Davey Richards vs. Jimmy Rave
Fantastic debut match for Davey Richards as he looked as good as any other ROH debut that I can remember. Rave also looked great in his role (as he always does). Nice to see Jimmy move into the role of being able to put people over instead of having to be put over. Can't wait to see how the rematch shapes up.
Derrick Dempsey vs. Shane Hagadorn (Top of the Class Trophy)
This was good for what it was. I like Hagadorn, just because he has a good persona and really has a natural heel charisma to him. That being said, I would almost rather have the student matches as a "bonus" on the DVD or as a feature with just highlights shown instead of full matches involving only students.
Sara Del Ray vs. Daizee Haze
Another "good for what it was" match. That being said ROH has definitely stepped up in their women's wrestling lately and the matches (even though I'm not a fan of women's wrestling) are much more watchable than what ROH has put forth in the past in their women's matches. Definitely can thank Dave Prazak for that.
Colt Cabana vs. Adam Pearce vs. Delirious vs. Jason Blade (Four Corner Survival Match)
This was a solid 4-corners match although not at the level of the better ones. Everyone looked good in this match and I'm glad to see Blade getting a look here as he was definitely the better half of his tag-team with Kid Mikaze.
Christopher Daniels vs. BJ Whitmer
Decent undercard match with a good backstory. Whitmer has really stepped up his game this year and might be the most improved wrestler I've seen this year. His ringwork just looks more believable now and he is much smoother. He has also greatly improved his mic skills. Post match Whitmer and Daniels bury their past differences.
Shingo Takagi vs. Ricky Reyes
I liked this a lot. Two guys with similar styles going toe-to-toe in a fast hard-hitting match. I think I liked it also because it was a lot different from the past four matches.
Bryan Danielson vs. Homicide (ROH World Title Match)
*Special Guest Ring Announcer- Samoa Joe
This was pretty great. Pre-match they do alot of stuff with Joe and push his mutual respect with Homicide even though they have had a ton of heat in the past and also push the upcoming Joe/Danielson showdowns. This match really reminds me of a good 1980s NWA match in it's feel/work and in it's aura. This just seems like a big time match and it delivers. Lots of good wrestling sequences in and out of the ring and it builds nicely to Cide's comeback spot and near fall before Danielson closes out Homicide as the ref is calling for the bell as Danielson pelts Homicide with elbows to the face. The ref calls for the bell due to wrestler safety since it appears that Homicide has no way out of the move. Post-match Joe and Cide are pissed that the ref made that decision. Lt Commish Adam Pearce comes down and gets Commish Jim Cornette on the cell and Cornette upholds the referee's ruling. Cide is pissed and attacks the ref. Lots of storylines here with Cide and Joe seemingly patching things up due to Homicide's recent aid to ROH in the ROH/CZW feud, Joe and Danielson is teased again, Homicide's quest to win the ROH title is again foiled and in what Homicide views as being screwed out of the title and we have the beginning of the Cornette/Homicide beef. Just a really great in-ring wrestling match combined with tons of backstory and future stories coming out of the match. This is definitely one of my favorite ROH title match this year (Top 5 so far).
Austin Aries & Roderick Strong vs. Jay & Mark Briscoe (ROH Tag Team Title Match)
Solid match but not as good as the previous one. This one was probably chosen as the Main Event because of the possibility of a bad fan reaction at the finish of the last match (wanting to send the fans home happy) and because of the desire to continue to elevate the tag-team titles. This is a good fast-paced tag match with a lot of action. I think I liked this one just a little bit better than their match at "Ring of Homicide" but they are very comparable.
Verdict:
This is a solid show with 3 matches you will want to see (Danielson/Cide, Tag-Title Match, and Rave/Richards) and the undercard is solid but unspectacular. Definitely a lot of storyline continued or set-up with this show and especially in the one match with Danielson/Cide.
