Just out of curiosity I was wondering if anybody on this board is training or is a trained wrestler? I'm currently in training at a local gym, but not exactly hardcore as I'm also a full time college student with a part time job. I'm doing it as something fun on the side and have no aspirations to become a full time wrestler, but it's still a lot of fun. What's really odd is after watching so much wrestling your whole life, little things that seem complicated to most people just come second nature. My friend who I spend most of my training time with and I mostly wrestle a kind of Japanese strong-style, but with the tempo turned up. It's a lot of fun to try something different than what everybody else is doing around you.

Trust me, figure is a distant second in things you should worry about next to just paying attention. You could look like HHH but if you're not paying attention and dicking around, nobody will want to train you. Yeah I know the exception is if you're a playboy playmate, but I'm assuming none of us are.

I've actually thought about it. When I go to college I might try to get into a training school or something.
I'm not really sure about it, but the thought has crossed my mind before.

I actually have been fully trained! I was trained in 2000 by KYDA Pro Wrestling Training School here in Virignia. It was a lot of fun when we had little camps with guys like Tommy Dreamer, Steve Corino, and Little Guido. Alexis Laree and Sonjay Dutt were also up at the camps back then. At the same time however I was playing baseball for my local college and messed up my back pretty bad and that took me out of both for quite a while. I did play baseball again but have not done anything with wrestling. A friend of mine is getting ready to start a promotion and I may look into working for him some if I can train again for a while.

That's awesome you had such great wrestlers to be around. The guys who run the gym I train at pretty much don't know sh*t for sh*t, but the key is that they have a ring. I pretty much have to teach myself anything above a scoop slam.

Pepper that is awesome... I have one year of school until I get my degree, and right now my plan is to sign up at the Chikara Wrestle Factory next summer. My goal is to wrestle as a hobby.. I want to do comedy, and I was torn between doing local plays or wrestling. The way I figure it, I can do wrestling now and I'll have the rest of my life to do plays. So I'm now starting to get into shape, have a looonnngg way to go. I want to do a lot of cardio so I can go long. I don't want to be like Konnan and get winded after I do my two trademark spots. I want to be a comedic wrestler Like Ebessan or Shark boy (more comedy than sharky, though).. Ideally I'd like to get good enough so I can wrestle women and put them over, and hopefully help women's wrestling get going here in the US.

That's true. I've had one "backyard" match (that was indoors in a high school gym) and we called 90% of the match on the spot. It just felt really natural. At the time it was the coolest thing ever! Upon the third viewing or so I realized that it was actually quite brutal (the invisible man dropkick comes to mind where my opponent sold it).
Still, it's something I really want to get into. I'm going to try out for the ROH school sometime in the fall, and if that doesn't work out I'd seriously consider Chikara.

If you want to get an idea of how to perform some moves or just want to see professionals do the basics, I HIGHLY recommend you pick up the UPW training series DVD from their website. I purchased it a few months ago and it has helped me IMMENSELY. You can't go wrong with guys like Christopher Daniels, Frankie Kazarian, Samoa Joe, Tom Howard, John Cena, and others showing you how to perform moves. Most of you guys seem to have much better options when it comes to training than I do, but this series is still great. Here's the link if you're interested: www.upw.com/store/dvd_trainingseriescombopack.htm

If you ever look at a population density map of Oregon, about 90% of the population lives within about a 30 mile radius of Portland. Everybody else (including those in Salem) are just a bunch of hillbillies who live in little no-name towns.
