Overall another good show. Given the storms and such keeping wrestlers out, ROH stepped up and delivered a few suprises to make it special.
1. Adam Pearce vs. Pelle Primeau & Mitch Franklin
Solid squash for Pearce. I like him a lot more in ROH than I ever did in PWG. This was fun and short.
2. Colt Cabana vs. Grim Reefer with Julius Smokes
Punk's appearence sent everyone into an awesome "fuck the refund" chant. Nice idea to have him try and calm Cabana down in the Cide fued. The match itself drug a bit, but Reefer is a great fit for the Rottweilers and Cabana always improves in the ring. Decent match, well booked.
3. Ricky Reyes vs. Kid Mikaze
FUN Reyes squash. I've liked everything I've seen from Blade and Mikaze so far, where did they come from? ROH students, or somewhere else? I may be starting to like Reyes now that it seems Ki is gone and he can be more "original" since there aren't as many like him in the same place.
4. Nigel McGuiness vs. Austin Aries (ROH Pure Title Match)
The second best match I've seen in ROH this year (next to AJ/Sydal my MOTYC). Great feeling out process, and it seemed to stay on task throughout. Nigel is the best simple and basic heel as there is, and he did a good job in countering Aries main moves to force him to be quicker than he already is. The ref botched the rope breaks but it was handled well. Great match.
5. Bryan Danielson vs. Xavier with Prince Nana (ROH World Title Match)
Xavier looked good as he has in PWX this year, but American Dragon to me is the equivelent of eating turkey on thanksgiving....you go into it really happy and energized, then once you eat it you're ready to sleep, but after it's all digested you recover.
6. Jimmy Yang vs. Azrieal vs. Jerrelle Clark vs. Jason Blade (Four Corner Survival)
A little botched in the middle made this more of a cluster, but all 4 men hit some fun offense and Yang in ROH is one of the best signings they had ever made. Too bad it's over. I'm actually prefering him to Gibson if you can believe that. Clark is underrated and Blade could be a star if marketed right. This was OK.
7. Roderick Strong vs. BJ Whitmer (#1 Contender's Match)
Whitmer this year is having his best year ever thus far, and the matchups have been in his favor. This went a bit long but was still really stiff and played up the Danielson/Strong fued well.
8. Bryan Danielson & Punk vs. Jimmy Rave & Adam Pearce with Prince Nana
The match was too long and I got really bored for most of it. Certainly not what I'd call a proper goodbye for Punk on the east coast, but whatever. Awesome f'n speech making fun of some gay ROH smark at the end.
Overall, outside of the pure title match nothing stood out. Punk and X came back but their matches weren't all that good. One really good match and some good angles continued, but not too much in the way of great matches.
