Delirious vs. Seth Delay
This was up on rohvideos.com shortly after the match happened but I honestly liked it better on DVD. It's just a fun 5 minute match with both guys looking good and the match delivering on what it is supposed to. I really liked Delay here, although I'm biased since i've enjoyed him in NWA-Wildside and could love for him to get more undercard opportunities in ROH in the future.
Jimmy Rave & Sal Rinuaro vs. Colt Cabana & Jay Lethal
Just a really great undercard match that was a perfect mix of wrestling and comedy. Before the match Prince Nana introduced Sal Rinauro as the newest member of the Embassy and Prince Nana made him act as Jimmy Rave's footstool so Jimmy could get into the ring. During the match Sal did the majority of the work (or took the majority of the punishment for his team) as Rave picked his shots and opportunities. Cabana was the star of the match using his great mix of wrestling and comedy and even spoofing some of Jay Lethal's signature moves during the match. Great undercard match and it built nicely to a hot stretch run and a logical finish. Good stuff.
ROH Pure Title Match: Nigel McGuinness (c) vs. Roderick Strong
Wow. Sometimes you come across matches you might consider "hidden gems". Matches you haven't heard much about but that you totally dig. This is one of those matches. Just a great, hard hitting wrestling match that makes you wince and smile all at the same time and that makes sense in terms of where ROH is going with the Nigel character/storyline. Top notch match here and you will want to see this.
Briscoe Brothers vs. Irish Airborne
Decent match but my memory is foggy on this one.
Davey Richards vs AJ Styles
I really dug the first half of this one but the second half was pretty frustrating as they went into high impact mode and just tried to do cool moves. Fun match, but frustrating if you are a fan of psychology. Both of Richards matches against Jimmy Rave were much better IMO.
ROH TItle Match: Bryan Danielson (c) vs Sonjay Dutt
Solid match in which the crowd really gets into with the CZW and ROH fans going back and forth. Dutt doesn't look totally out of place here and Danielson dominates the majority of the match (as he should) with Dutt getting in his offense here and there.
Samoa Joe, Adam Pearce, BJ Whitmer, Ace Steel, & Bryan Danielson vs. Chris Hero, Necro Butcher, Nate Webb, Claudio Castagnoli, & Eddie Kingston (CAGE OF DEATH)
Just an insanely good match with great brawling and some wild action. Joe and Claudio start off and then the match runs like War Game with ROH with the advantage so BJ Whitmer comes in next and ROH has a 2-on-1 advantage until Chris Hero comes in and it is 2-on-2. The crowd is totally hyped during this match. So much that they don't even need commentary for the match and I don't even notice that they aren't doing commentary until about half way through. Bryan Danielson is the next in and he gets a huge pop and cleans house and then he and Joe double team Claudio and Hero. Danielson calls for Joe to give Hero a muscle buster and when he does Danielson goes behind Joe and clips his leg out from under him and then attacks him with a steel chair. Danielson leaves to a chorus of boos and Joe is carried out as Nate Webb joins the match from the CZW side. So we have gone from a 3-on-2 ROH advantage to a 3-on-1 CZW advantage with Claudio/Hero/Webb vs BJ Whitmer. What a change in momentum and the entire match. Great moment in this is when Cornette gets on the house mic and is yelling at Danielson.
Adam Pearce is in next and gets in some offense before he is overwhelmed by numbers. Necro Butcher is next for CZW and then Ace Steel is in for ROH with a cowbell to try to even the odds before Eddie Kingston for CZW comes in and we are at 5-on-3 in favor of CZW. CZW dominates and then Kingston and Hero start to get into it (they have legit beef in real life so it's a good twist) when Homicide's music hits and the fans go ape sh*t. Cide comes in and sways the moment back to ROH and from here is when it really picks up as there is pretty much non-stop action from here until the end of the match where if you aren't paying attention you will probably miss someone getting destroyed or Nate Webb being thrown through something. A couple of great moments are Homicide passing out ghetto forks to all of his ROH teammates and then they proceed to use them on their opponents, Necro running barefoot at Homicide with a chair and Cide throws thumb tacks down in front of Necro stopping him in his tracks, Pearce body pressing Webb from the ring to the outside through a table, Claudio russian legsweeping Pearce through a table from off the cage, Hero hitting a moonsault from the top of the cage taking out the ROH guys, BJ putting himself and Necro through a barbwire table, BJ killing Hero with a brainbuster on a steel chair and Homicide hitting Nate Webb with a Cop Killer onto barbwire. Just an insanely good must-see brawl.
Post-match Jim Cornette comes in to congratulate team ROH and he stays in the ring with Cide and Pearce. He tells Cide that he is going to grant Cide the 3 wishes that he requested and asks Cide what they are. First, Cide asks for a fight with Steve Corino in an ROH ring, then he asks for a guaranteed World Title Match. Cornette says yes to both and then the fans begin to chant "Low-Ki". Cide then says he wants Low-Ki back in ROH. Cornette says that he will grant Cide anything but that because (in ROH storylines) Ki is the one responsible for knocking out Cornette's front teeth backstage during a brawl. Cide says once again that he wants Ki back. Cornette then basically goes ballistic and asks Homicide if he is Homicide or Homo-cide and Cide gets pissed and spits on Cornette and then it's on as Cornette sprays a mace type substance on Cide and he and Pearce handcuff Cide to the turnbuckle and proceed to beat and whip him with Cornette's belt.
Verdict:
Overall, a fantastic Main Event and post-match scene as ROH not only delivers a great finale to their storyline for the first half of the year- ROH vs CZW and the Homicide face turn but they also lay the groundwork for the story for the second half of the year- Homicide versus Cornette and Homicide's quest to become ROH champion and also sprinkling in the Danielson/Joe stuff Ring of Honor does a fantastic job of closing on chapter of ROH and opening the next. Also, the entire card is solid up and down and the Nigel/Strong match has really gotten slept on because it was phenomenal. Overall, just a fantastic wrestling atmosphere and the matches deliver. Legitimately I could believe this being called the ROH show of the year but for now I'm going to place it as a really close 3rd (could easily see it being 2nd best upon second viewing). I think that overall the wrestling was better on the other 2 shows but the drama and storylines here and the comination was great.
