The first CZW show of 2006, and it was a quite good one. Lots of solid matches and one really good six man tag.
1. Larry Sweeney vs. Excalibur
Solid but forgettable opener. The promo stuff was better, but the wrestling itself was just OK, and the crowd kinda lacked here. I expect better from Mr. Sweet and Sour.
2. Niles Young vs. Cloudy
Really good spot match here. I'm glad Cloudy and Cheech have gotten into CZW, as they are perfect junior fits. Niles looked good here as well, as his heel manorisms are picking up and he's way less sloppy than he used to be. Really enjoyed this, and this proves what i've always said...Cheech and Cloudy are miles better than Izzy and Dixie ever were.
3. Adam Flash vs. Heretic
Another solid match. Flash stepped it up and played a nice killer role here as heel. Heretic has new Freddy Kruger music and nice tights. He's the future of the buisiness as long as he keeps getting chances on the shows. Enjoyed this as well.
American Dragon confrontation with Chris Hero
Dragon hits the ring with a BIG ammount of heat, so Hero runs it and they start going at it. Then Aries, Strong and McGuinness hit the ring and battle both Hero/Double C and Blackout, then they run out the front door and speed off. The first major shot fired in the war that I'm loving more than any other indy angle in the world right now.
4. Black Out vs. Chris Hero, Claudio Castagnoli & Super Dragon
Best of the night. Starts with all the backstory as an all out brawl, then heads to the ring for some nifty heel triple teams by the Super Hero's. King rises up again as one of the top men in the fed, and Blackout pulls out a big win in a 20 minute war that had everything.
5. Derek Frazier vs. Cheech
A close 2nd. Very stiff and physical match that had a lot of near falls and more brawling/strong style than I'd have expected. Frazier then pulls out a 360 unprettier that I've never seen before, and gets another big win. My how good he's gotten.
6. Justice Pain vs. Joker
Given Joker's ring rust and Pain's late enthrallment with hardcore, this was better than I expected, but really could have been good if they ended it 10 minutes earlier. Just too long and too much offense employed by both men.
Nate Webb Interview
Just continuing his decent and well drawn out fued with Pandora's box and setting up a match with Flash next show.
7. No Rope Barbed Wire: Nick Gage vs. JC Bailey vs. Necro Butcher
I normally skip these but this was pretty crazy for the crap they go through. Watch this just for the amazement of punishment they can take. Not a good wrestling match by any means, but CZW's hardcore never ceases to amaze me.
Overall, matches 2, 3 and 5 stood out for different reasons, had really good paces and pushed some younger guys. Match 4 was awesome and worth the DVD alone. Really liked this show, great way to start the CZW year.
