Delirious vs. Claudio Castagnoli
Solid opener. Started out great, lost a little during the middle and finished up strong.
Jimmy Rave & Sal Rinuaro vs. Colt Cabana & Ace Steel
Good little tag-match as Rave/Rinauro have great chemistry as a team as do Cabana/Ace and Cabana and Rinauro in their roles just crack me up.
Jay Briscoe vs. Jimmy Jacobs
Not only do we get Jimmy Jacobs in his pink hair and pink and black tights singing "Match of the Year" to Lacey but then we get a kick ass match. This was a really fun little sprint in which Jay Briscoe was KING SIZED and Jacobs more than held his own. Briscoe just looked great here. Spot of the match was when Briscoe hit a guerrilla slam into a Death Valley Driver, it was jaw dropping.
Mark Briscoe vs. Homicide
Solid match with a fast pace. I didn't like it as much as Jay/Jacobs but it was still good.
Austin Aries, Roderick Strong, Jack Evans, & Matt Sydal vs. Davey Richards, Jerrelle Clark, & Irish Airborne (Generation Next's Last Stand)
This was a really fun spotfest in the spirit of the old ROH Scramble matches. Fantastically fun closing sequence and they finished the match hot. Some great spots including 4 guys standing on separate corners at one time and Jack Evans and Jerrelle Clark hitting stereo 630s and then Matt Sydal and Davey Richards hitting stereo 450s. Huge dives in the match and Davey Richards fucking KILLED Jack Evans with a double underhook brainbuster that was just SICK.
Christopher Daniels vs. Christian Cage
Pretty much what you would expect but the match felt surprisingly short. 10 minutes of promos followed by about 10 minutes of solid but bland wrestling.
Bryan Danielson vs. Nigel McGuinness (ROH World Title Match)
Great storylines going into this match as we have 2 ROH champions who have gone through 2006 and been able to hold onto their belts and have dominated their titles. We also have a rematch from a match earlier in 2006 where McGuinness got the win over Danielson via countout successfully defending his Pure Title. This match was really good with a great build. Match started out pretty slowly with both guys feeling their way and trying not to make any mistakes as they traded a lot of mat work, holds and counters. Match built into Nigel really being in control (which is different from the majority of Danielson's title matches where he usually dictates the tempo) and to a certain extent dominating Danielson. The finish (here is where you should stop reading if you wish to avoid a spoiler for something that happened over half a year ago) was really smart as McGuinness murdered Danielson with a lariat (wish wasn't the first time in the match that he just destroyed Danielson with this move) and Danielson rolled out of the ring and then went under the ring. Danielson came up on the other side as McGuinness was waiting for him to come back into the ring from the side that he left. McGuinness then turned around and Danielson pinned him with a small package. Really great finish in that it shows that Danielson had to use his resourcefulness to beat McGuinness and hasn't proven that he can beat Nigel man on man so it allows room for the series of matches to continue. Good stuff.
Verdict:
I was extremely pleased with this show as it was solid from top to bottom with some surprises (Jay vs Jimmy), a really fun spotfest (4-man tag) and a Great Main Event. Recommended.
