Driven- Chicago Ridge, IL 6/23/07
They open up with Dave Prazak in the ring and the fans going nuts. Great energy in the building. Erick Stevens, Delirious and Matt Cross hit the ring and challenge the No Remorse Corps to a match.
Roderick Strong, Davey Richards, & Rocky Romero vs. Delirious, Erick Stevens, & Matt Cross
This was a really strong opener that was very fast paced and the crowd was hot at the right times. Everybody looked good in this one. Great way to start off the PPV.
Post-Match Austin Aries comes out of the crowd to a superstar welcome and runs off NRC and then cuts a good but hard to understand promo that ignites the crowd into an Austin Aries frenzy.
Really hot start to the show. I don't think they could have had a better combo of a match and then Aries return to really get the show off to a bang then they did. It's been a while since I sat down and watched a wrestling DVD but damn this was real good.
The Briscoes cut a promo and then a package of the ROH Japan shows is shown.
Matt Sydal vs. Claudio Castagnoli
This was pretty great. Just a great flow to this match and they executed a lot of high degree of difficulty moves really well. This was just a lot of fun to watch. Both of these guys were really on their game tonight.
Post-Match Larry Sweeney and Sweet and Sour Inc come down and Sweeney offers Matt Sydal a contract with Sweet and Sour. Claudio tells Sydal not to do it and then it breaks down with Claudio and Sweeney going at it and Sydal coming to the aid of Sweeney which leads to a Claudio beatdown and Sydal joining Sweet and Sour.
BJ Whitmer vs Naomichi Marufuji
I didn't like this as much as the first two matches but it was still decent with the crowd digging the match. Marufuji looked good.
Post-match Rebecca Bayless is in the crowd and hypes some upcoming events.
Brent Albright vs. Pelle Primeau
This was a fun quick squash.
Jay & Mark Briscoe vs. Kevin Steen & El Generico (World Tag Team Title Match)
This one went from OK to WOW real quick. First half of the match was a good regular tag-match and when they went outside of the ring it escalated into a heated match with big moves, a hot crowd and heated action. Overall a really strong tag-match. Typical Briscoes match, if you like their matches you will love this one. Post-match Kevin Steen beats down the Briscoes with a ladder to further the feud.
Larry Sweeney is backstage with Sweet and Sour Inc and he cuts a real good promo and they horse around with Bobby Dempsey. Good segment.
Takeshi Morishima vs. Jimmy Rave (ROH World Title Match)
This was a real fun short competitive squash.
Nigel McGuinness vs. Bryan Danielson (#1 Contender's Match)
This was fantastic. Definitely the best match i've seen this year and thus it tops the list of MOTYC so far for me. Just great intensity and execution from both of these guys and they just went out and had a great match. Danielson had a fantastic entrance and the crowd pumped him up like a star. Crowd was really hot for this match and both guys just went out and did everything they could to deliver a great match. Really hot closing segment as well as they did a series of headbutts that was just brutal and set up the finish really well.
Bonus Matches:
Lacey & Rain w/ Jimmy Jacobs vs. Daizee Haze & MsChif
This was decent but wasn't as good as the ROH women's matches usually are.
Nigel McGuinness vs. Chris Hero
This was a good fun match. Chris Hero has moved up the charts to be the 2nd or 3rd guy that I look forward to most when watching ROH. His taunts are amazing.
Takeshi Morishima vs. Adam Pearce (ROH World Title Match)
This was a fun competitive squash.
Bryan Danielson vs. KENTA
Another great Bryan Danielson match on this DVD. Really good stuff here especially the last 5 minutes. Well worth seeing and one of the better matches I've seen this year.
Verdict:
Overall, this is definitely a DVD that you want to see. Danielson/McGuinness is the best match i've seen this year and Danielson/KENTA wasn't too far behind. 2 Danielson matches, 2 McGuinness matches and 2 Morishima matches on this DVD. Add in the really fun 6-man opener, a Claudio/Sydal match that greatly surpassed my expectations and Briscoes vs Steen/Generico and you won't see many better DVD's than this one right now in the world of wrestling.
