Motor City Madness
Detroit, MI 10/7/06
Samoa Joe opens up the show and cuts a promo on Bryan Danielson for hitting him with the ROH title at the last show and says that he is going to take it out on the Briscoes tonight.
Homicide follows this up by cutting a promo about Jim Cornette and The Briscoes. Also, mentions that he is going to kick Steve Corino and Adam Pearce's ass.
Next up is an Austin Aries vs Bryan Danielson video package hyping their title match for tonight.
Delirious vs Zach Gowen
I'm not a big fan of Gowen but he did do a nice springboard somersault move to the outside on Delirious. Overall this was okay. It was kept short and that's a good thing.
Midnight Express theme hits and out comes Jim Cornette. Cornette announces that ROH will be here in Detroit for Wrestlemania weekend. Cornette goes on to say that Roderick Strong wants to wrestle tonight but he is not cleared by the doctor due to a back injury last night. Strong comes out to the ring. Strong says he came here to wrestle tonight and demands to wrestle. Strong and Cornette get into a heated discussion and Homicide's music hits. The fans pop. And Cide runs Cornette out. Cide gets on the mic and says he's having a bad day, calls the fans assholes because their Tigers beat the Yankees today. He says it's all good. Short Cide promo- just basically out to run off Cornette.
Mschif and Daizee Haze vs Lacey and Allison Danger
This was okay. Went a little long.
Davey Richards vs Claudio Castagnoli
Double C enters through the crowd with his ROH and CHIKARA tag-team titles in tow. Good solid back and forth match as would be expected with Claudio in the ring. Hero and Claudio combine to cheat to win. Pretty good stuff here.
Hero gets on the stick and puts KOW over as the best tag-team in professional wrestling and says that "Kings reign supreme".
Colt Cabana and Jimmy Jacobs w/Lacey vs Christopher Daniels and Matt Sydal
Decent match. Kind of by the numbers. Jacobs takes the fall to continue the Cabana/Lacey/Jacobs storyline.
BJ Whitmer hits the ring after the match and brawls with Jacobs momentarily before Cabana, Sydal and Daniels pull them apart. Whitmer gets on the mic and says that Jacobs may think that he ended this feud but all he did was put gasoline on the fire. Says he took away his ability to put food on his table and the thing he loves most which is the sport of professional wrestling. Whitmer says that until BJ is cleared by the doctors he hopes Jacobs has eyes in the back of his head because he is going to be his shadow. Whitmer says that when he is cleared by the doctors he is going to put Jacobs on the shelf and out of pro wrestling forever.
Daniels then picks up the mic and talks about the Kings of Wrestling. Daniels says that they are a fluke team and have only beaten one team. Tells them to put the belts up against him and Sydal. Chris Hero responds from the back of the arena. Says the tag-belts mean they are the best and says that Daniels/Sydal have done nothing to prove themselves for a title shot ("What had Christopher Daniels ever done? What has Matt Sydal ever done?"). Sydal gets on the mic and says that Daniels has proved himself for the last 8-10 years. Sydal says that if Hero has questions about Sydal's merits why doesn't he step in the ring right now and Sydal can earn his merit. Hero says he doesn't think so and heads out of the building. Sydal goads him. Daniels gets on the mic and says Hero was never really good enough to get booked in ROH. Hero takes exception
Matt Sydal vs Chris Hero
Hero gets in the ring and takes it right to Sydal. Sydal counters with his quickness and high flying moves and Hero takes a break outside of the ring. Sydal hits a nice moonsault to the outside but Hero catches him and throws him onto the edge of the ring "Hot Shot" style. Hero then brings the action back into the ring and dominates and plays to the crowd with his awesome taunts and showboat moves. Hero tries for one too many showboat moves and Sydal grabs the momentum back and goes on offense. Claudio comes down and tries to cheat to win with Hero but Daniels stops him and they brawl to the back. Sydal hits the SSP for the win over Hero to the joy of the fans. Good solid angle and match and sets up Sydal/Daniels vs Kings of Wrestling for a future match.
The next segment starts with Dave Prazak in the ring and Jim Cornette comes out and takes the mic. Cornette says he didn't plan to come out but a kid asked him backstage why he ran from Homicide earlier. Cornette then cuts a promo on Homicide. Some guy in the crowd flicks him off and Cornette asks the guy if that's his IQ that he is showing him. Cornette takes off his jacket and calls out Homicide. Cide comes in and sets him up for the Cop Killer but then the Briscoes attack. Joe comes down and runs off Briscoes and Cornette. Cide gets on the mic and runs down the Briscoes and says that he and Joe will take them on tonight with no rules. Joe gets on the mic and agrees and says that tonight they have themselves a street fight.
Intermission time and Dave Prazak is backstage to interview Delirious. Delirious cuts a promo in gibberish. He talks about Austin Aries, Bryan Danielson, and the World Championship.
Six Man Mayhem: Matt Cross vs Pelle Primeau vs Shane Hagadorn vs Jake Crist vs Dave Crist vs Jimmy Rave
This was pretty much what you would expect from a Six Man Mayhem match, it was a lot of fun. Matt Cross has really improved over the last 2-3 years. When I first saw him in PWG I thought he was horrible but now he has really blossomed. He's still all about the spots but he places them better in matches and eases into them instead of having to wait and set up for everything. Oh yeah and Pelle rules.
ROH Title Match: Bryan Danielson (c) vs Austin Aries
Danielson no doubt has the greatest theme music in wrestling. It always makes his entrance seem special IMO. Overall this was a really solid match. Finish kind of came out of nowhere but it worked based on some of Danielson's previous defenses.
Post-match Samoa Joe's theme music hits and Joe runs into the ring and he goes toe-to-toe with Danielson and takes him out with a clothesline. The Briscoes then hit the ring and begin to double-team Joe. Homicide hits the ring and the Main Event starts.
Anything Goes, Falls Count Anywhere: Jay and Mark Briscoe vs Homicide and Samoa Joe
Big sprawling brawl once they get out into the crowd. Lots of chairshots, chair throwing and fighting in the crowd. Joe hits a powerslam through a sitting chair on one of the Briscoes (who was running at Joe). They brawl outside the building and the fans follow them outside. Joe and Cide pretty much destroying the Briscoes. Throwing them into the building and into the equipment truck. Joe hits a Razor's Edge type move on one of the Briscoes into the side of the truck (this looked pretty sick). Mark Briscoe (I think it was Mark) does an AMAZING Shooting Star Press off the top of the truck and takes out Joe and about 3 or 4 other guys. Cide takes a powerbomb onto a table that was randomly set up outside and then they do a double team move and put him through the table. Great stuff while they were outside. The Briscoes and Homicide make it back into the ring where they continue the match. Lots of reversals lead to a double team springboard spike Jay Driller and the win for the Briscoes. All 3 guys basically worn out in the ring after the match. Really good brawl/fight. Crowd chants "That Was Awesome" and Jay Briscoe gets on the mic and says that is the stupidest f'n chant he's ever heard. He says f all you people, f Homicide, f Samoa Joe and f Detroit and puts the Briscoes over as the best tag-team. Man Up!
Dave Prazak catches up with Jimmy Rave backstage and asks him what's up with The Embassy now that Prince Nana is done with Ring Of Honor. Rave just leaves leaving behind his purple Embassy robe with no comment.
Verdict:
This was a solid show with a great brawl to finish it off but nothing really stand-out besides that. This is a show that if you watch it you will enjoy it but it's not one of the best of the year.
