It seems to be the swing of things with NASA where stuff they work on for years always seems to fail at the last minute
The Genesis Space Capsule was in space for 2 1/2 years collecting info on its diamond chips that could collect and measue space activities.
It was supposed to land today, with a parachute opening on its entrance into the earths atmosphere. But much like the first couple MARS probes...things didnt go as planned. The Parachute didnt open and the 2 1/2 years worth of work smashed into the ground at the speed of sound
Kinda sucks...But this makes me wonder if the projected MARS missions will have the same result...lets hope not

Wow, that really blows. That's kinda scary seeing as they mentioned the data could be contaminated if it hit the ground at only 9mph and it hit at well over 100mph. Oh well, at least it didn't shoot through one of those helicopters that were supposed to catch it.

It has to really suck to work at NASA. You spend six years of your life, maybe more, on a project that fails because one thing went wrong. I hope they can recover at least some of the data.

Oh, and $286 million down the hole if they can't use any of the data.

Before i decided to go into entertainment i was really intrested in outer space. I even was a camp counselour at an outer space themed summer camp where i taught kids all about rockets, the universe, planets...etc...
What killed my NASA dreams was the CONSTANT failures due to minor errors, and that must be SO hearbreaking it would make my head explode. And im pretty happy having my head in once piece

I think it's hilarious. First, they design the thing to deploy a parachute and land softly on earth. When it's time for it to return, somebody decides the parachute won't slow down the descent long enough. So, they hire Hollywood stuntment to try and catch it.
After all that, the parachute fails, which causes the probe to crash.

Well it isn't exactly the first time we've royally fucked up a Space Mission.
