Show starts off with Jimmy Jacobs and Lacey backstage and Lacey tells Jimmy that she is fed up with his losing and that if he loses tonight then he will never have a shot with her. Dangerous~! Jimmy looks at the camera like a love sick puppy dog.
Austin Aries and Roderick Strong cut a promo about how this show is about seeing who the best champions are and that they will prove tonight in their match against the Briscoes that they are the best tag-team in the world!
BJ Whitmer makes his way to the ring in his neckbrace and challenges the CZW guys but Adam Pearce and Jim Cornette come down and talk some sense into him. Cornette then cuts a long promo which leads to him announcing he is taking a leave of absence from ROH to heel and he appoints Adam Pearce as his replacement while he is gone. Pearce then cuts a promo. Pearce and Cornette make their way from the ring when Nate Webb jumps Pearce and takes him out. He goes after Cornette but crazy Ace Steele tackles him and chases him from the building.
Colt Cabana & Conrad Kennedy III vs. Irish Airborne
Decent opener. This was my first time seeing CK3 and he looked pretty good. I definitely think he should get some more looks on the midwest shows.
Chris Sabin vs. Delirious
Chris Sabin isn't a spot wrestler, he just plays one on TV! This was a solid back and forth match. Delirious is entertaining as hell and Sabin actually gets to do some wrestling and not just hit spots and he looks pretty good. Delirious reverses the Cradle Shock into his new submission finisher and puts away yet another victim. Good stuff.
Jimmy Yang vs. Jimmy Jacobs vs. Spud vs. Trik Davis vs. Jay Fury vs. Flash Flanagan (Six Man Mayhem)
This was good for what it was. Good overall performances by everyone involved but the Six Man Mayhem matches really aren't my cup of tea.
Samoa Joe vs. Claudio Castagnoli
Dueling mic work to set up this match and they deliver a good solid match. Match is ended when Nate Webb and Necro Butcher hit the ring, Necro just destroys Joe's leg with a chair and this brings out Adam Pearce and Ace Steel and they brawl for a while. Super Dragon then comes out and shortly thereafter comes BJ Whitmer and eventually it works itself into.....
BJ Whitmer vs. Super Dragon
Solid match although the Whitmer has a "broken neck" stuff from the announce crew is a little over the top. That being said this ROH vs CZW fued has really gotten BJ over as he got some pretty huge chants after the match.
Matt Sydal vs. Christopher Daniels
This was a solid match that built well but was just missing that *something* as the match had very little heat for the near falls and seemed to lose some momentum towards the end after Sydal's big moonsault to the outside.
Bryan Danielson vs. Nigel McGuinness (ROH World Title vs. Pure Title)
Really good match that can really be seperated into two distinct parts. The first 15 minutes is a pretty slow paced feeling out process in which the rope breaks are gradually worked into the equation (the match is being wrestled under the "Pure" rules). The second part of the match starts when Danielson's left arm has been worked over and is injured so he takes his right hand and just slaps the FCUK out of Nigel right across the face. The leads to a more intense second half of the match with both guys really taking it to each other and eventually all the rope breaks being used which aids Danielson more due to his submission finishes (Cattle Mutliation and Cross Faced Chicken Wing). Match builds nicely to the end and I think the end of the match works (won't spoil it if you haven't already heard the results). One of Danielson's best matches this year and of course he is the Wrestler of the Year for 2006 (and McGuinness is no slouch).
Austin Aries & Roderick Strong vs. Jimmy Rave & Alex Shelley w/Daizee Haze (ROH Tag Team Title Match)
Long intro to the match which includes the usual Toilet Paper bombardment of the Embassy and some clips that tell the GenNext vs Embassy story (plus the Alex Shelley/GenNext story). Match starts out with a slow feeling out process with moves into a nice action sequence with GenNext on the offensive. From this point it goes into the body of the match which is the Embassy controlling by isolating Aries. Lots of comedy during this part of the match which slowly morphs into drama. Roderick gets the hot tag and match heats up until the ending. Surprise spot of the match was Shelley getting a Sliced Bread #2 reversed into an inverted pile driver by Strong. Ouch. Really solid match as have been the majority of the Aries/Strong title matches. I'm really going to miss seeing Alex Shelley in ROH as he has always been a really good wrestler but over the last couple of years he has really developed great crowd interaction and character to go with his wrestling. Plus, he and Jimmy Rave just have fantastic chemistry. Knowing that ROH is cutting back on TNA guys I would have rather seen Christopher Daniels go than Alex Shelley.
Post match Dave Prazak interviews Nigel McGuinness and McGuinness says that since he won tonight he is the best title holder in ROH. Danielson confronts him and then Delirious barges in with his torn mask (Danielson had tore his mask on a previous show when he beat and bloodied Delirious) and proceeds to cut a great gibberish promo on Danielson like only he can. McGuinness then attacks Danielson with a belt shot and talks smack to him as Delirious departs.
Verdict:
I thought this was a good show from top to bottom. Plus it had a little bit for everybody. The last 2 matches were both really good, Delirious/Sabin was good, Sydal/Daniels was solid, the CZW/ROH stuff was good. This is a good show to pick up during a sale.
