Oh. My. God. Hands down top to bottom the best UFC card I've ever seen. Here are my thoughts in reverse order:
Chuck Liddell def. Randy Couture by KO (Punch) 1st rd.
Chuck proved me wrong and did exactly what he said he was going to do. There's absolutely no shame in getting knocked out by Chuck Lidell and while it was a short fight, it was still fun to watch. Here's hoping Couture makes a big come back and reclaims the belt.
Renato Babalau Sobral def. Travis Wiuff by Submission (Armbar) 2nd rd.
Pretty fun fight. Babalau may not be the best fighter in the world, but I really love watching him fight because he seems to be one of the last true links to Gracie jui-jitsu that's actually successful. Either way this is worth watching as Babalau is just amazing on the mat and the post fight interview is priceless.
Matt Hughes def Frank Trigg by Submission (Rear Naked Choke) 1st rd.
FIGHT OF THE NIGHT. Frank Trigg got under Hughes' skin and what'd he get? He got chocked the f*ck out AGAIN. Early in the fight Trigg kneed Hughes straight in the groin and the ref didn't see it. Hughes ended up collasping to the mat and Trigg rained down punches and literally had Matt in a choke...that is until Matt literally picked Trigg up, CARRIED HIM ACROSS THE ENTIRE OCTAGON, slamed his ass down, and chocked him out. MUST SEE.
Matt Lindland def. Travis Lutter by Submission (Front Choke) 2nd rd.
I was really pulling for Lindland and Im' glad he won. Pretty even fight, maybe even moreson on Lutter's side until Lindland did something nobody ever thought he'd do and chocked out a Brazillain Jui Jitsu black belt. Hopefuly Lindland gets a title shot in the near future and brings some gold back to Oregon. Big ups to all my homes in Milwaukie haha.
Georges St.Pierre def. Jason "Mayhem" Miller by Decision
Before I even get to the fight let me explain Mayhem's entrance in detail. Cue the rap music, then here he comes out wearing a Dr. Doom mask and waving a wad of cash in each hand...until he tosses it up and throws the money into the crowd. Off comes the mask and what's he got? A platinum mouth guard. St. Pierre is a freaking beast and completely dominated Miller the entire time. I'll give Miller a couple things and not only is he a tough SOB, this guy got out of more submissions than I'd ever see. I'll go out on a limb and say this guy may be physically impossible to submit. His other nickname is "anaconda." Really fun fight.
Ivan Salaverry def. Joe Riggs by Submission (Triangle Choke) 1st rd.
Not much to say here. Riggs got a big face full of Salaverry's heel when trying to punch him while Salaverry was on his back, then fell into Salaverry and got chocked out. Good fight until Riggs messed up.
Joe Doerksen def. Patrick Cote by Submission (Rear Naked Choke) 3rd rd.
Cote really tried, but Doerksen was obviously the better fighter. Doerksen dominated the first two rounds, but seemed to run out of gas and Cote really beat the crap out of him the third round until he made a mistake and got chocked out. Fun fight worth watching.
