Hey, I've decided to give some little updates periodically on how my training is going at Chikara. I finished my eighth week of training as of today and I'm still alive! *gets streamers ready* However, this was also my worst day, injurywise.
Right now, aside from bruises, scrapes, bad knees, and a hurt finger, I also have a sore neck. You see, I was dropped (well, fell) on my head three times tonight. Let's relive this wonderfullness, shall we??
First, we do this drill where we kinda backroll over another dude. I'd only done it once and it worked pretty well. Tonight was a whole nother story, I suppose, because I went back too fast and landed right on the back of my head and neck! So that hurt.
Next drill is similar, only you have to backflip over the other dude, who is on all fours. This is another thing I'd done once before and done surprisingly well on. Not tonight. ;D I think I know what I did wrong now, but picture me flying backwards and landing right on top of my head. It was like a Dragon Suplex except no one threw me. And, that did hurt.
I journeyed forth though, and that's when the crash pads were brought out for diving practice. I'd kinda sorta done a few of these in the past and tonight I pulled out the best tope I've done so far. Then it came time for the over the top rope dive. It's kinda like a tope con hilo, except you're supposed to land into a roll. Well, apparently I didn't get enough momentum and I leapt over the top rope like the world's most unathletic Superman and came crashing down HEAD FIRST to the outside. Thank God for the pad, although when you're angled the way I was and your body just compacts itself on top of your head, it's never good. I saw MY LIFE flash before my eyes. I SAW INSIDE MYSELF!!! I saw my spine bending when I closed my eyes on impact and it was one of the most surreal experiences of my life.
I sat out for a while, but came back for the stretching session. I figured I wouldn't get dropped on my head again. I was correct, fortunately. However, it must be said that the jujigatame REALLY REALLY REALLY hurts when done right. The wajigatame too. Knee bar, not so much, but man those arm submissions hurt like hell. There was also this weird front chancery variation that Quack gave me that was just excruciating.
So I'm off for two weeks. My neck still has full mobility, though I'm sure in the morning it'll be a different story. It's making a strange clicking sound when I turn it... hmm. Maybe I should see the doctor before my insurance runs out next week.
Wrestling is awesome though.
