I figured that I would start watching some lucha (at least CMLL) since I can TIVO it and watch it when I please. If I enjoy it then I'll try to keep this log up to date:
9/11/04 CMLL TV:
Perro Aguayo Jr vs. Tarzan Boy
Decent match here as Aguayo is the babyface and Tarzan Boy is the heel. Aguayo gets over zealous in the first fall when he brings the ringstep into the ring and gets disqualified dispite the fact that he had the momentum for most of the first fall. Second fall and the match go to Tarzan Boy who uses interference to take this one home.
After the match Vampiro (sides with Tarzan Boy) comes down and then Shocker comes down to chase after Vamp. Looks like a pretty heated feud between Vamp and Shocker.
During this show they are showing lots of highlights and one of them is of Vampiro beating up one of the minis. He attacks him, kicks him and then NAILS him with a tombstone piledrive. God it was great.
Okamura/Hector Garza/Tarzan Boy vs Perro Aguayo Jr/Negro Casas/Mr. Niebla
I think this could have been Garza return match to CMLL (not sure) as he was the only one that did not come down the ramp during introductions and hit the ring and joined the rudos (Tarzan/Okamura) to begin to beat down the Technicos. First fall was pretty much a squash in favor of the rudos as Okamura picked up the pin with a falcon arrow on Negro Casas.
Second fall has Aguayo and Casas having some disagreements and conflicts which leads to (after some dives) everyone on the floor except Niebla and Guerza in the ring. Guerza catches him with a German suplex throw, then plants him with a power bomb and then hits his corkscrew off the top rope for the fall.
I like Perro Aguayo Jr's style. He hasn't done anything to show me that he is a great wrestler but his charisma is very similar to Paul London's. He has a lot of spunk and fighting spirit.
Aguayo seems to turn after the match as he kicks Casas down on the floor and then joins the rudos in the ring.
CMLL Trios Title Match: Canek/Rayo de Jalisco/Black Warrior vs Dr Wagner Jr/Black Tiger/Universo 2K
First fall was pretty fast paced but dominated by the champs as Black Tiger (Silver King) won the first fall for his team with a powerbomb and then held on and pulled his opponent up to receive a dropkick in the face before the pinfall.
The challengers take the second fall when Jalisco takes out Silver King with a dropkick to the knee and then ties him up like a pretzel for the tap. Dr Wagner spent much of this fall being dominated and then avoiding Canek.
Third and final fall settles down into a more traditional lucha match and the MASK RIPPAGE ensues. I think 4 out of the 6 guys had their masked ripped in this one. Canek gives Wagner an extended gorilla press and then drops an elbow on his and rolls him up for a 3 count while Rayo ties up Tiger again. New Champs!
Decent match. I would definitely like to see more of Dr Wagner, Black Tiger, and Rayo as they were fun to watch.
Terrible/Hector Garza/Tarzan Boy vs Perro Aguayo Jr/Negro Casas/Mr. Niebla
This is a continuation of the storyline from the earlier match as Aguayo is teamed with Casas and Niebla but does not enter the match and essentially makes it 4 on 2 as he is fighting with Casas throuout the match (5 on 2 if you count Vampiro and his crutches at ringside). The Rudos take the first fall as they isolate Niebla and are able to pin him with a top-rope splash from Terrible. There was some really good sequences here between Garza and Niebla. Good stuff.
In the second fall we have Niebla taking out Terrible and Garza and Casas taking out Tarzan but they are unable to capitalize because Aguayo will not fight Garza. Garza lies down for Aguayo to pin him but Aguayo refuses, this brings in Casas who pushes Aguayo out of the way but Aguayo pushes back and Garza rolls up Casas for the pinfall and the match. Afterwards Aguayo leaves first without either team.
Pretty fun show overall, the matches were decent and there were a lot of cool highlights during the breaks. They high-lighted one worker who looked to be a new younger star named Mistico who had the Rey Misterio vibe and did some nice moves. Hopefully they will show some of his stuff soon. Nice to see CMLL get 2 hours this week instead of AAA getting the later hour.
