Domination- Philadelphia, PA 6/9/07 (DVD)
Rebecca Bayless is backstage and she introduces the show and talks about the upcoming ROH PPV. Says that they will have ROH wrestlers talking about being on PPV throughout the show.
Matt Sydal vs. Hallowicked
They put over Sydal as one of the top free agents in pro wrestling and say that he has yet to sign an ROH contract. This was pretty solid. Hallowicked definitely held his own and brought some nice offense as well. Nice nearfall near the end that the crowd really bought as Sydal seemed to be bringing the match home but Wicked hit him with a wicked high kick and got a nearfall and a "Hallowicked" chant. This was a good opener that put over both guys and got the crowd into it.
Lacey vs. Daizee Haze
Lacey gets on the mic pre-match and says that she wants a straight up wrestling match. This was solid but definitely a little longer than it needed to be.
Erick Stevens is backstage and cuts a promo. Says he's just getting his feet wet in ROH but he's been hit with obstacle after obstacle. Says there are now excuses and now that they are on PPV it's time to go and it's big time now.
Kevin Steen & El Generico vs. Mike Quackenbush & Jigsaw
Crowd starts "Quack" and "Mr Wrestling" chants before the match gets underway. Some real good wrasslin early with Generico and Quack as Quack shows off his quickness. Steen uses some underhanded tactics to get the advantage on Jigsaw early and he and Generico aren't quite on the same page as Generico seems to think that Steen doesn't need to use those tactics. Nonetheless they isolate Jigsaw and work him over. Which leads to the hot tag to Quack. And he hit some funky offense to the joy of the crowd. Eventually Quack eats a Steen powerbomb and it's quickly followed up with a Generico splash from the top for a near fall. Generico misses a big boot and in a really quick sequence Jigsaw hits a Torcher Rack powerbomb, Quack comes off the top with a swanton, Jigsaw comes off the top with a legdrop and then Quack comes off the top with double knees for a near fall as Steen makes the save. Jigsaw goes for his jumping rana as Steen is up on the top turnbuckle but Steen, who is sitting on the top turnbuckle, grabs him and holds him upside. Generico does a springboard flipping kick from the other side of the ring and then Steen hits a middle rope powerbomb but Quack breaks it up. Generico hits a dive to the outside on Quack. Steen nails Jig with the Package Piledriver and then Generico hits the brainbuster for the win. Really great fast paced 10 minute match that the crowd really dug. Good stuff. Post-match Steen talks the camera and puts himself over as usual. Post-match Steen gets rough with Jigsaw and Quack takes exception and Generico plays peacemaker. I love the energy Generico and Steen are bringing to ROH and I'm really digging Quack's run in ROH thus far (although I knew I'd enjoy Quack's run).
Irish Airborne get to cut a backstage promo about ROH and being on PPV. Ask ROH to give them one more shot so they can show what they are made of.
Davey Richards vs. Matt Cross
This was OK. It was a good change of pace from the last match as Davey slowed things down. They build to Cross's comeback spots but then have Davey put him down. Pretty simple match but comes off good enough for a mid-card match. Post-match Davey continues a beatdown and Roderick and Rocky come down and they stop away. Delirious's music hits and he and Erick Stevens come down and Stevens pairs off with Roderick, Cross with Richards and Delirious starts his match with Romero.
Rocky Romero vs. Delirious
Match starts up quick from the last one and they are quickly fighting outside in the crowd and the bleachers. This match was good for what it was. Decent to good mid-card match. Post-match the No Remorse Corps beatdown Delirious. Erick Stevens hits the ring with Matt Cross to try and even the sides but they are out manned for a little while but eventually run off the NRC.
Larry Sweeney is backstage and he talks about ROH coming to PPV and getting bigger exposure for Sweet and Sour Inc.
Brent Albright vs. BJ Whitmer vs. Jimmy Rave vs. Erick Stevens (Four Corner Survival)
This was just kind of there. Nothing particularly wrong with the match, it just didn't draw me in as a viewer. They really pushed Albright hard at the beginning of the match and then teased Whitmer taking out the ref for the second straight night only to have Albright finish him off and continue the BJ storyline.
Jay & Mark Briscoe vs. Chris Hero & Claudio Castagnoli (ROH World Tag Team Title 2/3 Falls Match)
Dueling chants to being as the crowd seems pretty hyped for this one. Hero does some showboating to start things off and eats a big boot from Jay to the delight of the crowd. Overall a real solid back and forth first fall. Real good false finish in fall 2 where Hero takes out Mark on the floor and Claudio hits the waterslide for a near 2 that the crowd bought. Shortly after this Mark hits a beautiful moonsault to the outside and Claudio hits a great Springboard European and then a Ricola bomb for another near 2 but he's broken up by Mark. In just a flash after this the Briscoes reverse Claudio's advantage and catch him in a really fluid sequence that ends up with Claudio being on the business end of a Doomsday Device Clothesline. Hero and company leave Claudio in the ring and Bobby Dempsey carries Hero to the back. Good solid Semi-Main Event that was meant to put the Briscoes over even more against a tag-team that had already disbanded in ROH (Claudio had chosen Hero to be his partner because he felt it was his best shot to win back the tag-titles).
Daizee Haze is backstage and talks about ROH on PPV and says she wants to prove that the women athletes in ROH are the best athletes in the world but out of nowhere Lacey comes in and destroys her with what looks to be a running forearm and then celebrates with some other unidentified female.
Takeshi Morishima vs. Roderick Strong (ROH World Title Match)
Good fast paced start to the match with Roddy really taking it to Morishima. Unfortunately for Roddy it doesn't last for long and Morishima takes over. Roddy makes a good short comeback but again falls to the bigger, aggressive champ. They did a nice stretch run with Morishima standing up to Roddy but then Roddy coming through and doing a good hot run that ended up getting a nearly contested 2 that brought the fans into the match. Morishima ends up winning with a sick backdrop driver. This was really solid IMO and was actually better than I thought it would be. It was kept between 10-15 minutes and was pretty formula-matic but it worked and they did a good hot stretch that put the finish in doubt. Morishima seems to be finding his niche more and more in ROH as he seems to be getting more comfortable and IMO it's making for better matches/defenses.
Verdict:
This was a good show. It had a good Main Event (Morishima vs Strong), a good semi-Main (Briscoes vs KOW), and had a great undercard match in Steen/Generico vs Quack/Jigsaw and had a lot of other stuff that would rate as decent to good. Overall, another good and solid show but not quite great.
