Good Times, Great Memories- Chicago Ridge, IL 4/28/07 (DVD)
Jimmy Jacobs starts us off with a backstage promo. Talks about his cage match with BJ Whitmer and the injuries he sustained and that it will leave scars on his body for the rest of his life. Says the match changed him for the rest of his life. But more importantly it changed him emotionally for the better. After the match Lacey came up to him and offered him one night with her. Says anyone else would have taken her up on it but he didn't. He says he really, really wanted to but he knew it was just one night and says he's worked too hard for just one night. Says the frat mentality in the locker room is not what he is about. Pulls out a pill case and shakes it up and says that this is not his latest addiction. Opens the bottle and out comes half his tooth that he lost in the Whitmer cage match. He takes off his knee bandage and shows his scars from his knee and says it will look like that forever. A torn ACL, a torn meniscus, bruisers, scars, inflammation. Says he didn't deal with this to have one night. Says it's not about a one night stand and another notch in his bedpost. Says it's nothing, meaningless. Says it takes a man with balls, bigger than the Neanderthals in the locker room, to love. Says that the first time with Lacey will be about consummating their love and says that he loves Lacey with everyone that he has. Says he feels it's coming close and she is this far from loving him too. Says he is taking this time to romance the woman that he loves and he believes will love him to. Says Lacey and he will be together not because of lust but because of love. Great 6 minute promo.
Delirious vs. Gran Akuma vs. Mike Quackenbush vs. Pelle Primeau vs. Hallowicked vs. Jigsaw (Six Man Mayhem)
This was solid. Great interaction between Delirious and Hallowicked who come to a meeting of the minds due to wearing masks and the same colors. Quack looked great and they did a great dive where he took out two guys. I really liked the energy of this match as it was a perfect opener and I like the style that the CHIKARA guys bring as it's different and fresh when you compare it with some of the current roster. Delirious and Pelle fit in perfectly and this match was real solid and got the show started off on a solid note.
After the match they do a flashback video from one of Colt Cabana and CM Punk's first shows.
Christopher Daniels w/Allison Danger vs. Erick Stevens
Crowd is up for this match as we have dueling "Fallen Angel" and "Let's Go Stevens" chants before the bell rings. As much as I feel Daniels has become stale you can't deny his connection with the fans- he always gets a good reaction/pop no matter where he is. Stevens has got a real good blend of strength and agility and controls the early part of the match. Daniels controls the middle portion of the match. I think this match breaks down for as the following- not so hot when Daniels is on offense, pretty good when Stevens is on offense. This was the typical Daniels- you get your offense in, then i'll get mine, then you get yours style match. If you like that you'll like this. Personally, I thought this was decent. I continue to be impressed with ES and I'm looking forward to seeing more of his work in ROH. They actually did a 15-minute draw here which I thought was surprising as I was expecting Daniels to take this one home. Stevens had the advantage and momentum going toward the finish.
Post-match Erick Stevens gets on the stick and puts over Daniels and asks for 5 more minutes. Says to give him and the people want they want. Daniels gets on the stick and asks the fans if they want 5 more minutes. He tells Stevens "No". He pulls veterans status and tells ES to vacate the ring because he has something to say. Daniels said it's been 2 years since he's been back in ROH and he says that he should have never come back (hey, we agree on something!). Says when he was gone he fought to come back everyday. Says that know that he is back says that the fans don't even care. Says he is taken for granted by the company and by each and every fan. Daniels said that he came back to ROH to become a champion but can't remember the last time he was even given a shot to get a title shot. Says instead he's been wrestling on filler matches. Says he's been treading water. Says when he fought his way back into the title picture and he and Sydal won the belts that the fans acted like the belts belonged to Aries/Strong or The Briscoes and that they couldn't wait for Daniels/Sydal to lose the titles. Daniels asks the fans why they gave up on him when he never gave up on them. Was it TNA? Just because he was/is with TNA doesn't mean that he didn't bust his ass in the ring for them. Says the only people who think there is a rivarly between TNA and ROH are the fans. Says he made the right decision in leaving ROH for TNA 3 and a half years ago and says that he would make that same decision now. Says if they want to know why they can just take his bank statement and put it next to Bryan Danielson's. Says he makes a six figure salary and gets to wrestle in front of one million people every week. What has Ring of Honor ever done for him? Makes fun of the "This Is Awesome" chant. Says he's sick and tired of being judged by the fans when they have less than no knowledge of what it takes to be a pro wrestler. Says he can't believe he wanted to commit to this company full-time. Why should he stay in ROH? So they can use him up the same way they used up Samoa Joe. Says TNA took Joe away from ROH because of "you people". Says they are never happy, says Joe would have killed himself for them. Says Joe has been gone for 2 months and they have already forgotten about him. Says they have forgotten about Joe, they have forgotten about CM Punk and they will forget about Colt Cabana in about a week. Says that it's not gonna be him and he's not giving them one more minute of his time, one more drop of his sweat or one more beat of his heart. He is announcing the official Christopher Daniels farewell tour. It starts right now and it ends when he goes through the curtain because as far as he is concerned "you people" have seen his last ROH match. Says they break his heart and tells Ring of Honor "You Can Go to Hell" and says "I Quit". Allison Danger tries to talk some sense into him but he pushes her down and yells at her. Fans chant "F You Daniels". Daniels takes off. Great promo. Two great promos so far. This was EASILY the best thing Christopher Daniels has done in ROH in at least 3 years if not more, sad to see him wait to pull it out on the way out of the company.
Next they show a really serious old CM Punk promo from April 04 and then all of a sudden Colt Cabana jumps in with a party.
Brent Albright vs. BJ Whitmer vs. Homicide vs. Jimmy Rave. (Four Corner Survival)
This was a perfectly acceptable 4-Corner Survival. Albright wins when he drops BJ on his head with a half nelson suplex. Albright continues to get a pretty big push and Whitmer continues the beginning of his losing streak.
Highlights are shown of the Austin Aries/Colt Cabana Cage Match from February 05.
Next up are The Briscoes and they cut a promo on Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin hyping their match for tonight.
Austin Aries vs. Rocky Romero
This was pretty by the numbers. Solid match and the crowd seemed to dig it. So it worked.
Post-match Roderick Strong hits the ring for a beatdown but Delirious enters with a chair and chases Roddy out of the building through the crowd.
August 05 Night of the Grudges II "Soccer Riot Match" highlights as shown from the Cabana vs Nigel match.
Takeshi Morishima vs. Shingo (ROH World Title Match)
This was fun and the crowd was into it. Very competitive back and forth match with Shingo getting numerous close falls. This was announced by the commentators as Shingo's last match in ROH (if he didn't win) so I will be sad to see him go as he has been one of my favorite guys to watch in ROH in 2007.
Colt vs James Gibson highlights from August 05 are shown.
Rebecca Bayless is backstage with Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley.
Bobby Dempsey and Alex Payne are in the ring and are about to wrestle but they are interrupted by Tank Toland. Toland is on the mic and puts himself over as an "all-natural superior athlete". Says that neither of these two guys are athletes. Tells them to take a good hard look at themselves. Tells Alex Payne he's built like a 12 yr old girl. Then turns his words on Bobby Dempsey breaking him down verbally "is it you or is it fat in here?", Says he's never seen anything so nasty, disgusting, grotesque in all of his life. Says it's OK, pick his 5 chins up because there is hope for him. Tank loves a challenge and says that he is going to take Bobby Dempsey and turn his "chunk into hunk". Says he will make Dempsey just like him "an all-natural superior athlete". Says he's going to show Bobby what he's about when he puts the beatdown on "Sally Slim Jim" (Alex Payne). Good, funny promo.
Tank Toland vs. Alex Payne
At one point Toland does jumping jack double stomps on Payne during the middle of the match. Alex Payne makes a short comeback before he eats a huge one armed sidewalk slam and then did one-arm push-ups on Payne while the ref counted three. This was a fun little squash and Toland really looked good.
Post-match Toland gets on the mic and talks to Dempsey about his training and they leave together.
Homicide/Cabana highlights are shown from February 06.
Roderick Strong w/Rocky Romero vs. Jack Evans
Jack Evans hits the ring immediately and this one is off to a running start. Strong grabs the advantage and controls the match with Jack making quick comeback occasionally. Nice spot where Roderick wraps Jack around the ringpost and stretches him. They do some nice comeback spots for Jack, who tries a handspring elbow but Roderick catches him and forcefully slams him down on the canvas and then continues to stretch Jack. Evans gets a nice comeback run later in the match but eats double knees from Roderick then Roderick disposes of him backwards over the top rope. Roddy then hits a belly-to-back suplex on the ring apron. Back in the ring and Roddy sets up Jack in the corner but Jack somehow reverses it and hits double knees to the chest from the top rope while Roddy is trapped in the Tree of Woe. Evans goes for the 630 but Roddy stops him. Roddy then hits a big Fallaway Slam from the second rope but still can't put Jack away. Romero interferes while Jack is in a weak defenseless position and Roddy hits a big move for the win. Good match- good story of Roddy trying everything to put away Jack, Jack fighting hard to come back and Romero helping Roddy put away Jack in the end.
Post-match Roddy and Romero continue the beatdown with a chair and stomps. Delirious comes running to the ring with 2 chairs to run off the No Remorse Corps.
Danielson/Cabana highlights from August 06 are shown.
Jay & Mark Briscoe vs. Alex Shelley & Chris Sabin (ROH World Tag Team Title Match)
Solid start as they build slow with Sabin vs Mark and then Jay vs Shelley. Good stuff early but more of a feeling out process. Machine Guns use some cute heel tactics earlier to gain slight advantages but the Briscoes always come back quickly to even out the advantage. Briscoes gain the first real sustained advantage on Shelley but he eventually gets the tag to Sabin and the Machine Guns show some nice teamwork and isolate Mark which leads to a great hot tag and Jay Briscoe kicking some ass until he eventually gets caught by Sabin and then the Machine Guns double team. Really fun stuff here at around the 15 minute mark and the Machine Guns to stereo dives to the outside. Double submission moves clamped on by the Machine Guns about 20 minutes in but they don't get the tap. Briscoes take back over with a big boot and then a springboard press. Pretty back and forth match at this point as both teams have had sustained advantages but neither have been able to remain on top. Briscoes do a double team tackle and double hip-toss on Sabin and are on advantage with the ring cut in half. Sabin escapes and Shelley gets the hot tag but comes in quick and finds himself being pinned for a near fall. Shelley bounces back and regains his momentum and gets a German suplex w/a bridge for a near fall after Sabin took out Mark Briscoe. Machine Guns use some nice double teams to get a near fall but Mark breaks it up. Mark gets a tag and nails Shelley with a springboard kick and then goes off on Sabin. Then he hits a turnaround springboard moonsault on Shelley for 2. Lots of action and the Briscoes hit a doubleteam neckbreaker for 2. Briscoes go for a Doomsday Device but it backfires and Sabin hits a reverse rana. Machine Guns hit a double superkick and then an assisted Sliced Bread #2 but can't put away the champs. Machine Guns hit a double dive off the top but Mark breaks up the fall. Mark hits a hot shot on Shelley, Jay then kills Shelley over the top with a clothesline and Mark then immediately hits a dive onto Shelley from the ring. Great combo of moves by the Briscoes. Back in the ring and Shelley kicks himself out of the Jay Driller but then eats a Military Press into a Death Valley Driver. Mark tags in and hits a SSP but Sabin dives in to interrupt the pinfall. Sabin and Mark goes toe to toe and then Sabin goes up top but he's caught by Mark but Shelley interferes and the Machine Guns do a Doomsday missile dropkick. Shelley follows this up with a superkick and then a running Air Raid Crash. Crowd to it's feet for the pinfall but it's only 2! Shelley hits Shellshock but Jay breaks it up at 2 to save the tag-titles. Shelley goes for Sliced Bread Number 2 but instead eats a Cutthroat Driver and Shelley somehow kicks out. "ROH" chant. Mark goes for another Cutthroat Driver and they do a combo as Jay comes off the top rope with a legdrop as Mark hits the cutthroat driver and it's finally 3. Really good match. Definitely my favorite ROH tag-team match this year.
Cabana/Jacobs/Lacey stuff shown from February 07.
Backstage Roderick Strong and Rocky Romero cut a promo with Roddy talking about Delirious.
Colt Cabana vs. Adam Pearce w/Shane Hagadorn
Cabana come with someone in front of him rapping his theme song to a big ovation and a ton of streamers. "Thank You Colt" chant starts up before the match. Pearce jumps Colt during ring intros and they start wrestling amongst the sea of streamers and Colt uses them to his advantage by wrapping them around Pearce and then pushing him down.
Pearce gets on the stick and briefly heels it up before getting back in the ring with Cabana. Colt does some comedy as he's making sure that he's having fun in his final match but Hagadorn interferes from outside and Pearce cheapshots for the advantage. Colt uses comedy to get out of a submission and then when the refs back is turned he fakes getting hit by a chair (slams it on the ring apron) and then sells it like death framing Hagadorn and the ref tosses Hagadorn from ringside. Good back and forth stuff throughout this match with Cabana adding a lot of comedy throughout and Pearce playing a good heel. Pearce eventually taps to Cabana's "Billy Goat Curse' and Cabana gets a good ovation.
Post-match Colt gets on the mic puts over Pearce and extends his hand to Pearce. Pearce takes the stick talks up Cabana and then says that he has one thing to say to Cabana that he needs to remember to be a top star. He says "this is it" and then spits in Cabana's face and leaves the ring throwing a chair back towards the ring. The locker room then empties and the boys from the back come out to pay their respects to Cabana for all that he has done for ROH during his tenure. Cabana's parents join him in the ring and the fans give him a big "Colt Cabana" chant and Colt then cuts his goodbye promo.
Verdict:
I liked this show a lot. One thing that stood out was there were some really solid promos- Jimmy Jacobs, Christopher Daniels and Tank Toland really cut some great ones. Toland's shtick was money. Briscoes vs Machine Guns was top notch and the rest of the card was really solid. Overall, a very enjoyable show and probably one of the top shows this year for ROH with the promos really putting this above some shows that may have had some better in-ring work.

Briscoes vs Machine Guns was top notch and the rest of the card was really solid. Overall, a very enjoyable show and probably one of the top shows this year for ROH with the promos really putting this above some shows that may have had some better in-ring work.
