Virus vs. Rocky Romero- CMLL TV- Aired 2/27/05
So I punch up last weeks CMLL show from Galavision and what do I find but Rocky "fucking" Romero on my TV screen. Awesome. And this is for the CMLL Super Ligero Championship with Romero challenging Virus. Match was obviously clipped but still was quite fun, especially since Rocky Romero is on my TV screen. First 2 falls go real quick with each man submitting his opponent setting up the 3rd fall. Lots of fast action here and Virus pulling out a SICK Gory special that ties Rocky into a pretzel. Rocky takes to the air in this fall as he hits is sommersault over the ropes to the outside and then later taps Virus with his armbar to become the new champ. Really fun stuff, I'll have to hunt down the full match but I can't complain since Rocky Romero is on my TV screen.
Kevin Steen & El Generico vs. Mike Quackenbush & Chris Hero- 2/20/05- CHIKARA
Fun match here that was a good mix of comedy and wrestling. Hero and Generico had an early comedy sequence that was GOLD. Late into the match Quackenbush hit an awesome running senton from outside of the ring to the inside of the ring (set up had fans sitting on an elevated platform and he took off from the platform that was even to the ring). Ending was somewhat out of nowhere but still a fun match.

Toshiaki Kawada (c) vs. Satoshi Kojima- All-Japan- 2/16/05
After the two are introduced the camera pans to Hiroyoshi Tenzan with the IWGP title in the crowd. This adds to the significance of this match because not only is this match for the Triple Crown but the winner will go on to face Tenzan in a title vs. title match and defend the honor of AJPW.
Match starts out with some lock-ups and a feeling out process. Koji definitely looks to take it to Kawada in this match as he is the first to go after his opponent when he backed Kawada into the ropes and hit him with two chops. Kawada then takes Koji to the mat on the next sequence and shows his mat dominance. Story of the early part of the match seems to be Kawada outshining Koji on the mat and Koji trying to take it to Kawada when both guys are on their feet, but Kawada gaining this advantage also. Kojima fights hard but Kawada seems to have an answer at every turn. They take the fight to the outside and Kawada plants Koji with a powerbomb on the outside mats. Kawada in complete control at around the 10 minute mark as the fans chant for Kojima.
Back into the ring and Kawada peppers Koji with strikes furthering his advantage. Koji shows tremendous fighting spirit and trades forearms with Kawada but Kawada gets the better of him and then plays with him with some kicks before hitting a big running boot in the corner and then a clothesline for a two count. Kawada then locks on the stretch plum and then a hammerlock submission and tries to put Koji away early.
Koji fights back and hits a Koji driver and then a powerbomb pin before being upended by an enzugiri. Both guys then trade some offense with Koji hitting two brainbusters to gain control. Again they do a sequence with both guys eating some good offense with Koji coming ot on top and then locking Kawada into a submission. Match seems to have evened out at around the 20 minute mark after Kawada owning the first 10 or so minutes of the matches. Fans seem to be buzzing for a title switch as I hear some frequent Koji chants.
Koji plants Kawada with the CCD and then locks on the submission again. Koji goes for a lariot for a possible finish but Kawada hits an enzugiri and then follows it up with a Dangerous Backdrop Driver to once again regain control. Kawada goes for the powerbomb but Koji blocks it so Kawada kicks Koji in the head and then plants him with the powerbomb pin but only gets 2. They trade forearms with Kawada hitting Koji with some sick forearm smashes from both arms and then tries an enzugiri but Koji blocks it to stay on his feet. Koji hits a strong running forearm but Kawada kicks out. Koji follows this up with a lariot but Kawada kicks out at one and jumps to his feet. Koji hits another lariot and gets two. Kojima charges from the corner and nails another lariot that rocks Kawada and ultimately gains Koji the Triple Crown titles.
The two warriors hug in the middle of the ring and Kawada straps one of the titles around Kojima's waist as he crowns his successor and Koji looks visibly shaken with joy in the ring.
Rating: ****
Claudio Castagnoli & Arik Cannon vs. Jolly Roger & Lance Steel- CHIKARA- 2/20/05
Fun little tag match here. CC and Cannon make for a good team as they seem to gel well together and Jolly Roger has some nice lucha-esque offense. Cannon and the ref get into a nice little comedy bit and Cannon and CC eventually get the win here.
Billy Ken Kidd & Ebessan vs. Skayde & Milanito Collection AT- CHIKARA- 2/20/05
WOW, this was fun. None stop action with Milanito really impressing me since this was the first time i've seen him. BKK and Ebessan were awesome as usual. Great stuff and MOTN so far no doubt for Night 3 of the CHIKARA Grand Prix Tag Tourney.

I loved both those CHIKARA matches. In the Claudio and Cannon match, Jolly Roger did some really impressive stuff. I was diggin' all the armdrags he was doing. Claudio and Cannon make an awesome team. Fun match. Team Toryumon X vs. Team Osaka was the FUN match of the night for me. Just nonstop fun. I was super impressed with all 4 of the guys in this. I was going to review this, but I'm way to lazy, so I'll just leave you to it. I do HIGHLY recommend that everyone checks this out though. Probably the most fun wrestling show I've seen. The only downside was a terribly unenthusiastic crowd.

GHC Heavyweight Title: Kenta Kobashi © vs. Takeshi Rikio- NOAH, 3/5/05
Starts off pretty back and forth with a good bit of action taking place outside the ring as Rikio attempts to take the fight right at Kobashi. Rikio seems to have the advantage in the match until he goes to the top rope prematurely and gets hit with a superplex for his efforts.Kobashi takes it to Rikio on the outside and begins to assert his dominance in the match. Kobashi continues to dominate with a DDT on the entrance ramp and a leg drop off the ring apron onto Rikio who was hanging off the ramp and then continues his assault inside the ring. Rikio tries to come back more than once with chops but Kobashi proving to be too much man in the first 15 minutes.
Rikio mounts his first real come back after a Kobashi chop fest in the corner. Kobashi hits a clothesline, then a crossbody, another clothesline and then a nice sideslam move that floors Kobashi. Rikio goes to the top and is stopped again when he punched down by Kobashi and then Kobashi hits a pescado to the floor and follows it up with a running shoulder block off the apron onto a standing Rikio. Back in the ring and Kobashi hits a sick half nelson suplex and then drags Rikio outside of the ring again to try for the same move on the ramp but instead Rikio hits a suplex on Kobashi. About 20 minutes gone at this point and although the pace has been slow it has been a good match that has told the story of Kobashi controlling the challenger and the challenger continually trying to fight back but being upended by the veteran at seemingly every turn.
Rikio gains control when he reverses a suplex and then plants Kobshi with a powerbomb for a 2 count. Rikio then goes for another suplex but is planted by a Kobashi DDT. Rikio tries for another powerbomb but Kobashi reverses it by nailing Rikio with chops. Kobashi then hits another half-nelson suplex and as Rikio stumbles up to his feet he is nailed with a lariot for a near 2 count. Kobashi seemingly back in control at around the 23 minute mark as he has turned back Rikio biggest comeback to date and goes up top for a moonsault and nails it but only gets two. Fans start to chant for Rikio as he continuely kicks out of Kobashi's offense. Rikio turns the tide and hits a half-nelson suplex of his own and then takes down Kobashi with a shoulder block at the 25 minute mark.
Fans chant for Rikio as the two men meet in the center of the ring. Rikio wins out with a clothesline and then plants Kobashi with a powerbomb for a near two. Crowd starts to get that NOAH "buzz" and Rikio signals for a lariot. Rikio picks up Kobashi and hits a huge slam for another two count. Rikio goes for a similar move but this time delivers a sick back suplex and then follows it up by ramming Kobashi into the corner with a running headbutt. Rikio then hits another huge slam (called "the muso") and takes home the NOAH GHC Title. Solid match although a tad unspectacular. Not sure if I liked this as much as the first challenge.
Awesome scene after the match as Rikio is visibly shaken while being presented with the title and the trophy. Kobashi comes over and hugs the new champ and shows great sportsmanship in honoring the man who just defeated him by presenting him with the title belt and helping to strap it on before raising Rikio's hand for the crowd. Awesome reign for Kobashi and a great passing of the torch moment for NOAH, just like Kawada had for Kojima. It's a great thrill in this day and age of wrestling to see guys like Rikio and Kojima finally get to the pinnacle of their fed and to see in their emotions how much it means to them makes it that much better.

Everything I ever see from Chikara guys (in CZW, JAPW, IWS) is great and I really need to get more of it. I'm gonna watch the tag tourney soon though.

NWA World TV Title Match: Jason Cross(c) vs Caprice Coleman vs Jeremy V vs Ray Gordy -NWA-Wildside- 7/3/04
I'm gonna miss these guys. Really fun 4-corners match here in which everyone looked really good and the match seemed to be worked to everyone's strengths. V does a great job being the punching bag but also is able to get in his primary offensive moves. Coleman looks great as always here with his flashy moveset and Gordy brings the stiffness. Cross looks like a champ in this match as he hits all of his stuff perfectly and is able to portray his character well in this match. Ending comes when V hits the VTD on Cross but Jeff G Bailey distracts the reg and then Mikael Adryan hits V with a huge boot which allows Cross to destroy V with the Best Damn Brainbuster in North America to retain the title while Coleman and Gordy brawled outside the ring.
Fast Eddie's Junior Title on the line: Three Guys That Totally Rule (Seth Delay/Fast Eddie/Salvatore Rinauro) vs Brandon P/Delirious/Matt Sydal- NWA-Wildside- 7/3/04
Another really fun match that flowed very well and had a perfect combination of action and comedy. Ending comes when P hits Eddie with his finisher but Rinauro pulls Eddie out of the ring and takes his place and allows a dazed P to pin him for the 3-count thus saving Eddie's junior title (as Eddie would have lost the belt if he was pinned).

Rey Misterio vs. Eddy Guerrero- WWE- 4/3/05
Nice opening sequences with Rey really flying around the ring. Good monkey flip sequences and stalemate with Misterio going to the outside and then coming back in to even out the momentum. Really liked the double pin/double bridge out of the monkey flip-nice spot. Fun stuff follows this up with Misterio racing around the ring until Eddy knocks him out of the ring and then hits a crossbody to the outside. Eddy hits an awesome back suplex. Eddy then methodically tries to ground Misterio (who has been at his best when on his feet) with some submissions. Small spot miscue but in the realm of pro wrestling it's easily played off as Eddy countering Rey's counter to his hammerlock. Eddy stays on offense as he tries a powerbomb but Rey hits an armdrag instead sending Eddy to the outside. Rey follows with a dropkick and then hits a wicked corkscrew plancha to the outside. Nice false flash pin as Rey reverses a suplex into a roll-up for a near 2. Nice sequence with the tilt-a-whirl headscizzors into the missed 619 into the tilt-a-whirl backbreaker. Eddy finally hits his suplex sequence and then crashes and burns from the top rope. Flash pin reversal as Eddy blocks la magistral. Rey nails the 619 but then gets PLANTED by an EddyBomb. THUD! Wicked finish sequence as Eddy is somewhat frustrated after not being able to pin Rey and then Rey charges and goes for a tilt-a-whirl move but transitions into a tilt-a-whirl rana into a pin for a 3 count. Holy rewind and watch that again batman!
I really enjoyed this match. It was a fun opener and Rey looked really good as he was really flying around the ring. Eddy looked a bit off, but you have to expect that he was a little disappointed after going from being in a Championship match last year to curtain-jerking duty this year.

Finally...an update!
Ryo Saito, Dragon Kid, Genki Horiguchi, Naoki Tanisaki vs. Magnum TOKYO, Anthony W. Mori, Super Shisa, BxB (Dragon Gate, 4/9/2005)
Fun match that just seemed to be missing a little something (I think he goes by the name Susumu Yokosuka- guess he's in a different faction now). Anthony and Super Shisa were the stars of the show in this one as they looked really good and fluid in everything that they did. This was my first look at BxB Hulk and he was really fun but definitely looked like a one-dimensional wrestler. Fun stuff overall just wish I could have seen more of my Toryumon favorites here (Susumu, Yossino, K-NESS).
Mistico vs. Ultimo Guerrero (CMLL, 2/6/2005)
Ultimo Guerrero is a fucking AWESOME heel. Mistico comes out for the first fall and UG meets him with a running forearm and just dominates Mistico for the next several minutes. UG just throws Mistico around like a rag doll. Mistico finally gains the advantage and attempts a spinning corkscrew plancha to the outside and UG just simply steps aside and let's Mistico DIE. Mistico then crawls back into the ring and says "no mas" but as the ref is calling the fall UG picks up Mistico and takes him to the top rope and does a spectacular fall-away flipping power-slam (think Fast Eddie) from the top rope to KILL Mistico. Ref calls for the bell and DQs UG for the first fall.
Second fall is more back and forth with Mistico getting time to rest cause UG was protesting his DQ loss in the first fall. Some really great stuff here and well worth going out of your way to see. Recommended.
Kensuke Sasaki vs. Kenta Kobashi (NOAH, 7/18/05}
Plain and simply put this is a dream match. And it acts like one. This is plain and simply two of the biggest baddest Japanese Pro Wrestlers going at it with power vs power and also with Kensuke doing a series of high flying moves including a rana from the turnbuckle! Just a really fun chopfest in the middle of the match in which I have read something like 187 chops were thrown. This is just a big time match with two big time wrestlers delivering on a big time stage in front of a big time crowd. This Dream Match is Big Time.

Minoru Suzuk vs. Yuji Nagata- 8/6/05- NJPW
This was a good little match. I don't know what it is but I just love watching Yuji Nagata and for some reason I always find his matches entertaining. Lots of slaps and back suplexes in this one. First 2/3 of this match are really good but it falls apart a little when MiSuzuki takes over the offense for the home stretch. Good stuff, probably around ***.
Kazuyuki Fujita vs. Hiroshi Tanahashi- 8/6/05- NJPW
I liked this match a lot. Fujita controls the pace of this match as he is very methodical and while a bit green is very good with his strikes. Tanahashi plays the young spunky underdog. Crowd gets behind Tanahashi when he gets in his quick comebacks and the crowd totally pops for a Tanahashi small package at about the 7-8 minute mark. This match was only about 10 minutes long but I felt that this was just enough time for the story that they told. Fujita did great in his badass shooter role and Tanahashi was the perfect spunky babyface here. This match definitely makes me want to see Tanahashi be the guy who eventually topples Fujita for the IWGP belt.

Open the Triangle Gate: Dragon Kid/Genki Horiguchi/Ryo Saito vs. K-NESS/Katsuhiko Nakajima/Susumu Yokosuka (Dragon Gate, 4/8/05)
This is reminiscient of the glory days of Toryumon. Solid match up until the last 5 minutes when sh*t just hits the fan with lucharesu goodness.
Dragon Kid hits a Super Rana from the top which is followed by a Ryo splash off the top onto Susumu. Susumu then gets a brief comeback with a nice clothesline. Nakajima in and accidently nails Susumu with a stiff kick. Susumu is then brutalized by Ryo with a Dragon Suplex pin which is broken up. Ryo and Genki then hit a double-team powerbomb on K-Ness. Then comes a rewind moment as Susumu goes to powerbomb Dragon Kid but DK reverses it into a rana which is reversed into a sunset flip by Susumu. That move was sooooo fluid and just a thing of beauty.
Genki then gets DESTROYED by a flying knee from K-Ness, a clothesline from Susumu and a belly-to-back suplex pin from Nakajima. This is broken up and then Genki pops the crowd with the Backslide from Heaven for a near 2 before Dragon Kid gets the win for his team with a Springboard rana into a pin.
Just an awesome hectic five-minutes of goodness to finish up this match. Highly recommended.

Dr Wagner Jr/Shocker/Mistico vs Ultimo Guerrero/Tarzan Boy/Hector Guerza- 3/18/05- CMLL
This just aired last week on TV and damn it was fun. What do you expect when Mistico/UG/Guerza and Shocker are in the same ring. The more and more I watch Ultimo Guerrero work I am convinced that he IS the best wrestler on planet earth. He just oooozes heel machismo out of his pores. He is one of the masked wrestlers (much like Liger and Misterio) that really connects with his audience despite his mask. Ultimo is a very smooth wrestler, has a great ring presence, seems to be where he needs to be ALWAYS and is probably the best bumper/catcher in wrestling today. Guerza is top notch in this match too. Not because of his work but just because of the way he plays the pussy heel to Ultimo's bad ass heel. Makes for an interesting team. And of course Mistico rules the school with his high spot innovation as he hits some awesome sh*t in this match. Good stuff.

Matt Hardy vs. AJ Styles- IWC- 7/29/05
This was a solid match that had a good build and was pretty much by the numbers. I liked it in that the execution of the moves was good, and they built up to a finishing sequence. The only down part was that it was too by the numbers in that it was very predictible and felt a little bit stale. On the positive side Hardy broke out a sweet front chancery looking submission (looked like James Gibsons move). Good match just seemed a little too predictible. I'm sure it was a better "live" match than taped match.

KENTA & Katsuyori Shibata vs. Mitsuharu Misawa & Go Shiosaki- NOAH- 12/4/05
I liked this a lot. Lots of stiff kicks from Shibata and KENTA and just fun all around. Shibata and KENTA are my new favorite tag-team.
Takehiro Murahama vs. Ikuto Hidaka- Zero-One MAX- 5/20/05
Just a fun little match. Lots of kicks from Murahama and these guys really battle it out. Good matwork and striking throughout the match.
