Manhattan Mayhem II- New York, NY 8/25/07
The new Hangmen Three faction with Adam Pearce, BJ Whitmer and Brent Albright start us off with a backstage promo as they are in the process of shaving Shane Hagadorn's head (probably so that he will look more like Pearce- his mentor). They talk about Delirious and Whitmer is looking for revenge on Pelle Primeau (who upset him recently)
Matt Cross & Erick Stevens vs. Mike Quackenbush & Jigsaw
Good choice for an opener as this was a fun match. Took a little while to get going but once it did it went nicely and the fans dug it. The fans are totally into Quack wherever he goes and ROH needs to do whatever they can to bring him in as a full-time addition to the roster because he's over without ROH even pushing him. Imagine what would happen if he actually got time to get direction and have a purpose. Stevens and Cross are decent as a team but the fans really aren't into them as the whole Resilience faction seems to have lost it's steam (which it never really had a chance to gain). I'm a huge fan of Stevens so with the Resilience breaking up in the future I see the potential for big things for him in ROH.
Jimmy Jacobs vs. Mitch Franklin
This was Jimmy's second match back from his injury and just felt like filler. Franklin got in too much offense as well.
Jack Evans cuts a promo about his match against Austin Aries and Roderick Strong tonight and says that he has enlisted the help of someone to motivate him and off camera you can hear Julius Smokes doing his calls.
BJ Whitmer, Adam Pearce, & Brent Albright vs. Delirious, Nigel McGuinness, & Pelle Primeau
This was a good mongrel Six-Man tag with some stories entertwined (Pearce/Delirious, Pelle/Whitmer). Nigel killed guys with lariots and Whitmer got his revenge on Pelle. Post-Match Hangmen 3 did a beatdown on Pelle.
Delirious cuts a backstage promo on Pearce.
Davey Richards vs. PAC
This was better than the live reports indicated but I would have preferred Richards going over stronger. Pac looked good on the UK shows earlier this year but didn't show anything to me on the last two shows. Davey on the other hand, seems to be doing a better job as a heel as time moves on and he moves away from being the indy spot machine that he is so criticized for.
Austin Aries vs. Roderick Strong vs. Jack Evans
This was a decent match but ultimately just a battle in the war between these three factions. Mid-match there was a ref bump and that led to tons of interference including the high-light of Ruckus making his ROH debut in impressive fashion on the side of Jack Evans. But Austin Aries ultimately won the match with the help of Erick Stevens.
Post-Match Rebecca Bayless is backstage and she interviews Jimmy Jacobs about being back in ROH. Jacobs talks about being off for 5 months and says that he is coming back with a new purpose and the fans will find out what it is soon.
Austin Aries is backstage with Erick Stevens and Matt Cross and he cuts a good promo.
Ruckus vs. Eddie Edwards
I would have preferred for Ruckus just to do his run-in in the previous match but this was a decent post-intermission popcorn match with Edwards looking solid and Ruckus hitting all of his spots.
Chris Hero vs. Claudio Castagnoli
Chris Hero is just awesome in his over-the-top outfit and taunts. Claudio is really on a role right now and is one of the most solid guys in ROH. Put these two together and you have a good solid match and that's what we got.
Post-match Claudio cuts a backstage promo.
Takeshi Morishima vs. Bryan Danielson (ROH World Title Match)
This was really good and easily in the Top 5 ROH matches this year. Danielson suffered an eye injury about 5 minutes in but toughed it out and fought a really great match from that point forward. Like most Danielson matches this really picked up in the end and the homestretch is what really brought this match together.
Post-Match Larry Sweeney is backstage and cuts a short promo on Claudio.
Jay & Mark Briscoe vs. Kevin Steen & El Generico (World Tag Team Title- 2 Out Of 3 Falls)
This was a good Main Event. Kind of typical of the Briscoes/Steenerico feud and this match did not disappoint. If you liked their other matches then you will like this match.
Verdict:
This was a good but not great show. The crowd was a little down for a NYC crowd. Highlight of the night was the low-end MOTYC between Morishima and Danielson. Show started off pretty decent with the Quack tag but the first half of the show was pretty forgettable with the show picking up at Ruckus's debut and then back up at Hero/Claudio.
