Roderick Strong backstage promo starts us off and Roderick tells Jack Evans that he is the one who attacked Jack and says that he used Jack and says that he will make an example of Pac tonight to show what he can do to people like Jack.
Jimmy Jacobs cuts a promo and talks about not having Lacey with him this weekend. Says that Lacey gave him a job to take out Colt Cabana or BJ Whitmer.
Davey Richards vs Homicide w/Julius Smokes
Decent match. Davey's starting to show some heel charisma but Homicide is totally wasting away in the post-title face run. He was great in his role in 2006 and the crowd is still into him but he's doing nothing for me at this point. A little too long for an opener although it was competitive and the crowd was into it. Davey gets heckled on the way out.
Sara del Rey vs Allison Danger
Real solid women's wrestling match. Del Ray is pretty much the best American woman wrestler I've seen.
Briscoes cut a backstage promo and say that they are going to hold the tag-belts as long as they want to.
Jimmy Rave and Jimmy Jacobs vs Colt Cabana and BJ Whitmer
They start off brawling through the crowd. They use a pretty cool little picture in picture effect to show both sets of guys fighting at times. Pretty solid undercard match.
Delirious vs Matt Sydal- 2 out of 3 falls
Really solid first fall with a lot of back and forth action- I would put this fall above their match from St Paul last year. Sydal has to resort to using cheap tactics to get the first fall and then attacks Delirious before the rest period before falls is over to gain another advantage going into the second fall. Delirious works back into the match and gets Sydal to tap to win fall 2. Sydal takes this one one. Solid match.
Allison Danger and Sara del Ray cut a promo backstage and put over women's wrestling. They are interrupted by two British women who challenge them to a tag-team match on the next show.
Roderick Strong FIP highlights are shown next.
FIP Title Match: Roderick Strong (c) vs Pac
Really great start to the match with Strong playing the lead and controlling the match and Pac playing off of him. Kinda falls apart a little bit towards the middle with some mis-timings of Pac's spots and Strong not controlling the match as much as previously. Fantastic closing sequence by Strong who capitalized on Pac's spot addiction by KILLING him with some power moves. Overall, a really fun match and Pac looked much better here than in the matches I had previously seen him in. He's still very green and needs to be reeled in but this was a lot of fun. Strong continues his attack after the match and Delirious chases Strong away.
Jimmy Jacobs cuts a backstage promo. Says he pinned Whitmer but it was hollow and his only mission is to take one of them out tonight. He calls for a ref and tells the ref to go tell Whitmer that he's in the basement of the arena and ready to fight.
ROH Tag-Title Match: Jay and Mark Briscoe (c) vs Naruki Doi and Shingo
This was pretty great. Over 20 minutes of fast paced high impact action with a surprising finish. Really top notch stuff here and one of my favorite ROH matches this year.
Post match Briscoes get on the mic and express their disappointment on losing the belts in their first title defense after chasing after the titles for so long. Jay challenges Mark to a match for the next night.
Nigel McGuinness vs Samoa Joe
Really good match. Rewind moment of the match comes when Joe gives Nigel a Muscle Buster on the ring apron! Just an incredible spot. Nigel is out and he is helped to the back as he is going to the back Joe gets on the mic and calls him back to the ring. Nigel limps to the ring holding the back of his neck. Joe reaches out to shake Nigel's hand and Nigel destroys him with a slap which leads to Joe punches which leads to some heated wrestling. Joe hits another Muscle Buster but Nigel kicks out of this one to a HUGE pop from the crowd. Joe murders Nigel with a lariat but he kicks out again! A standing lariat by Joe gets only a 1 count. Nigel hits a rebound roll-up for a near fall 2 and then Joe clamps in the choke but Nigel uses his weight to get a 2 count. Crowd chants "Please don't tap" but Nigel passes out in the choke. Really good match with a really hot finish. Crowd was really up for this match.
Joe cuts his usual post-match Fifth Year Festival promo. Joe puts Nigel over and says that he is leaving the company in good hands with Nigel. Crowd chants "ROH" and Nigel and Joe leave together.
Jimmy Jacobs is shown in the basement calling out BJ Whitmer and Whitmer shows up and they brawl to end the DVD.
Verdict:
Really good show. Undercard was solid but unspectacular but the last 3 matches really delivered. Strong vs Pac was a pleasant surprise and the last two matches were two of the better ROH matches this year. They would probably both rank in the Top 5 ROH matches to this point. Delirious/Sydal was also pretty solid. You will definitely want to pick this one up. Out of the first 7 ROH shows of 2007 this one is the best so far.
