They added the recap video from rohvideos.com as an option on the Main menu to catch up DVD watchers with angles going into this show. Really good idea- plus if you skip this on the menu then you are reminded it is there during the first match.
Colt Cabana vs. Jimmy Jacobs
Below average opener. I probably just expected more from these two guys. Nothing overly bad, just not at the level I thought it should have been.
Post match Jim Cornette and crazy Ace Steele come out and ask Colt to join them in their fight against CZW tonight.
Irish Airborne vs. Jay Fury & Spud
Decent, fun match. This should have probably been the opener as it got the crowd going more than the opener. Irish Airborne looked really good here. Spud and Fury looked a bit off at times but that is to be expected since they've never teamed before and probably never will again.
Post match Super Dragon attacks a "fan" from behind (it was later revealed by the announcers that this was an ROH student working as an usher at the show), beats the fuck out of him and tosses him into the ringside area. SD then leaves via the backdoor.
Next up is a solid Nigel McGuinness promo hyping his match tonight with Chris Daniels and his match tomorrow with Bryan Danielson.
Jimmy Rave w/Daizee Haze vs. Delirous
Solid match as this was the first match with a real in-ring story as Rave focused his attention on the injured hand of Delirious. Anti-climatic ending as they wrestle to a 15-minute draw which came out of nowhere.
Pure Title Match: Nigel McGuinness (c) vs. Christopher Daniels
Solid match but somewhat uneventful until the last 5 minutes. Nigel uses up all of his rope breaks and Daniels has him in a Cobra Clutch type move and all Nigel can do to break the hold is to roll out of the ring thru the ropes with Daniels attached. Both guys hit the floor and then they brawl for a while as the count gets really high. Then Nigel takes the ringside photographer and throws her into Daniels which knocks both of them down and Nigel dives into the ring at 19 and wins via countout. Pretty good heely finish to the match from the perspective that Nigel will do anything to keep the title and will use all of the advantages of the rules.
Prazak interviews Bryan Danielson backstage and post-interview Danielson and Samoa Joe exchange words.
ROH Title Match: Bryan Danielson (c) vs. Jimmy Yang
Good match and definitely the MOTN up to this point. Yang catches Danielson off guard early with his quickness and Danielson has to take a breather before gaining the advantage. Danielson controls the majority of this match and Yang fights back with bursts of offense. Not one of the best Danielson defenses this year but definitely worth seeing.
ROH Tag Team Title Match: Austin Aries & Roderick Strong (c) vs. Samoa Joe & Matt Sydal
This was a good but uneven tag-team match. Started out really slow and picked up at the end. Never really got to the level I think it could have.
After the match Samoa Joe gets on the mic and says he wants to kick some ass and calls out the CZW guys. Necro Butcher is the first to arrive and he and Joe brawl until Super Dragon and Nate Webb show up and triple team Joe. Colt Cabana and Ace Steel then join the brawl. Claudio Castagnoli then arrives to swing the favor in CZW's corner until BJ Whitmer and Adam Pearce come out for ROH.
Adam Pearce, BJ Whitmer, Colt Cabana, & Ace Steel vs. Super Dragon, Claudio Castagnoli, Necro Butcher, & Nate Webb (Anything Goes Match)
And it ends up being this. Just a sprawling brawl. No real resemblance to a match except the ref counting falls towards the end. Not on the level of the wild Six Man from the "100th Show" but this one has it's moments. Spot of the match was Super Dragon setting up BJ Whitmer to take the Psycho Driver off the apron thru a table AGAIN, but Cabana saves Whitmer and sets up Dragon on the table. Cabana then goes for a moonsault but Claudio breaks it up and sends Cabana to death by table. Just a sick spot. Another sick spot was when Claudio set up BJ Whitmer in a pendulum and placed his head on a chair. Super Dragon then went to the top and hit a doublestomp onto BJ's head. Claudio then finished off BJ with a Muscle Buster~! Announcers were a little over the top but overall a fun match without the heat of the "100th Show" Main Event.
Post match ROH clears the building as they attend to BJ Whitmer. Ace Steel and Adam Pearce then have some strong words for CZW as the arena has been cleared and Whitmer is finally being stretchered out of the ring.
Verdict:
This was a solid show but nothing must see and missing is the usual big time Main Event. Definitely one you can wait for a sale to pick up. This one will end up one of the bottom shows of the year for ROH but it's still very watchable and in a lot of promotions this would be the show of the year. I think what is missing is that one big match because the shows I rated barely above this have that one match (Dissension- AJ/Danielson, HFO- Sydal/AJ, Hero/Danielson, Whitmer/Joe). That being said the tag-match, Delirious/Rave, Daniels/McGuinness and the 8-man are all worth seeing.
