Suffocation- Dayton, OH 10/27/06
Show starts off with Homicide and Samoa Joe backstage and they cut a promo on Adam Pearce, Steve Corino and The Briscoes. Cide says to forget about the MegaPowers and The Freebirds, he and Joe are the force in Professional Wrestling. Pretty much all Joe says is "blatttttt!"
Austin Aires cuts a promo on Claudio Castagnoli and talks about losing the tag-straps. Aries says he will get his revenge tonight.
Non-Title Match: Sal Rinauro w/Jimmy Rave vs Bryan Danielson
As they come out together you can hear Rave telling Sal not to screw anything up. "Final Countdown" hits and ROH champion Bryan Danielson comes to the ring. Somehow I think Rinauro is gonna screw this one up. This was a solid match but Danielson was just too much for Sal as he eventually got to him with his repeated elbow strikes and then pulled him up and small packaged him for the win. Rave looked pretty pissed outside the ring.
Post-match Rave gets in Sal's face, slaps him and tosses him from the ring. Rave then calls out Shingo.
Jimmy Rave vs Shingo
This was solid but went a little long and lost the crowd after a bit.
Brent Albright cuts a backstage promo talking about his debut tonight and his match with Christopher Daniels.
Irish Airborne vs Colt Cabana and Jimmy Jacobs w/Lacey
BJ Whitmer interrupts before the match as he has a microphone and is on one of ROH's camera stands. Whitmer talks about Jimmy breaking his leg and says that he's not going to break Jimmy's leg he's gonna break his neck. Whitmer tells Jimmy to keep looking over his shoulder. Another solid match. Nothing great, but nothing bad. Lukewarm crowd heat again pulled the match down a little bit. Airborne pick up what has to be a surprise victory when IA reverses the Contra Code into a roll-up for the victory out of nowhere. Jacobs takes the fall and Lacey isn't going to like that.
Tank Toland cuts a backstage promo saying that he has a lot to prove and he is going to make a name for himself. Post-promo Toland is approach by Pelle Primeau who says that he knows him from the Dicks and that he is awesome. Toland grabs him by the throat and tells him to understand that the name is Tank Toland "21st Century Wrecking Machine".
Brent Albright vs Christopher Daniels
This was a solid match but like most Daniels stuff from 2006 it just sort of seemed to be there. Albright definitely held his own and I look forward to seeing how he progresses in ROH.
Tank Toland vs Mark Briscoe vs Roderick Strong vs Chris Hero
This was fun. It's definitely interesting seeing Roderick and Mark team up to do a tag-team move. Overall a good fun match as most of the ROH 4-ways are.
Post-match Claudio hits the ring and he and Hero double-team Roderick. Kings of Wrestling gloat and continue the beatdown until Austin Aries hits the ring which leads us into the next match as the ring clears except for Aries and Claudio and the bell rings...
Austin Aries vs Claudio Castagnoli
Quick start to this one as Aries hits his bottom rope torpedo dive within the first minute of the match. This ended up being another solid match. Hero attacks Aries post-match and KOW double-team Aries until Roderick comes down to make the save and runs them off.
Lacey and Jimmy Jacobs are backstage and Lacey is reading Jimmy the riot act about not winning matches. She then uses Colt Cabana to get under Jimmy's skin but Cabana is kind of bewildered by it. Out of nowhere Whitmer comes in and gores Jacobs through a security exit door.
Davey Richards vs Jay Briscoe
Good hard hitting match here.
Next up an FIP hype video is shown.
Matt Sydal vs Delirious
These two mesh really well together so this is yet another solid match. A lot of solid but not great wrestling on this show- crowd is pretty dead but pops for spots which hurts the matches a little bit. Funny spot in this match as the crowd is chanting "Matt Sydal" and Delirious blurts out "Colt Cabana" and chants his name which draws a pop and Matt Sydal questioning the ref if Delirious knows who he is wrestling. Seems like this one went about 5-10 minutes or so too long as I really liked the first 10 minutes or so but it seemed like they were kind of dragging along as the match went further. Would have probably benefited from being a little shorter and tighter, I still enjoyed it though and liked it more than Daniels/Albright or Jay/Davey.
Midnight Express theme hits and it mixes with Adam Pearce's music and out comes Jim Cornette, Adam Perace, Steve Corino and Shane Hagadorn. Cornette takes the mic and plays heel. Says he's got the guys who are going to take out Homicide. Pearce takes the mic and introduces Steve Corino. Corino gets on the mic and heels the crowd and calls out Homicide.
Adam Pearce and Steve Corino w/Jim Cornette and Shane Hagadorn vs Homicide and Samoa Joe
The announcers put this one over as being under "relaxed rules" meaning that the ref is going to let a lot of stuff go that he normally wouldn't. Solid match really heats up with Cide and Corino going toe-to-toe in the center of the ring and then Cide hitting his Tope Con Hilo. This is followed up with brawling in the crowd and bleachers with Cide/Corino and Pearce/Joe paired off. Cide does a dive from the top rope to put Corino through a table (Corino was laid out on the table). Joe takes a chair to Pearce. Joe and Cide are pretty much dominating and have dominated throughout. Cide and Joe get a hold of the tennis racket and inflict damage. Cide covers Pearce and gets a 2 but it's broken up by Hagadorn. Hagadorn then eats a combo clothesline/backdrop driver but Cornette gets his racket back and nails Homicide which swings the momentum briefly back to Pearce/Corino but Cornio gets power bombed through a table by Joe and then Pearce gets hit with a Muscle Buster. Joe stands Pearce up and Cide nails him with a lariot for the win. Good, fun brawl that was pretty one-sided.
Post-match Joe takes Hagadorn backstage to beat on him and then the Briscoes hit the ring and jump Homicide. Cide fights them off but Corino and Pearce get back in it and it's 5 on 1 (including Cornette). Bricoes are guarding the aisle way and Corino, Pearce and Cornette are in the ring trying to suffocate Cide with a plastic bag. Aries and Strong try to come out and save Cide but they can't break though. Sydal and Delirious finally break though and Davey Richards comes down as well. Cide eventually gets to his feet as the show ends.
Verdict:
Overall this is a very solid show up and down the line-up. Everything was good but nothing was great- which has been the story of the last 3 shows (Motor City Madness, SOTF and this one) after the greatness that was Glory By Honor V Night 2.
