Honor Reclaims Boston- Braintree, MA 11/3/06
Nigel McGuinness vs. John Walters
This was a decent opener. Nigel dominated most of the match but it built nicely to a Walters comeback and since he was the hometown guy the crowd popped for it when he hit a big spinebuster move. This one had a really nice stretch run with the crowd really coming alive to close the match out nicely. Nice to see a "ROH" chant in the first match. Walters looked Ok, if you liked him in the past he was pretty much the same. So if you didn't like him in the past.....Good opener.
Lacey is backstage and she is cutting a promo. Says she told Jimmy Jacobs to stay home tonight and not even show up. Questions why there is a woman's match on the card tonight that she isn't in. Says she is the greatest woman's wrestler in the world. Talks about BJ Whitmer making his comeback tonight- says it will be short lived. Talks about Colt Cabana and says that if he isn't careful he will end up like BJ Whitmer.
Daizee Haze vs. Mercedez Martinez
I like Martinez a lot, she's really solid and Daizee is always pretty decent so this was really good as far as women's wrestling goes. Would love to see Martinez and Sara del Rey mix it up one day in an ROH ring.
Lacey hits the ring after the match and confronts Daizee Haze. Tells her she is pathetic and doesn't deserve to be in an ROH ring and then slaps her and leaves.
Christopher Daniels w/Allison Danger and Matt Sydal vs. Chris Hero w/Claudio Castagnoli
Back in 2002/2003 this would have been an indy dream match Main Event. Now it's the 3rd match on an ROH show. How times have changed. Really solid stuff at the beginning as the crowd is really into this and Daniels and Hero are having some nice exchanges. Hero upstages Daniels and starts gloating and doing his awesome taunts around the ring and then he gets slapped out of the ring by Daniels. Great sequence. Overall this is what you would expect from these two guys and was a really solid encounter and furthered the Sydal/Daniels vs Claudio/Hero angle. This match goes right into the next match as Daniels and Hero fight through the crowd and Sydal and Claudio are left in the ring...
Matt Sydal vs. Claudio Castagnoli
Good fast paced match. Move of the match comes towards the end when Sydal leaps from the top rope and tries to hit a tornado DDT but Claudio catches him, throws him into the air and then destroys him with a European uppercut. I liked this match a lot. There were a couple of awkward sequences but overall this was really fun.
Backstage Austin Aries and Roderick Strong hype their match tonight with KENTA and Davey Richards.
Samoa Joe, Homicide, & BJ Whitmer vs. The Briscoes & Steve Corino
Corino is pimping some sweet pink tights. Wow! P-Force in the house. Joe, Cide and Whitmer hit the ring and Corino and Cide immediately face off and are going at it toe-to-toe. This was a really solid match/brawl. Not quite that Main Event feel but it definitely worked for it's spot in the card and the crowd enjoyed it.
Post-match Corino gets on the mic and tells the fans to get a good look at Homicide because this is going to be the last that they see of him (hyping their singles match for the next night).
Backstage promo with Christopher Daniels, Matt Sydal and Allison Danger. Daniels teaches us a lesson on the chalkboard. He says Lords are greater than Kings and that he and Sydal will beat the Kings of Wrestling.
Colt Cabana vs. Jimmy Rave
Rave comes out with some new generic theme music since the Embassy has been disbanded but he still gets pelted with toilet paper. Real solid match and it furthers Rave's storyline of not being able to get a victory without The Embassy.
Bryan Danielson vs. Delirious (ROH World Title Match)
This match starts out a lot more evenly than the other Danielson/Delirious matches. Announcers put over Delirious's improvement over the last several months. They also put over Danielson and his toughness for defending the title through his injury but also pointing out that he has cut back on his title defenses to once per month due to the injury. Danielson though inevitably gains the upperhand and takes control of the match which leads to some nice Delirious comeback sequences. This was really good. Pretty much on par with the other Danielson/Delirious matches, if you liked those you will like this.
Daizee Haze cuts a short backstage promo on Lacey.
Austin Aries & Roderick Strong vs. KENTA & Davey Richards
Match really gets going about 5 minutes in with a great hard-hitting sequence with KENTA getting the best of Aries. KENTA then gets the best of Strong...I see a pattern here. Richards tags in and tries to do the same but Aries and Strong use their teamwork to start to work on the "protege" of the team. This leads to the hot tag to KENTA but eventually the teamwork of Strong/Aries overtakes the Japanese superstar. KENTA battles back and then they do some nice sequences which leads to a lay-out sequence with everyone hitting some big moves. Aries hits his torpedo dive throught the bottom and middle ropes to take out Richards and then KENTA hits a high cross body from the top to the floor and takes out Aries and Strong. They battle back and forth and this leads to KENTA jumping onto the top rope and hitting a falcon arrow on Aries to a huge pop. Fans chant "ROH" as Richards tries a SSP but instead eats Aries knees. Aries and Strong do a sick combo on Richards and cap it off with a 450. Really good match that was somewhat by the numbers but it worked and the crowd ate it up.
Post-match Aries gets on the mic and puts over KENTA and Davey and then tells Claudio and Hero that tomorrow night they are taking back their belts.
Backstage Konnan cuts a short promo saying he's coming to ROH soon because he has Homicide's back.
Jimmy Rave is up next backstage and talks about being disrespected by the fans throwing toilet paper at him and that something is going to have to change right now.
Verdict:
This was definitely the best show from 2006 that I've reviewed since Glory By Honor V Night 2. Really solid up and down and a little higher on the match quality than the last 3 shows IMO. Real solid undercard in Sydal/Claudio, 6-man and Delirious/
