solid work. Shelley controlled the majority of the match (which made sense since he is more established) and did some tremendous work on Lethal's legs during the match (Lethal did a pretty good job of selling). Lethal picked his spots and showed heart by making small comebacks throughout the match until Shelley had to cheat to put him away by pulling the tights on a roll-up.
I have been very impressed with Jay Lethal since he has broken out of Special K and definitely think he is on the cusp of breaking out into a top notch singles performer. But I don't think he's there yet. I like the way ROH has handled his push by putting him up against established ROH guys like Alex Shelley, CM Punk and Chad Collyer and also giving him a chance to showcase his talent against up and comers like Delirious. I think that with a little more work and experience Jay Lethal can be a force to be reckoned with in ROH in 2005.

Jimmy Rave vs. Angel Dust
This was a fun little match that showcased both guys offensive talents. The match was a little on the long side for what they were doing but it didn't really affect the outcome, I just think they could have put together a tighter match in a shorter amount of time. Rave busted out some nice high impact offense and Angel Dust looked really good. I have really been digging Angel Dust recently since I have had more of a chance to watch him (in ROH and Wildside). When I watch him I can't help but draw comparisions between him and his trainer (Homicide). Angel Dust has definitely taken on A LOT of similar mannerisms and movements from inside the squared-circle from Cide.
Roderick Strong vs. Ace Steel
If it wasn't already clear, then here is the verdict: Both Strong and Steel are better tag-team wrestlers than singles wrestlers. I think it showed in this match but not to the point of the match being bad. The match was just kind of there and was more a slugfest than anything else. I did like the finishing sequence from Steel even though it didn't come off well on tape.
Colt Cabana vs. Austin Aries
Decent match but WAY too long. When I feel like I am waiting for a match to end (instead of waiting to see how a match develops) then that is not a good thing. I like both of these guys but they just didn't mesh in this match.
ROH Tag-Title Match: Havana Pitbulls (c) vs. Dixie/Izzy
This was a fun little tag-team match that was pretty much a sprint from start to finish. This style definitely favored Izzy and Dixie and they looked pretty good in the match. Overall, I was disappointed in this match because it never really settled down to be a tag-team match. There was virtually no story throughout the match so it was really tough to get into. This looked like the kind of match that came off much better live then on tape. That being said it was good for what it was but I would have rather seen the Pitbulls take control of the match and have Izzy and Dixie trying to claw their way back as the underdogs.
Pure Title Match: Doug Williams (c) vs. John Walters
Where do I start? I hate to say it but I didn't like this at all. I LOVED Williams two matches with Shelley and I liked his match with Aries but this just wasn't any good. The match just came off flat with Walters looking very green in several parts of this match and not looking confident at all. It was definitely not a performance becoming of crowning a new champion. Doug had a decent match but this really wasn't your typical Doug in this match either. Not much good chain wrestling or submission/reversals here either. I just didn't like it. Don't know what else to say. I understand why they gave Walters the title (to help try and get him over. He needs the title more than Williams, Aries, or Shelley) but I just don't feel that he is a deserving champion. Hopefully he will prove me wrong with some of his title defenses but the best he has looked has been in tag-team action this year versus GenNext and this was far from his best work (or Doug's).

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooooo
I was hoping youd love that match, ah well though. Any particular reason Walters looked green to you? And what made the Shelly matches better in your eyes than this match
I think this might have disappointed you for the same reason London-Xavier dissappointed me, i hyped it too much! Oh well, im sure Walters will pull out some better matches as Champion, so hopefully those can sway you

Oh well, im sure Walters will pull out some better matches as Champion, so hopefully those can sway you I just didn't think that the match flowed very well. When I watched Shelley and Williams they just worked well together and both guys made the other look better. Williams and Walters (at least on tape) came off the opposite. They just didn't look comfortable together and Walters just didn't look good (especially in the second half of the match). Not sure if there was anything to point out except his timing and execution of moves just seemed out of place. It wasn't necessarily bad it just didn't look good.

Samoa Joe vs. CM Punk vs. Homicide
This was a pretty fun brawl. Not much on the wrestling side but it was good for what it was. That being said I would have much rather seen 2 of these guys go at it 1 on 1 but what are you gonna do since it was originally supposed to be AmDrag vs. Joe.

I'm really really suprised that the Pure title match and 3 way was that disappointing, but i'll have to see it for myself.

Yeah, I'm not sure if I'm going to pick up this show. I think I'll probably get 9/11 when it comes out, though. And definitely the 10/2 Philly show, too.

Jack Evans vs. Trent Acid vs. Loc vs. Devito vs. Dan Maff vs. BJ Whitmer vs. Oman Turtuga vs. Diablo Santiago vs. Fast Eddie vs. Alter Boy Luke vs. Dunn vs. Marcos (Scramble Cage Melee)
This was decent but not worthy of being an ROH Main Event and not as good as the second scramble cage match (which was not as good as the first scramble cage match). Luke and Eddie looked pretty good as besides Evans (who hit a 720 leg drop from the top) had the best looking highspots/dives in the match.
Overall thoughts: This is a disappointing show by ROH standards. This was supposed to be the show that was going to be on the same night as the federation that was running in Court Bauer's mind (some have called it H2). This show was also supposed to have Joe vs. AmDrag and Briscoes vs. Pitbulls but due to various happenings neither of these matches were able to happen. I really enjoyed Shelley/Lethal and AngelDust/Rave but other than that there is not too much reason to go out of your way to see this show. The tag-title match and 3-way were pretty decent. I would suggest that you pick up this release when it is on sale as not everyone likes the same type of wrestling so some of you may really enjoy this one.

OUCH Kev...OUCH!
The LAST show on your list? Harsh...cause its on TOP of mine, but i guess that further proves we have a diffrence of opinon on a lot of things. And also i think this was a show that probably was a thousand times better live
But im really suprised you didnt think much of the Scramble Cage, however i assume its because since there were three to four diffrent things happening at once for the majority of the match, that didnt translate well to tape

And also i think this was a show that probably was a thousand times better live That's exactly what I thought about the show. I really liked the first half of the show but felt let-down by the last 3 matches and those are really what make a show. When I was thinking back on where to place it I knew that "At Our Best" had 2 really good matches in AJ/Punk and Joe/Jay and I didn't feel that this show had anything that even neared Jay/Joe. When I looked at "Last Stand" I thought that the undercard outperformed this show. Oh well, I don't think the show was bad it just wasn't up to the usual ROH standards. To me it was really just about the 3 big highspots/dives and it was REALLY anticlimatic. Because of the rules the set-ups for the highspots were just way too obvious. I'm sure it was fun live but just didn't translate to tape for me.

Damn. Just damn.
Thanks a lot for posting that. Due to TNA's newfound pleasure in pissing me off I've decided I'm going to give ROH another shot. I'll have to look at the cards and compare how I think they'd pan out according to your list. Granted we have some different tastes in wrestling, but the all caps "MUST-SEE" for Death Before Dishonor II Pt II looks pretty tempting. Is Low Ki / Briscoe as awesome as it sounds?

Low Ki vs Mark Briscoe was allright, nothing spectacular, but Briscoe took a beating and kept coming back. I think Marks matches against BJ Whimter and Samao Joe in 2003 were much better than this personally
