After a couple months of being inconsistant and falling on my head numerous times, I can now flawlessly kip up at will. Hold the applause people, just throw money.

Just try not to take a page out of Shawn Michaels book and do it after you've wrestled an entire match and had the sh*t beat out of you.

So that's where Teddy Hart got the idea?

I've never understood why HBK does that. If you've had the crap kicked out of you for 15 minutes or whatnot, there's no reason you should ever propell yourself to your feet using shoulder strength. Maybe he summons the power of the mirrored chaps or something, I don't know. I always dug it when The Rock did it after a DDT though.

I actually like when HBK does it, just because it's vintage Shawn and it makes him look like he has heart, I dunno.

I see heart as taking a beating, but coming back for more no matter what the odds are. Kipping up after getting the snot kicked out of you either means you're pulling a rope-a-dope or pro wrestling is trying even harder to remind you that you're watching a staged fight. Yeah it looks cool and you can get a reaction, but I think there's a time period in each match where it's appropriate and after that point it's just not realistic.

Shawn Michaels kipping up after having his back worked over happens in nearly every one of his matches. It's gotten so bad even LAWLER poked fun at it a couple weeks ago. It was awesome at WM XX when Michaels did that and Benoit clotheslined the HELL out of him as if to say, "Stay down BITCH!" ;D Congrats on learning the kip up. I've been trying to do it myself as of late and either fall on my ass or land on my back. I hear the trick is to keep doing it until you get it. Two months, eh? Next step... learning the front handspring.

What helped me wasn't so much the push off, but what to do with your feet. Try to think of pointing your toes to the back of your head while you're pushing off. Pusing out with your hands and throwing your feet towards your head gives you the momentum your body needs to get to your feet. Think of it kind of as if you're one of those Viking ship rides at the fair. Hopefuly that wasn't confusing.

Hey Rick, thanks for the tip. I can now, officially, ALMOST kinda sorta do it! I'm pretty close to nailing it... I can feel it! Good job! You'll get it in no time. Granted shoulder strength helps, but form is key. One exercise I do to help flexibility and shoulder strength is lay on your back on the floor, bridge up, walk towards your hands, then try to push yourself up to your feet. It's killer on your shoulders and abs, but it helps quite a bit.

Hey, is that bridging thing kinda like what Elix Skipper does where he rises out of a bridge, only without the Matrix part?
If not, I think my body would break like Volt's if I attempted such a thing. ;D

Stretching your abdominals out and holding yourself up on your shoulders is the point. Plus Elix bridges from a standing position, which is amazingly hard because I'd just fall on my head. This exercise is more like how Tajiri does it in that he pushes off of his opponent while being pinned, then bridges out and follows it up with a mule kick.

I always took the "kip up after a beatdown" as an adrenaline rush - the guy is digging deep and coming up with a burst of energy for a last-chance rally kind of thing. I like stuff like that, as long as it's used sparingly. In Japan, it kind of feels like they do the "get hit with a big move, no sell it, hit a big move THEN SELL IT" a little too much. It's cool though, some U.S. guys should rip that off.

Ok I'll admit I'm a huge fan of that, but that's not exactly how HBK does it. It's not like he'll take a pedigree, kip up, get hit with another pedigree and then lose. I absolutely loved Akiyama/Kobashi's combo on the Dome show when they took turns giving eachother exploders and no selling them, then BAM!
