This Means War II- Long Island, NY 4/13/
Daizee Haze starts us off with a short promo on Lacey and then hypes her match tonight against Sara Del Rey.
Kevin Steen vs. Pelle Primeau
This was fun. Pelle is a ton of fun to watch and Steen excels when he just gets to play the power guy. Good opener that utilized both guys well and they both looked good.
Daizee Haze vs. Sara Del Rey
This was solid.
Briscoes are backstage and Mark wants to make their first defense of their newly won titles but Jay tells him that he still needs to recover from his concussion and that he's taking on Claudio in singles action later on.
Erick Stevens vs. Jason Blade vs. Eddie Edwards vs. El Generico (Four Corner Survival)
This was a fun fast paced match. Pretty much everyone looked good here and the crowd dug it.
Post-match Austin Aries music hits and that means that he's coming to the ring. Aries congratulates the guys on a good match. He says he has something to address and asks the guys to leave except for Eric Stevens. He tells El Generico "maybe next time". Aries asks ES to join his group and ES says that "It will be an honor". Roderick Strong interrupts as he is at the ring entrance with a mic and asks Eric if this is really the decision that he wants to make tonight. He asks Eric "as a friend" if he really wants to do this. Rocky Romero and Davey Richards hit the ring and attack Aries and ES from behind and then Roddy joins them at ringside and they brawl. Matt Cross comes down and does a flippy dive to even the sides.
Delirious vs. Colt Cabana
The crowd chants "Please Don't Go" and then "Thank You Colt" to Cabana before the match starts. This was pretty much what you would expect from these two- it was really fun.
Jay Briscoe vs. Claudio Castagnoli
Another solid match. Pretty much everything has been good so far but nothing really putting the show over the top. Just good, fun wrestling.
Claudio gets on the stick after his victory and says that he deserves a title shot with his partner of choice. Mark Briscoe says he will get one when Mark is ready to wrestle. Kevin Steen and El Generico storm the ring and grab the mic. Steen says that they were "this close" and holds up his fingers and says that it was a hell of a lot closer than Mark was to hitting that shooting star a couple of weeks ago. Steen says that they have their contenders right here. Mark gets on the mic and says that they've already beaten Steen/Generico and says that it shouldn't be too hard to do it again and he says they have their title shot too. Mark turns his back and Steen nails him in the back of his head. Jay clears Steen/Generico out of the ring and he and Claudio get into a shoving match until Claudio leaves the ring. Claudio then gets into a shoving match with Generico/Steen in the aisle way and then Claudio/Jay/Steen/Generico briefly brawl.
Brent Albright vs. Homicide
This was OK and fit in nicely with the rest of the show. Interesting part was putting Albright over Homicide (seems like this isn't the first thing). Cide is obviously on his way out at this point and Albright is on his way up so it makes sense it just seems strange since Cide was booked so strongly last year as part of his championship challenge angle.
Rebecca Bayless is backstage and she says that Mark Briscoe had to be taken to the hospital due to the attack by Kevin Steen. Then she interviews Larry Sweeney with Chris Hero and Tank Toland.
Jack Evans vs. Shingo
Yet another solid but unspectacular match.
Good, solid show far that really hinges on the last two matches to seal the fate for this show.
Roderick Strong, Davey Richards & Rocky Romero vs. Austin Aries, Matt Cross & Erick Stevens (Six Man Elimination Match)
Good fun match earlier on. The first elimination was ES and he had wrestled in the 4-way earlier so it made sense. ES got in some really good offense on a hot-tag right before he went down. The rest of the match pretty much goes the same way with NRC setting the tone and The Resilience fighting back in spurts. Dominant performance from the NRC. Solid match. Delirious comes in post-match and runs off the NRC.
Rebecca Bayless is backstage with Sara del Rey and Sara says that Daizee got lucky tonight and she wants a re-match to prove that she is the best women's wrestler in the world.
Nigel McGuinness & Doug Williams vs. Takeshi Morishima & Chris Hero
Another good solid match. This would have probably played better as a semi-Main Event than as the Main Event as it was really just a set up for the next night and Nigel vs Morishima. Hiro was pretty great here pulling out moves from different NOAH guys- hitting a Taue chokeslam and a Marufuji Shirnaui and other various moves. Nigel takes the fall in this one but doesn't pin Morishima so they set up the match for the next night with Nigel with some momentum but not with the feeling that he can stop Morishima. Post-match they do a mini-stare down with Morishima holding up the belt and then leaving Nigel and Doug in the ring to celebrate.
Verdict:
Really solid show. This was probably my favorite Long Island show that I can remember but that's not saying much. This was definitely the best Long Island crowd ever and that always makes for a better show. Up and down the card this was solid but nothing that you have to go out of your way to see.
