Reborn Again- Hartford, CT 5/11/07
Rebecca Bayless is backstage and she is interrupted by Bryan Danielson! Danielson announces that he is back with a fully healed shoulder and a bunch of tricks up his sleeve. Says he has an open contract for tonight and will prove once again why he was the best in the World for a Year and Half.
Breaking News: ROH announces that due to their PPV announcement TNA has exercised their right not to book Homicide and Austin Aries to wrestle for ROH. ROH would like to thank Homicide and Austin Aries for everything they have done for ROH. PPV has allowed ROH to sign it's wrestlers to contracts so this will not happen again. ROH now has a roster of contracted wrestlers.
Jimmy Rave vs. Pelle Primeau
This was a pretty fun opener. Rave mostly dominates but Primeau does a comeback spot with a dropkick off the apron, a Thesz press and a double stomp and then gets a quick roll-up. Primeau has a rana reversed into a heel hook for a quick tap. Good, quick, fun opener that got a decent reaction.
No Remorse Corps is backstage and Roderick Strong cuts a promo on Austin Aries. Says he's the only original member of Generation Next still standing. Davey Richards shoots on the two remaining members of the Resilience, Matt Cross and Erick Stevens.
Daizee Haze vs. Nikki Roxx
Perfectly acceptable women's wrestling.
Post match Sara del Rey comes down and tells Daizee good match and congratulates her on a big win and then leaves.
Kevin Steen & El Generico vs.Jason Blade & Eddie Edwards
This was a lot of fun. I always liked Blade when he was teaming with Kid Mikaze but never really bought Mikaze's offense. I think Eddie Edwards is a much better fit for him. They are a good little lower to mid-card tag-team. Generico and Steen have really come along way since their initial ROH run and they are fitting in nicely.
Claudio Castagnoli vs. Bobby Fish
Bobby Fish AKA Jerk Jackson. He's been in ROH before for a show or two but it looks like he's getting another look. Solid match. Both guys look good. Fans seemed to dig the match, Fish looked decent enough to get a call back and work the under card and Claudio looked real good like usual and continues to be over.
The best theme music in pro wrestling is back! IT'S THE FINAL COUNTDOWN! But it's not Bryan Danielson, when he removes his robe it's Shane Hagadorn! Adam Pearce then comes out on the stick and runs down the crowd. Says that there are free tickets to the PPV taping tomorrow night and they are taped up a chair in the audience. Then he heels the fans telling them they are idiots and there are no free tickets! Says tonight it will be American Dragon versus Shane Hagadorn (Danielson had an open contract for this event). Hagadorn looks all happy until Pearce says this. Danielson's music comes back on and he comes out to the ring.
Shane Hagadorn vs. Bryan Danielson
This is Danielson's first match back since Final Battle 2006, about 5 months ago. This was pretty much a quick competitive squash and Hagadorn taps out. Adam Pearce then hits the ring and attacks Danielson and they start a wrestling match.
Adam Pearce vs. Bryan Danielson
Pearce puts Danielson down and hits a leg drop off the top rope but Danielson quickly regroups and makes Pearce tap in under 3 minutes.
Post-match the No Remorse Corps come down to the ring with Danielson still in. Roderick Strong gets on the mic and talks to Danielson about what's been going on while he's been gone. Introduces Bryan to the No Remorse Corps. Roderick asks Danielson if he wants to join the NRC. Says in ROH you are either with them or against them. Danielson says he's never sold out in his entire life, says if he has to choose then he is against them. Erick Stevens and Matt Cross hit the ring and says that no that the odds are even the NRC runs like cowards. Danielson says that he is not with these guys but he will fight next to them and challenges the NRC to a 3 on 3 match-up. Strong says no but then Matt Cross hits a huge flippy move from the ring and Stevens and Danielson pick up the scraps and we are off!
Roderick Strong, Davey Richards & Rocky Romero vs. Bryan Danielson, Matt Cross, & Erick Stevens
Exciting start to the match with the Cross flippy dive and brawling outside the ring. They work a pretty solid match with Danielson's team getting the early advantage but the NRC really controlling the pace and the majority of the match. This leads to Stevens, Cross and Danielson cleaning house and Danielson and Cross hitting dives. NRC grabs back the advantage and they go back and forth before Richards pins Cross with the D.R. Driver.
Rebecca Bayless is backstage at intermission with Jimmy Rave. Rave talks about tonight being an example, a new beginning, now he's taking what he wants.
Tank Toland w/Bobby Dempsey vs. Mitch Franklin
Toland makes Dempsey do some squats as they come to the ring and has Dempsey doing curls during the match. Toland dominates this match. Does squats during a suplex of Franklin at one point. Franklin tries to do a surprise headscizzors but instead eats a sidewalk slam. Toland does the jumping jacks/double stomps spot in this match. Bobby Dempsey is blown up outside the ring from the curls. Toland hits a SICK Razor's edge bomb that just KILLS Franklin. He then picks him up and does a one armed sidewalk slam and covers him for the pin doing one armed push-ups. Technically, not a great match but I'm really digging Toland. He's really fun. Post-match Toland takes down Dempsey's straps and makes him do a running senton onto Franklin in the corner.
Backstage Delirious is cutting a promo in gibberish. He says something about taekwondo and KENTA.
Naomichi Marufuji vs. Matt Sydal
This was fun. Good solid match and both guys looked real good.
Delirious vs. KENTA
Whenever he hears that bell he begins to lose his mind! Delirious's shtick never gets old. This was pretty fun. I liked this and Maru/Sydal. Both were solid.
Jay & Mark Briscoe vs. Takeshi Morishima & BJ Whitmer (ROH World Tag Team Title Match)
I think this was original supposed to be Morishima and Nigel but I could be wrong. The Morishima/Briscoes stuff was really enjoyable although the overall match wasn't quite the quality that we usually see from an ROH Main Event.
Post-match we have Jimmy Jacobs preparing for a date.
Jimmy Jacobs in association with ROH wrestling presents: "Love to Spare"
Jimmy is taking Lacey bowling! Jimmy asks her if she liked to bowl and she says "No. No, not really". Jimmy says they will have fun anyway as he limps away with the bowling balls. They show footage of the bowling and have Jimmy and Lacey talking about the day in past tense. Jimmy is bowling with his cane. Some guys comes up and hits on Lacey at the bar and Jimmy takes him and throws him down and says that Lacey is taken for. Lacey said that he redeemed himself a little for standing up for her at the end of the night. Apparently this was night one of four nights of Jimmy and Lacey.
Verdict:
This was an OK show but will probably end up on the lower rung of ROH shows. A lot of decent to good stuff but nothing great. The under card was solid, Danielson's return was nice and Tank Toland stole the show with his squash. The Marufuji and KENTA matches were good and the Main Event was good but not really a show to tout ROH as being "Reborn Again" IMO.
