Christopher Daniels cuts a promo to start the show. He starts at the Murphy Rec center and talks about the history there and then gets in a car and continues to cut the promo as they talk about the ECW Arena and ROH and other stuff until they arrive at the venue where he continues to cut the promo. Solid Promo as Daniels is a good mic guy I'm just not sure that I buy this promo from him since he's spent 75% of his ROH career trying to destroy ROH. I guess it makes sense since it's either him or Danielson- as they are the two guys still in ROH from the feature match that put them on the map- and Danielson is all heely.
Homicide & Ricky Reyes vs. Dunn & Marcos vs. Jason Blade & Kid Mikaze vs. Jay & Mark Briscoe (Tag Team Scramble Match)
This was okay. The stuff with Cide/Reyes and The Briscoes was good. The stuff with Blade/Mikaze/Dunn/Marcos was not so good. Briscoes continue to look good here.
Roderick Strong vs. Jimmy Yang
I liked this but couldn't help but feel that it was a step below their 2005 match- which I thought was really good.
BJ Whitmer vs. Necro Butcher (ROH vs. CZW)
This wasn't really a match, just a fight and a fun one at that. And then SUPER F'N" DRAGON showed up (with a little more gut than the last time I saw him) and kicked ass until the ROH locker room came out to clear the ring of CZW. Fun stuff.
Austin Aries vs. Matt Sydal
This was a good match and there was a good post-match run-in by The Briscoes which brought out Roderick Strong and his chop machine.
Irish Airborne vs. Sal Rinauro & Tony Mamaluke
This was a solid debut for the Irish Airborne. They are from HWA and I see a lot of similarities in their style to the HWA guys (Nigel, Collyer) as far as how they execute moves and their fundamentals. Of course, these guys take a lot more risks and are more aerial guys than Nigel or Collyer. Pretty fun stuff, there timing was a little off on some stuff but I am interested to see what they can do in ROH.
ROH Title Match: Bryan Danielson (c) vs Alex Shelley
This was fantabulous~! There was probably 10 to 15 minutes of mic before the match started by Danielson and then after the match started by Shelley that was just amazingly awesome and hilarious. After and during that they did a long feeling out sequence that was solid and then the match went back and forth with both guys having sustained offense. Danielson hit a beautiful top rope sommersault senton into the crowd onto Shelley and Nana and Shelley was doing his best dickhead Chris Jericho WCW heel shtick in this match. Finish to the match was outstanding. Great heel vs heel match with both guys toying with the crowd and putting on an outstanding wrestling match. This is the best match I've seen from ROH up until this point so far this year.
Christopher Daniels vs. Colt Cabana vs. Samoa Joe (Three Way Dance)
This was good, but not really ROH Main Event caliber. Joe's plane was late arriving so they had to do Cabana vs Daniels and then Joe versus the winner. After Cabana beat Daniels, Joe ran out in street clothes and they went at it for about 5 minutes until Joe hit his second muscle buster for the win.
After that there was a crazy brawl with ROH facing off against CZW with CZW winning the battle due to bringing out some crazy sh*t like weedwackers and barbed wire baseball bats and staple guns and all sorts of other stuff. Super Dragon was the MVP during this melee for CZW as he ripped an ROH shirt from a fans hands, choked out BJ Whitmer with it...then shoved it down his pants and threw it at the fan. Whitmer was the sacrifical lamb here as CZW basically killed him to end the show.
Verdict:
This show is like most of the 2006 ROH releases up to this point so far, it's a good solid show but not yet reaching the point ROH was at the end of 2006. Shelley vs Danielson is worth the purchase of this DVD by itself, plus Aries/Sydal, the Briscoes, the debut of the Irish Airborne, Strong/Yang are all solid. Good show, wait for a sale to pick it up.
