Show starts with a Briscoes promo. It's time to Man Up!
Oh boy, this is the show that happened in the tent!
Rhett Titus and Pelle Primeau vs Dunn and Marcos
Short competitive squash. Fans chant "Welcome Back" to Dunn and Marcos.
Claudio and Chris Hero hit the ringside area and Hero is looking for a mic. Fans chant "Fuck You Hero". Hero says that they are the best tag-team in wrestling and challenges Dunn and Marcos.
Dunn and Marcos vs Kings of Wrestling (Chris Hero and Claudio Castagnoli)
D&M hit stereo dives to start the match. Looks like that about all the offense D&M is gonna get as KOW start to dominate and win with their innovative brand of tag-team wrestling.
Thirteen minutes into the DVD and we've already had 2 matches.
Chris Daniels is backstage and he talks about his match tonight with Nigel McGuinness and recalls Nigel cheating to beat him by countout to keep his Pure title a while back. He also talks about the change in Nigel and how he has become a valiant fighter. Daniels wonders if he's facing the shortcut Nigel or the never-say-die Nigel. Daniels doesn't care. He says the fans have forgotten about God's Gift to Professional Wrestling, they've forget about Christopher Daniels. But tonight he will remind them.
Nigel McGuinness cuts a promo saying that shortcut Nigel and never-say-die Nigel is one and the same and that he's going to bring everything tonight and tomorrow night for his GHC Title Match.
Jimmy Jacobs music hits and I feel a little tremble of excitement.
Jimmy Jacobs w/Lacey vs Ricky Reyes vs Jack Evans vs Colt Cabana
Before the match starts Cabana has the ring announcer announce that he and Lacey did not reach third base in the bushes 45 minutes ago. Crowd chants "Yes, you did" and Jacobs looks pissed. Colt then comes up and pats Lacey on the rear. Jack entertains himself with a standing backflip.
The Cabana/Jacobs interaction during this match was pretty great with Colt being a goof-off and Jacobs taking everything he did like a dagger. Overall a fun, decent match that had the crowd throughout.
Christopher Daniels vs Nigel McGuinness
Good solid match with good crowd heat and a great finish from Nigel McGuinness as he flipped Daniels belly first on the middle of the ropes and then grabbed him and hit the Tower of London on him (which he usually hits from the corner) for the 1-2-3. Nice variation on one of his signature moves for kind of a surprise finish.
Samoa Joe is backstage and cuts a promo about Glory By Honor (where he first debuted). He talks about Roderick Strong. After the promo Morishima is introduced to Joe and they shake hands.
Davey Richards vs. Austin Aries
I've always thought (since I first saw Davey Richards) that he was stylistically very similar to Austin Aries (the announcers also point this out) so this is definitely going to be an interesting match. Overall, solid but uneventful. Weird close finish towards the end where Aries nails and Brainbuster and I swear he got 3 but they keep wrestling, Davey gets a couple of near falls and then Aries nails another brainbuster for the 1-2-3. Solid enough match especially considering that Aries was still nursing an injury but nothing to go out of your way to see.
GMC is backstage with Lacey, Jimmy Jacobs and Colt Cabana. Lacey is all about getting wins and Cabana is all about getting "something". Cabana says that he'll take her on date to "Steak and Shake" and she leaves with Cabana as Jacobs follows behind them.
Shane Hagadorn vs Delirious
Hagadorn's tatoo is hideous. That being said, he's a perfectly acceptable lower card heel. Perfectly fine competitive squash.
Roderick Strong vs Samoa Joe
This match happens due to Strong pinning Joe a couple of shows back in a tag-match and Joe wanting to get his win back in a singles match. Good start as they take it easy playing off of Roderick's chops and having Joe avoid them and then finally hit a couple. Joe retaliates a bit later with some stiff kicks that floor Roderick. Good play so far on putting both these guys over as hard hitters. Lots of back and forth hard hitting action. Good slugfest. Joe finally finishes off Roderick with a sick Island Driver from the top rope that gets a huge pop and a "Holy sh*t" chant. Really good match, great finish.
Jay and Mark Briscoe vs KENTA and Naomichi Marufuji
They show a quick highlight from the Throwdown and Chi-Town Struggle events with altercations between KENTA and the Briscoes to set this one up.
Briscoes go to shake hands at the beginning of the match but KENTA gives them the middle finger instead. Good match that really peaks in the last five minutes with an incredible stretch run of spots by all four guys. Really great closing 5 minutes that really puts this match over the top. Really good and fun match to close out the show.
Verdict:
Solid show with a somewhat uneventful (but decent) undercard and peaked with the final 2 matches which definitely delivered. This is definitely a show that I would recommend picking up during a sale.
