Caged Rage- Hartford, CT 8/24/07
The Briscoes are backstage and they cut a promo about their Steel Cage ROH tag-team title defense tonight versus Kevin Steen and El Generico. This is the first time the ROH tag-titles will be up for grabs inside a Steel Cage.
Chris Hero vs. Hallowicked
Chris is Awesome. Clap Clap Clap Clap Clap. Chris is Awesome. Sweet n Sour is in effect at ringside with Larry Sweeney, Sara del Ray and Bobby Dempsey and Chris Hero is in full taunt mode tonight. Overall, this is a solid opener with lots of fan involvement and Hallowicked looks good in defeat.
Post-match Sweet n Sour Inc are backstage and they cut a promo about Chris Hero's match tomorrow night against Claudio Castagnoli.
Jimmy Jacobs vs. Rhett Titus
Rhett Titus's gimmick is something of a cross between The Narcissist era-Lex Luger, Rick Rude and Sexxxy Eddy and it's not very good. The crowd gives him hell throughout this match and he uses way too many hip gyrations. This is Jacob's return from injury match and he gets a nice reception from the crowd. Overall, this isn't very good but it's a throw-away match in the grand scheme of things.
Post-Match Jimmy Jacobs is backstage and cuts a promo about his knee being 100% and that the match was for Lacey.
Nigel McGuiness vs. Delirious vs. Adam Pearce vs. BJ Whitmer (Four Corner Survival)
This was probably the shortest Four Corner Survival match I can remember but it worked as it flowed really well and the fans were really into Delirious and especially Nigel. This was real good for what it was.
Post-Match Adam Pearce attacks Delirious and then Brent Albright comes in and joins Pearce in the attack. Whitmer comes in and Pearce tells him to make a decision. Whitmer decides to join Pearce and Albright and attacks Delirious. Then they staple his mask to his face.
Austin Aries, Erick Stevens, & Matt Cross vs. Pelle Primeau, Jason Blade, & Eddie Edwards
The refs announce this match stipulations as:
1. If Stevens or Cross get pinned they lose their spot in the Resilience to the man that pinned them.
2. If Aries gets pinned then the Resilience will disband.
Davey Richards hears this and comes in and takes out Pelle Primeau and takes his spot in the match. Overall, this was a good mid-card match. Davey being in this really added to it because he brought the element of hate and he and Aries had some good exchanges.
Post-Match we get a backstage promo from Aries directed at the No Remorse Corps and also to Jack Evans.
Bryan Danielson vs. PAC
I forgot Pac was going to be on this show so this should be interesting. My wife totally no sells his entrance by remarking at how ugly he is. This was a fun match with Danielson controlling the match and Pac picking his spots and just having to worry about hitting his spots. Pac crashes and burns on a couple and looks great on a couple. Danielson is his normal amazing self and this one ends up being pretty good due to him.
Takeshi Morishima vs. Claudio Castagnoli vs. Brent Albright (ROH World Title Elimination Match
After Claudio and Albright are introduced they go backstage and Bryan Danielson cuts a promo about his match with Pac and about his match tomorrow night with Morishima. Overall, this match was solid. Everyone did their part. Claudio is really coming on strong over the last several shows and the crowd was real hot at one point for a near fall but it wasn't to be.
Rebecca Bayless is backstage and she goes to interview Kevin Steen and El Generico but Steen takes the mic and cuts a solid promo about their Cage Match tonight against The Briscoes as Generico massages his shoulders.
Jack Evans vs. Roderick Strong (Steel Cage Match)
This was a fun, short Cage Match. No blood but lots of high spots and use of the cage as a weapon. Roderick wins and they put over that Evans needs help to win the war against the NRC.
Jay & Mark Briscoe vs. Kevin Steen & El Generico (World Tag Team Title Steel Cage Match)
This was a good Main Event and a good chapter in what might be the feud of the year (definitely the ROH Feud of the Year). This match was typical of these two teams in that there was action from bell to bell and lots of crowd popping moves. Add some blood and cage to that and you've got a fun match. Post-Match Kevin Steen continues the feud by taking a chair to both Briscoes and hits them with a Package Piledriver and a sick brainbuster through a chair before leaving them in the ring with the fallen Generico.
Verdict:
This was a good show but really nothing to put it over the top. Just some good wrestling.
