The best show so far in 2006 for ROH. Good early stuff, and a great main event portion of the show which leads to this being a good mix of angles and matches. Really fun show.
1. Adam Pearce beat Jay Fury. Necro Butcher hit the ring after the match and brawled with Pearce.
Pearce has done very well in ROH, and Fury is better than I remember him from Wildside. Fun little opener, and I'm loving Pearce in ROH thus far. The stuff with Necro and the toss-out was well done again and the crowd was hot for it. The angle is going well and looks kayfabed so far.
2. Jimmy Yang defeated Jay Lethal
Very good match for being so early. Yang looked great with his kicks and Lathal's cowardly character is good. I don't remember specifics here but it was given a lot of time and developed very well. Loved it.
3. Tony Mamaluke, Sal Rinauro, & Delirious defeated Jimmy Rave, Alex Shelley & Abyss
Pretty fun 6 man. A bit weaker than the other 2 matches but really got hot really early, then really late. Maybe a bit long, but the Shelley/Delirious stuff was great. 3 for 3.
4. Low Ki beat Jack Evans
Another solid match. Not a classic like some of the other "bully mismatches" in the past, but still solid for the chops and kicks Evans took. Everything Ki did has purpose and was crisp. Ki in 06 ROH has been great, too bad he had an attitude.
5. Claudio Castagnoli & Ace Steel defeated Nigel McGuinness & Chad Collyer in an Anything Goes Match
A bit long, but the best match to this point. Awesome brawl in the crowd early, and then some great tag offense keeping Collyer out and double teaming Nigel. Good strategy and good workrate that told a story. I can't ask for much more in this one.
6. Austin Aries & Roderick Strong defeated Jimmy Jacobs & BJ Whitmer to retain the ROH Tag Titles
A new best match to this point is upon us. Each man wrestled to their strengths (BJ and Strong shopped and suplexed, Aries was quick and impactful as hell, and Jimmy looked great). Jacobs stepped his offense up and played the Lacey thing like a champ. One of the better tag matches in ROH in a long time, and thats impressive.
7. Christopher Daniels beat Matt Sydal
Another match, another MOTN for me. Daniels shoot hurts his leg early on and Sydal avoids going after it. Daniels then works Sydal's neck and stays on it like a true ring general. Sydal dominates early on but then the neck gets targeted and Daniels focuses his main moves on it, all the while Sydal has Daniels BME and Angels Wings well scouted. Really well done match with a beautiful series of reversals for the awesome finish. Sydal in ROH is as good a wrestler as there is.
8. Bryan Danielson defeated AJ Styles to retain the ROH World Title
I actually enjoyed this. The first time this year Dragon has impressed me. I wasn't into it because I could care less about Dragon, but the early wrestling and intensity kept up through 45 minutes of actual holds and not as much stalling and crap as Danielson usually does. Solid main event...if you replace Danielson here with anyone else I guarentee I love this same match more, which is ashame.
Overall all 8 matches were decent or better, with a very good Lethal/Yang match, and matches 5-7 were all great. This one will be hard to top.
